Strongwood Log Home Company, Inc Reviews (2)

Review: I am experiencing major problems with my 21/2 year old Strongwood home. The sealing of the joints and seams are inconsistent throughout. You can literally see daylight through the walls. The curtains in the house literally move when it is windy outside. When I contacted the company on January 15 the expressed concern and a willingness to "make it right" once the weather improved. Since then I have received one response to a follow up email to schedule a visit to the house. Since then, I have not heard back from anyone and my follow up emails have gone unanswered. I have been dealing directly with the president, [redacted].Desired Settlement: Follow up to the commitment to inspect and repair this defect as stated in the email below...

Jeff

I am very concerned for you and the problems you are having with your house. I would like to have the opportunity to send my Strongwood Construction crew down to address the issues and try to resolve them for you. It will have to wait until March/April or until the 24 hour temp is at least 35*. Would that be acceptable to you?

Sincerely

Business

Thank you -

I approached Strongwood after dealing with several other log home companies. They provided an initial estimate in the 350-375 range. I've built several other homes and understand that the number will go up as we start adding features so it was a good starting place. I paid $500 for elevation plans to begin the process. We got everything settled except for interior details like cabinets, fireplace stone or light fixtures. When I asked what the bid was shaping up to be so I could decide where to trim costs if necessary, they never responded. I called the sales rep several times. He never responded to voicemails and when I did manage to catch him on the phone, he would only say they were looking at different options for me. They sent a couple of other questions about cutting features but without knowing what it would cost me overall, I didn't want to randomly cheap out on the windows if doing my own flooring would give me a higher discount, for instance.
In the end, I think they low-balled me into the initial quote to get the business then when they found out what it would actually cost, tried to nickel and dime me back down to get closer. Even when I asked if it came in over or under 400 - my target price - I got no response. This is a poor way to do business. I ended spending several months and $500 for a set of useless elevation plans and had to start over with another builder.
