Our piano movers did have the correct equipment with them to move a small console piano out of the residence and down steps. This is what was on the bill of lading and what they were prepared to do. Mrs. [redacted] wanted to tell the piano movers how to do their job and what door they should use. Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], the company has not fully disclosed everything. The worker that states that she contacted me, only works part-time, and I left numerous messages trying to get an understanding of why the check was not received.  My messages were not returned, and of course there was another excuse as to why they did not return them.   It was not until they received the complaint from Revdex.com that they notified me and said that the check magically appeared at their office.  I did confirm that the address was correct when I made the initial call to the organization.  Betty, informed me that she would contact the bank and post office that day.  I waited another week and did not hear from the organization and left multiple messages, again.  I made a final call, spoke with the extremely rude manager and was told that they would not send me a check and that I can do whatever I wanted to do.  I told Betty this when she finally called me (after she received the letter from Revdex.com) and she again gave me another sugarcoated answer about the disappearance of my check.  I did not trust the delivery methods of the organization, so I decided to pick up the check at 9:30 AM the following Monday.  And of course, Betty was not there.Thank you!

Dear Ms. [redacted]This letter is in response to complaint #[redacted] submitted on May 14,2016. Stumpf Moving & Storage received a signed Estimated Cost of Services form and a deposit for moving services in the amount of $99.80 from [redacted] on April 5, 2016. She was put on our...

schedule for a local move on April 27, 2016,On April 19, 2016, Ms. [redacted] called our office to cancel her move. A check for a refund of her deposit was made out to her in the amount of $99.80 on April 26,2016 and put in the mail at the end of the work day. The check was sent to the address we had on file for her. Over the next couple of weeks, Ms. [redacted] called several times asking where her check was. I did not know why she hadn’t received it. I checked with our bank and found it had not been cashed. My assumption was that it went to the wrong address. However, Ms. [redacted] did confirm the address I used was correct in one of our phone calls. I was still trying to figure out why she hadn't received it and hoped it would come back to us.On May 17, 2016, the check was indeed returned to us by the post office as undeliverable. I called her upon receiving the returned check and left a message. I did not hear back from her and called her again today, May 20, to again confirm the address before resending it. This time she did answer her phone and told me she preferred not to give me her address and said she would pick the check up on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 8:00am.You can imagine my surprise when I opened the Revdex.com complaint today! I have enclosed a copy of the check that was made out to [redacted] on April 26, 2016 as well as a copy of the envelope stamped April 27, 2016 with a return to sender label. Please consider this response as our position on handling the returned deposit in a timely manner. Sincerely,

John Stumpf and his crew recently moved our household from Pittsburgh to Friendsville MD.

Our boxes, furniture and workshop equipment were handled with care and professionalism. The moving crew was friendly and courteous. Great guys!!

Would highly recommend this company.

Thanks John.

Review: I reserved the moving company for services. I had to cancel due to the apartment falling through. I contacted Stumpf within the timeframe that was identified in the contract. The organization stated that they mailed my refund check to me on 4/26, which was a week after I made the initial cancellation. As of 5/14 I have not received my refund, they are avoiding my phone calls, and they have not showed me proof that anything was mailed off. I am seeking my $100.Desired Settlement: I am seeking my $100.

Review: Mr. [redacted] after seeing our belongings gave us an estimate of $1,084.85, based on four men and a truck. We accepted and gave him a deposit of $150. On the day of the move the crew chief, [redacted], gave us a statement for services actually performed in the amount of $1,067 60 which meant we were due a refund of $17.75 ($1,085.85 - $1,067.60) plus our $150 deposit. We subsequently received a bill in the mail claiming there had been a fifth man on the crew and that we still owed $74.51. After the movers were finished I told them I wanted to give each of them a $20 tip. Four men came forward and I did as I said I would. PROVING BEYOND DOUBT THAT THERE WAS NEVER WAS A FIFTH WORKER. Even if their claim is true, Mr [redacted] made his bid based on 4 workers, told us that he was familiar with the building we were moving into and had no authority to increase the size of his crew without discussing the matter with us. We have asked for a refund of $167.75 - the combination of our deposit and the final bill on the day of the move and Mr [redacted] has refused us.Desired Settlement: $167.75 as described above.

