Street To Sand Offroad Reviews (1)

Street to Sand recommended an after market part for my vehicle (Boost Control Solenoid) which I then purchased. After receiving the part I had confidence in this company to install this item on my vehicle. After the installation the employee seemed confused on finding the proper map to download into my cars Computer. The map allows my vehicle to function properly with the new part. I waited approximately 30 minutes while he searched the internet. He discovered that there wasn't a map available but that the car now needed to be placed on a dyno for proper tuning to accommodate the part (Approximately $400 for a custom tune that they cannot do at their shop). I told him that this information would have been helpful before I purchased the part. He told me that it will not hurt the car if driven as is and he recommended a place in California to get the dyno. A couple weeks went by and I called a California Pro shop. They told me that I should not drive my car because without the dyno the stock turbo will spool up to 30psi and could be damaged. I drove to street to sand to talk to the owner who was the one that recommended the part in the first place. I told him the situation and asked for his company to switch the part out with the original part and refund my money since it was completely his fault and due to his lack of knowledge. He said he couldn't do either and I argued my case. He left the front desk for 10 minutes and went into the back offices. He finally returned and said he could swap the parts for no charge but will not refund my money. I reminded him that he was the person that recommended that I purchase the Boost Controller and that I believe as the customer I should be refunded 100% . He ultimately refused to refund my money so I left his business.Product_Or_Service: Cobb boost controllerDesired SettlementThey charged me for one hour of labor which I believe was $90.Business Response True, we did install a boost controller into his vehicle on 10/09/2014. He supplied the boost controller, he did not purchase it from my shop. When we installed the controller, there was no tuning map available for download from the manufacture so we did call the manufacture on his behalf. We were instructed that he could drive the vehicle but he would not get full potential of the product until he got a custom dyno tune. Which we could not do because we are not a dealer for this product. Upon his second visit approx 60 days later, he demanded we refund him the 1 hour labor for installing the boost controller. I do not understand why after approx 60 days he has an issue. When he came back to our shop, he was not respectful, he was not polite to any of my employees. He made a few rude comments about my shop and Reno in general. I did offer to reinstall the original part at no charge in which he refused. I did go back into the shop to talk to the technician who originally installed the boost controller. I was away from the counter for 2 minutes and 2 seconds, not 10 minutes. I checked the video surveillance on this. I would have had no issues refunding him the original $105.00, not $90.00, for the hour install if he would have been polite and professional when he came back into my shop. But he immediately had a bad attitude and was disrespectful to me and my employees. As a small business I took a chance installing a product that was not purchased from me, and I am the bad guy I guess. Also it is company policy that labor is not refundable, and any refunds given must be within 30 days and are given as a in store credit. I do have large RETURN POLICY signs around the counter. Also, I did not recommend this boost controller to him, as this was my first encounter with him. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)This company has worked on my vehicle 3 times so this is not the owners first encounter with me. The response about my attitude is false and not once did I raise my voice However, I did speak my mind in a calm matter. I treated the staff with respect and they were polite and knowledgable when I spoke to them. The owner needs to learn to take criticism because he was in the wrong and I told him that clearly. The boost controller was recommended by the owner of the shop and yes I purchased it from [redacted] but only after confirming with street to sand which specific one to purchase because they were NO help in this department (assisting me with ordering parts). This shop has installed a total of three items onto my vehicle and every part was recommended by the owner himself. Not once did street to sand offer to order these parts for me which would've saved me time. I went home and searched for parts myself on various websites. After I found the parts that were recommended by street to sand I drove back to their shop and showed the owner the item by using my cellphone. Yes, I reconfirmed with the owner before I went back home and ordered it myself. I'm NEW at this process and have never had any of my vehicles modified whatsoever. The two other times that street to sand worked on my car I had no complaints. Those two visits were pleasant experiences and I felt the work was completed 100%. This time I left street to sand feeling like the work was half done. Now they expect me to bring my vehicle to California to complete what they could not finish. What company does this? Once again, I would've NEVER purchased this part if I knew that street to sand could not completely install it properly. After recommending a part for someone's car I would imagine that you have had experience enough to tell me that a dyno is something I would've needed. I would have respectfully declined and got the part another time when the time was right for me, the customer. The Owner himself recommended the part, it's not like I walked in blind and put it on the counter and said install it. The owner should've swapped the part out AND refunded the money and all would have been complete. That's the right thing to do but he couldn't hand over a measly $105 when he made the mistake. Final Consumer Response I have not received my refund from Street to Sand. It was stated in the last response from Street to Sand that they will refund my money for the labor they charged me. It can be placed back on my credit card or a check sent to my place of residence. Street to Sand should have both on file. Thank YouFinal Business Response Sorry. We do not keep credit cards or address's on file for safety reasons. Also. That transaction is from 2014 and I have closed that file for tax season. I will try to call my merchant service and refund the transaction. Thank you.
