Member: [redacted] Response: Mr. [redacted] was seen in this office on September 10, 2015 and September 24, 2015. Mr. [redacted]'s insurance benefits allowed his care to be covered at 100% with no copay required by him. It was explained to him prior to leaving the appointment on September 10th that his subsequent appointment which he scheduled for September 24, 2015 would require his payment of the deductible, although the remaining copay would be waived. He scheduled and arrived for his appointment. He did not make any payment of his copay on September 24, 2015 or anytime after. He received numerous statements that reflected the amount due was $50.00. The insurance benefits for September 24, 2015 were received on December 31, 2015. Statements were mailed on December 31, 2015, February 1, 2016, March 4, 2016, May 3, 2016, June 1, 2016, July 1, 2016 and August 1, 2016. The account was submitted to [redacted] for collection on August 10, 2016. Mr. [redacted] contacted the office Wednesday, August 31, 2016 stating he didn't take the statements serious until he was contacted by [redacted]. As he states in his complaint he thought he would not owe anything. It was explained to Mr. [redacted] that patient's are responsible for the deductible. He said if the deductible was not waived then he would contact "the Revdex.com". Mr. [redacted] made payment in person in the amount of $50.00 via credit card. [redacted] was contacted the same day and Mr. [redacted] can expect that collection efforts have ceased. To my knowledge, no reporting has been made to any credit bureau. It is the policy of the office to attempt collecting the patient's deductible at the time of service, which in this case, would have been on September 24, 2015. If the patient did not pay, for whatever reason, a statement would be sent. When payment is collected prior to the patient's appointment, this can create a lack of trust between the patient and office. In this office, collecting prior to the patient's appointment happens when the patient states he/she would like pay prior to being seen. Sent on: 9/19/2016 1:07:07 PM

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
This is very argument that I have complained. I work in health insurance company and very well understands how the deductibles work. You can very well cross verify my profile to understand my knowledge on plans and benefits. I still stand with what I said, I decided to go with my second appointment thought it was out of network because I was promised I will not have to pay anything not even the $50 deductible copay which they promised they will waive it off for taking the treatment. Now, they don't want to honor the promise after taking the treatment. I very well remember what they said and still stick with my complaint though I made the requested payment. Stony brook dental just believes in making money by hook or crook and if that doesn't work then by threatening them through rude collection agency who doesn't even think twice before calling at my home number and threatening my family members for meager $50.
Regards,
