Stockbridge Gas Company Inc.

They refunded me the wrong amount.Back in November 2013 my husband and I purchased a duplex in the village of Housatonic, MA.Around a week after the closing we received a bill from Stockbridge Gas Company that belonged to the past owner. I called them to try and solve the problem and tried to help them get paid by providing all info I had about the previous owner's lawyer.At the end of February/March of this year I started a contract with a new tenant so I told them to contact Stockbridge gas to change the billing name as the propane is not included in the rental lease but when they did, Stockbridge Gas treated my tenant very rudely saying I owed them money. I called them immediately to find out what had happened since the apartment had been empty since I bought the house but they told me they had filled both my propane tanks (without me ever asking them to do so) in January and that they were owed that money. I was even told by them that if my tenants didn't pay (and although the account was to be in their name and not mine) that I would be held responsible for their debt. (Is this even legal??) In the interest of avoiding more problems with them I paid them for two 25 gallon tank fills (about $90.00 each)A few weeks later I had to call the fire department twice as both tanks started to leak out propane profusely which was very scary for us and our tenants and a fire hazard. We as home owners and the fire department made several attempts to contact them to help us fix the leakage but no one returned our calls until late that evening.The next morning they asked them to please come to my property and take their tanks away from my property and I was informed they would do so and that I would receive a full refund for the propane that had been filled. When I received the refund check it was for an amount that corresponds to about ¼ of the price that I had paid (around $42.00) but they told me they had refunded me for what they pay for the propane and not for what they had previously sold it to me for (again is this legal??) I never signed an agreement to agree to any of this as I inherited their tanks!!Since the beginning we have been treated very poorly and discriminated against for the fact that they had problems with the previous owner which has NOTHING to do with us.
