Stouder Improvements Reviews (3)

I met with both homeowners twice the first week to discuss possibilitiesof installing a 220volt electric fireplace insert I told them that it would be difficult because of mounting it into a "front"makeshift existing mantle and brick that was attached to the wallI told them it was
hard to bid but would do it for $800.00- $and I would cover materialWe agreed and was to start the following weekUnfortunately I came down with the flu but, called them daily to give an updateI had to hire a helper to get the new circuit run to the basement and across the house to the breaker boxAfter the framing was done and I set the insert and hooked the unit up both homeowners were very happyThey used it that night and were still very contentThe next day I installed the tile they foundIt was tile that was unfamiliar to me,(it is supposed to be installed upside-down)I installed it wrong, told them and told them I would take care of at my expenseThis was dec 22,The only place that had any was in shawnee,ks ----the home is in independence, mothe homeowner could not pick it up and started "freaking out"I told them that I would get it to get the job finishedThe next morning, at 6:am I sent my wife to kansas to pick up the tile, 4sq ft, and bring it to me in independence.I arrived to the job and *** was upset and wanted to know why I was charging so muchI tried to explain that the mistake was mine and I was not going over the original bid--I would take care of replacing the tile immediatelyShe was still upset and I told her that I would replace it now, or if she wished, could get someone else-----they wanted to wait until after the holidays and I needed to get this done because of other work lined upShe proceeded to contact her husband and they decided to "hold off"So it was decided by the home owners that I load my tools and leaveI never "walked off"the job, I was there totally prepared to remedy my mistake in a professional mannerThe next day I was notified of the complaint and called ***She told me that she would "get to the bottom"of it and have her husband remove itwell, that didn't happenI tried to call several times to see if she wanted me to fix the tile, as per her desired settlement on the complaint-----no return callThis is why I waited to answer this complaintthe tile consisted of less than 7sq ft ---no big dealThe part that shocks me the most is I NEVER received a dime for what I had doneThe bottom line is I am out money----not them---for material and laborI don't understand why they would complain after getting so much for nothingThanks for your time and I hope this will help to remove this complaint from my record which I am proud of

again, I did not "walk off of the job"., I was asked to stopI was there on 12/23/totally prepared to remedy the tile install---otherwise why would I have sent my wife to kansas to pick up the sheets of tile at 6:am for meI agree they paid for the tile but it was coming OFF the top of the bidIt was not going to cost them a dime more over the bidSO, where is the gouging coming from? I never harassed them but, called several times to get this situation remedied I could not get a return call from them, so how was I supposed to remedy the problem? I did everything I couldAs for any money changing hands-----NOT!! At this point I would like to see proof of harassing phone calls, receipts, cancelled checks, or anything else that shows myself in the wrongI have spoken with my attorney- because of social media, etc and are looking into "defamation of character" The "he said--she said"can go on forever and my tolerance is wearing thinThanks for your time----*** Stouder----Stouder Improvements

