Stone Magic Corp Reviews (1)

Review: Stone Magic was contracted to remove flooring and install new tile.Facts:1. Asked if contractor had experience installing tiles that look like wood. Clearly indicated we wanted installation to look like real wood and for grout lines to not be readily noticeable. Contractor showed photo of installation where grout lines were barely noticeable. Based on this, we scheduled installation.2. Contractor asked me to selectr grout color. I selected a dark brown. Contractor advised against this, indicating grout lines would show and that it is recommended I select a color closer to the actual color of the tile. He proposed two color options. I again made it clear that I didn't want the grout lines to be noticeable. He indicated he understand and again urged me to pick a color close to the color of the tile and suggest two color options. I picked the darker of the two options and purchased it at store he indicated.3. After tile installation was complete, I again told him I was concerned about color and requested to see a sample on the actual floor. He grouted a few tiles and told me it would be slightly lighter when dry, but not much. He rushed me to approve as he wanted to grout that day. I approved the color, based on how it looked wet - it matched the color sample he had provided.4. When grout dried it became much ligher, not even close to the color sample. I don't know if he put too much water or what happened, but it is exactly what I told him I didn't want - very light grout lines next to dark wood color tiles. 5. I asked him to correct by acid washing or staining grout or any way he thinks would fix this and he refuses to correct the color of the grout.6. Some tiles that he damaged were covered with grout. Bathroom wall and back door damaged. he moved Gas range back, but it is not working.7. Additionally, he asked for a cash deposit on first day of work for $1,500. I gave this to him and got no receipt. Now he wants to sue me and contends I never gave him any deposit.Desired Settlement: I asked contractor to fix the problem and he refuses.I want to hire another contractor to fix the problem and deduct that from the amount I owe him.I want Contractor to accept payment of final balance due, minus cost of repairs.Agreed contracted price for the job was $3,600.I paid him $1,500 on July **th in cash, no receipt.Balance due to contractor is $2,100 minus the cost for me to have the grout color corrected, gas range proprerly connected, bathroom wall fixed and back door fixed.
