Stringfield's Auto Electric Reviews (3)

I am rejecting this response because:The air suspension the person mentioned in their reply was installed in the vehicle in 2003.It has not and does not cause any electrical trouble with my vehicle. If Springfield thought it was a problem why wasn't that mentioned in their paperwork or before they charge the amount if money they did. They created faulty work. The vehicle was brought to them to solve a fog light problem.Hundreds of dollars later I approved for them to replace both fog lights and install an alternator.Their, ability not to return my calls the day after the incident just proves what the of poor business they really are.

The individual making the complaint has a 1997 Chevy pickup with air bags. Whoever did the air ride suspension unprofessionally installed all the wiring and electronics, exposed wiring on the frame rail and exhaust. This is the customers original complaint for bringing in the vehicle to us. This air...

ride suspension is what caused the battery damage and smoke. At no point was the air ride suspension or battery install done at this establishment. The complaint clearly states he purchased the battery and installed it himself. I do not feel responsible for this person's incompetence and lack of knowledge for automotive repair, nor the allegations to this establishment. If this customer purchased the battery and installed it himself and was the last to touch the vehicle, clearly he is responsible for stripping the side terminal bolt to the battery and installing it incorrectly. At no point is Stringfield's responsible for these damages. Thank you Mike Lewis

Review: Vehicle:

1997 Chev Silvardo Pick-up truck

Vin # xxxxxxxxxxxxx[redacted] HISTORY

About a month ago my truck develop an electrical problem. I got home and turn my truck off and there was smoke under the hood.

The cable leading to the battery was extremely hot. I let the truck sit overnight and the next morning I investigate what had happen. I notice

some wires that were tapped had burned through the tape and was shorting out on the steel vehicle frame. It had got so hot that it melted the

battery side post of the battery and cause a hole in the side of the battery.

I then drove my car to Stringfield Auto Repair, which had done an electrical repair on my truck a month prior. I had them install a set of fog lamps

in my front bumper to replace the ones that Stringfield said was faulty.

JUNE 3 2014

I replaced the burnt battery with a $235.00 OPTIMA Battery and register the battery warranty online.

However knowing I still had an electrical problem I did not drive or start the truck. I was waiting till my next payday to put the truck in the shop for repairs.

THURSDAY JUNE 19, 2014

I took my truck to Stringfield Auto Repair in the 9 AM hour, and left the truck and took the bus back home.

When I left the truck I had a discussion with the technician [redacted]. He said he would clean up all the wiring issues with truck. I told him the owner [redacted] suggested that I have a fuse installed on the battery line to prevent damage to another battery. [redacted] agreed and I left the vehicle.

About mid day, [redacted] the technician called and said my alternator was bad. He said it was not working and need to be replaced. I agreed on the phone to have the alternator replaced.

Close to 5PM I was called by [redacted] the technician that my truck was ready to be picked up.

I had my out of town guest drive me to Stringfield Auto Repair to pick up my truck.

My friends followed me home where I parked the truck and rode with them for the evening.

FRIDAY June 20, 2014

I left for the bay are all day. I did not leave Oakland until after 5 PM, so my truck was not operated or started since I brought it home from the shop on Thursday.

SATURDAY June 21, 2014

About 10 AM I drove the truck to a coin operated car wash. I was there for about an hour.

Afterward I drove down the street to a Starbucks for coffee. When I turned off the truck there was smoke under the hood.

I lifted the hood and the smoke was coming from my new battery area.

I called Stringfield Auto Repair and got their business voice mail.

I left a very detailed message explaining that I was stranded and it was the same electrical problem

I then call AAA for a possible tow.

45 min later the AAA tow truck came.

The tow truck driver was very knowledgeable and found the source of the problem.

This is what the tow truck driver pointed out to me as the cause:

The side post screw was damaged in the very first problem and should have been replaced because some of the threads on the screw were melted.

Stringfield had use that faulty screw that could not screw into the battery side post properly. Stringfield Auto attached an elastic band to the side post screw to keep the screw in.

The vibration of the vehicle cause the screw to move around and arch and heat as I drove.

To prove his point the tow truck driver held the worn screw with his hand ..up to the side post connections and had me start the vehicle.

He then pointed out how that the loose connected created the whole problem.

The [redacted] tow truck driver said the solution was this:

Splice the wires leading to the side post and attach them to the top post of the battery and do not use the screw in side post since this battery has both options.

I drove the truck home and let it sit '

MONDAY June 23, 2014

I called Stringfield Auto repair in the 9:00 AM hour.

I spoke with the owner [redacted] and I was sure he had heard the message I left on Saturday.

I asked if the technician [redacted] was in and he said not yet. I told him I would call back later.

About 11:00AM and the owner [redacted] said that technician [redacted] was having child care issues.

I told [redacted] I would call back tomorrow.