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
I really don't know where to begin with the lies that were stated in [redacted]'s previous email. [redacted] did state when he first came to bid out the job on 12-5-15 that it would be a challenge to install the fireplace in the current mantel, but that he was willing to take on that challenge. He did say that he would cover all materials yet we paid for most of the materials except wire, 2 2x4, and backer board which we estimated the total cost at around $100.00. Also where he states that he came down with the flu is a total farce. He came to break out the brick and put a piece of 2x4 under the fireplace unit to hold it up on 12-12-15, a total of 3 hours were spent at our home on that Saturday. He stated when he left that he would be back either Monday or Tuesday. Monday at 4:56 we received a call that he would be out in the morning to get some more work done on this project. Tuesday 12-15-15 [redacted] showed up at 8:00 a.m and stayed another 4  hours to frame in the fireplace, cut the holes in the basement, and try and run the wire which he was unable to accomplish; stating that he would need to come back tomorrow which would of been 12-16-15. On the 16th we heard nothing from [redacted] and on 12-17-15 we received a call at 7:30 am stating he was sick and going to the hospital. We received another call on 12-18-15 that he and his wife were now sick and that he would not be coming to do any work on that day either. The next day we saw [redacted] was 12-21-15 when he brought over an electrician to run the wire and install the thermostat, which came with the unit and yet another 4 hours were spent at our residence on that day. On 12-22-15 he came to our home at around 8:30 am stating that he would like to start on installing the backerboard and the tile that we had purchased. at 1:23 I received a call from [redacted] stating that we might not want to go with a snow white grout with this brown tile because it would show to many imperfections. I stated that the tile was supposed to be blue and white not brown and he insisted that we look at the tile when I arrived home from work and that he was pleased how the tile work came out. When I arrived home I noticed that he had glued the paper backing to the tile to the wall, completely ruining 7 sheets of tile that we had purchased. He had called around 3 that afternoon stating that he had called [redacted] and Tile and talked to one of the salesman there about never knowing or working with tile that was supposed to be installed in that manner. He stated that he would be over in the morning to rip out the tile if we wanted him to do so again telling me that he liked the way the tile looked and that he really did not want to have to rip it all out. I told him at that time I wanted to wait for my wife to return home to give him a definite answer on whether we wanted him to rip out all the tile and start over, even though I knew I wasn't satisfied with the way it looked I wanted to give my wife the final decision. in the meantime I decided to go back to the Tile Shop where I had bought the first 10 sheets of tile to ask if they had anymore tile that they could get knowing that 3 days prior I had bought them out completely. The salesman stated that they had the tile in the Shawnee Mission location and I purchased 5 more sheets of that tile and a delivery fee of 10 dollars to bring from the Shawnee store to the Independence location. After I left I called [redacted] and stated that there was no reason for him to return until 12-24-15 stating that they had to ship in the tile. [redacted] stated that was not good enough and that he needed to get this job finished. he asked if I could drive out there at 5pm and pick up the tile and I told him I could not that I needed to get my kids fed and settled in for the night. I could tell this irritated [redacted] and he asked very rudely for me to get him the information so he could go pick up the tile himself. At around 6:30 I received another call from [redacted] stating how much we paid for the tile and that he would of never spent that much on the tile. My wife and I wanted to be pleased with what we purchased and were willing to spend a little bit more on something we would be pleased with in the end. He also stated that he was going to go pick up the tile from the Shawnee Store the next morning so he could finish the job, and asked if we could have $500 waiting on him that morning to cover his costs that he had already accumulated which we were happy to do even though the job was far from what we wanted. That night my wife and I spent around another hour accumulating all the cost that [redacted] had incurred  around $100 , which was pretty easy as he had left all the product in our garage so we were able to price exactly what he purchased for this job. As we sat there and totaled up all the costs we noticed we were being gauged on the price but we were willing to still pay him the price he quoted minus the tile we purchased which [redacted] stated he would give us a hundred dollar credit towards the purchase of the first set of tile. Which now brought our total from $1000 to $900. Now after he screwed up the first set of tile and we had to purchase more we did not think that was our responsibility to be stuck with paying for that as well so when he arrived the next morning my wife wanted to sit down with him and go over the costs and how he was getting to his figure of $900 and to see if he was willing to cut us a break on the second set of tile that we had purchased and the labor costs to rip out the improperly placed tile and to correctly place the tile. My wife and I figured that since the tile was another $52 that we should owe him $847 again that we were willing to pay. He stated that he was not going to credit us anymore from the $900. At that time we could not come to a mutual understanding he stated pay me the $500 for the work I have completed this far, wich we did in cash and he picked up his tools and left. He told my wife he would send her an email with a receipt because he did not bring his receipt book with him that day and she provided him with her email address. [redacted] never followed through with sending the receipt via email, which is why I gather he is now stating he never received a dime, which is a complete lie. Before reading that he did not receive a dime in his previous response he had never mentioned this as a concern during all of his many phone calls and voicemails; his only concern has been us taking down the complaint. It's odd to me someone that supposedly didn't get paid would never mention that to us the homeowner. After we filed this complaint with the Revdex.com he continued to call and harass us stating that he did not walk off this job which he most certainly did. On 12-30-15 at 5:33 pm we received a voicemail from [redacted] stating that he would like us to return his call and that he was upset over our review with the Revdex.com and that it was untrue and we needed to take the review down. At the end of the message after he thought he had hung up he stated in his own words " WOW! I controlled myself I cant believe it" at that time we decided to cut all ties with Stouder Improvements and to voice our concerns through our customer review. At this time we would like [redacted] to quit calling and harassing us, and to look in the mirror and to start telling exactly what happened as we have kept our records in tact from bank statements, receipts, time spent on the job, call logs, and voicemails that are continuing to be left. We would like the next person who hires Stouder Improvements to get an exact representation on how [redacted] does business.
Regards,
[redacted]
