Review: I was quoted a price for a repair and it came back costing me $1,400 more and then the repair didn't even work!

I received a quote from Street Fleet to build a new engine for my truck. The quote was a significant amount of money and I agreed to let them fix it because it looked like they had covered everything on their quote. Once they were done with the rebuild, it was $1,400 more than they said it was going to be! Upon driving my vehicle from their facility to my office, the vehicle started to smoke. I immediately called them to tell them what was going on and they said it was normal. On the next day, it was really smoking and the vehicle couldn't drive faster than 40 miles per hour. When I called them, they said that the smoke was still normal but to bring it back to them. The vehicle broke down on the highway and had to be towed to them. They charged me for the towing, and then another 1,600 to fix the vehicle claiming it was "something" unrelated to the original repair. But if you pay to have your engine rebuilt, they should have the engine running and everything working before giving it back to us. I was held hostage because they had my truck and I needed it for work and they wouldn't give it back to me without paying the $1,600. I said I thought this was totally unfair and that they should be paying for the tow and the additional repairs as they didn't fix the repair the first time correctly. The manager or owner proceeded to argue with me and tell me I had to pay it or else I couldn't have my truck. Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded the money for the additional repairs after it broke down. The $1,636.75 that I had to pay after they claim they had rebuilt my engine and I was all set. I shouldn't have to pay for the tow or the additional money they are charging me to fix the engine when it was less than 24 hours and I was calling them to tell them we had problems.

[redacted] Edge had there truck @ another shop. They called us to quote the job without seeing the truck based on the complaints they gave us. We informed them that this was just an estimate and the pricing could change based on what we found with the truck. Our final [redacted] was 1150.35 over the blind estimate They approved the estimated repairs & we had the truck towed. Which was not in the estimate this was an additional $200.00

We tore the engine down sent the cylinder head to the machine shop to be checked. Machine shop found damage to 5 of the 12 valves. 5 were replaced and the rest were ground & installed w/ new valve seats & guides This damage could only be diagnosed by the machine shop The machine shop [redacted] was an additional $350.00 Both parties @ [redacted] Edge were told of the additional parts that were needed for the head and block. These parts added up to $296.09.We also changed the air filter had to recharge the ac and fixed a tail light that was out which added $235.58 Additional tax was 68.68.

Our service manager inspected all parts coming from the machine shop prior to installation. He also inspected all companents of the engine prior to installing the new parts including the turbo.

He found the turbo to have no play and all fins intack and proceeded with the install. Re installing the old turbo is a common practice and is not part of on inchassis rebuild. The turbo is not part of an engine repair it is a totally seperate entity that intails addititonal labor time and part.

When the truck was finished it was road tested roughly 20 miles and was running in our yard for over 3 hours to check for leaks or any other issues. No leaks were found and the customer was called to pick up truck. [redacted] Edge came the next day to pick the truck up. They were told and it is noted on the [redacted] to have the oil changed within a 1000 miles to keep guarantee They called the same day an hour or so after picking it up stating the the truck was smoking from the "blow by tube" which is normal for this repair.

Monday around 3:30pm we received a call from [redacted] Edge stating the truck had no power, smoking from the tail pipe and leaking oil. [redacted] Edge was on the highway in MA they decided to have the truck towed back to Street Fleet at this point.

First thing Tuesday morning we inspected the truck found the turbo had blown the oil seal and damaged the fins. This is what causes the smoke leaking oil and lack of power. The inchassis repairs that we made we working perfectly. Nothing was wrong with any work that we completed.

We called [redacted] Edge explained to them what had failed and quoted them the repair price Customer did not understand that the repairs that we made and the breakdown had nothing to do with each other. Customers logic would be compared to rebuilding the engine and the truck having a blown tire and blaming on engine rebuild. Customer was exremely upset and completly unprofessional screaming and using inapproperiate language. The service manager kept explaining that one had nothing to do with the other but customer would not accept this as the truth. [redacted] Edge can call any service facility and check to see if a turbo repair is included in an inchassis rebuild or not. It is not, it is not even included when you purchase a new long block engine. In an attempt to keep the customer happy we agreed to sell the part and tow at cost and install the part for free. Ww supplied them with copies of the parts [redacted] and tow [redacted] to prove that no mark up was made. We did have to change the oil so we did charge for that. We did not want contaminated and or metal from turbo in the oil running through a newly rebuilt engine. Customer wanted us to reuse the old oil.

We believe whole heartly that we did nothing wrong and went above and beyond to accomodate this customer. It obviously it did not work One of the customers even stated that we were "more than fair".We all find this action very distrubing and feel that we are being presicuted by a customer that does not understand the repair that was made. We pride ourselves on our work and being fair to our customers and feel this is an unjust response. Street Fleet did not do anything wrong and [redacted] not be offering any type of compensation to [redacted] Edge