This letter is in response to complaint number [redacted] brought by [redacted]. [redacted].

[redacted] Moving & Storage moved Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] from [redacted] to [redacted] on July 17,2013. Five men were on the job from 7:30 am until 3:30 pm. Upon completion of the job, the crew chief presented the Bill of Lading to Mrs. [redacted] who paid for the move based on the charges given. When the crew returned to our warehouse, I noticed the crew chief had not written up the bill correctly. I immediately called Mrs. [redacted] to explain the bill of lading was incorrect and that I would send her an invoice that line itemized her charges and what she owed. It is written on our bill of ladings that charges are subject to audit. Mrs. [redacted] was charged at our 4 man rate for 7 hours and extra labor (the fifth man) 1 hour. The 4 men and the extra labor should have been billed at 7 1/2 hours each. We deduct 1/2 hour for lunch. The crew chief also forgot to deduct a deposit of $150 from the final charges. I am enclosing a copy of the original bill of lading and the revised invoice that was sent to Mrs. [redacted] that shows the actual charges for the move. With the corrections that were made, Mrs. [redacted] owes us $74.51.

At the time of the move, an upholstered chair was soiled. [redacted] Moving & Storage had the chair cleaned at no expense to the [redacted]’s. This was done as a good will gesture, at an expense to [redacted] Moving & Storage, since they did not purchase optional valuation which would have covered the cleaning costs. A copy of the Valuation Options Page that Mrs. [redacted] signed is enclosed.

The total bill after corrections were made and deposit deducted was $1,292.14. The estimated cost of services given to Mrs. [redacted] for her move was $1,084.85. This was a nonbinding estimate and she was told that final charges would be based on actual time

involved and materials purchased. An added expense not on her estimate was $21.00 for 2 wardrobe cartons.

Review: I had one of the most horrible experiences with a business ever with Stumpf. I am writing this review with all earnestness and concern for those who may consider using Stumpf Moving for either moving or storage services. If you have anything of monetary value or any items that hold personal or sentimental value, I implore you NOT to entrust them to Stumpf Moving and Storage. Stumpf moved our items into our new home on August 22, 2013. During the unloading process, some of the workers, who remembered the items from moving them in April, made notations on the household goods inventory that many of the items were damaged or destroyed. For instance, a mirrored dresser was cracked entirely down the front, a leather bench was ripped, a glass table top was scratched. They had built a crate for the glass table top when they originally moved it in April of 2012, but then when they screwed the crate together, the nails from the screws scratched the tabletop. Most disheartening is the damage that was done in storage to a large antique buffet that belonged to my great grandmother. They laid some sort of felt-like moving blanket on it and, since the storage must not have been climate control, the felt from the blanket completely adhered to the top of the buffet. I will have to find someone to refinish it. After the move, my contacted Stumpf to file our claim. We even had paid several hundred dollars for extra insurance because we greatly treasure our home valuables and many of them are irreplacable. We called Stumpf approximately three times a week for almost four weeks before hearing back from them. We would leave messages and they would tell us that the insurance forms were in the mail, but they would never come. Finally, a month after our move, we received a form to fill out. It does not appear that Stumpf even purchased the extra insurance that we paid for. Mind you, this is fraud. Secondly, we submitted our claims for our possessions and 10 days later we received a letter in the mail denying ALL claims and saying that our items were damaged prior to the move. While some of the items were not brand new and suffered from general wear and use, they were greatly damaged in the care of Stumpf. We are now pursuing legal action. I implore you not to use this company if you have any care for your valuables.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive the value for the items I paid to have insured during out move per the insurance policy we purchased with Stumpf.

Response:

Stumpf Moving & Storage moved Mrs. [redacted]'s household goods into storage on April 20 ,2013. At that time, a written inventory was prepared that included the condition of all items being stored at the time the inventory was prepared. Mrs. [redacted]'s household goods were moved from storage to her new home on August 22, 2013. On Sept. 3, 2013 Jeff [redacted] called our office and said there was damage to some of their household goods. A claim form was sent to the [redacted]’s on September 16, 2013 (3 weeks after move date, 13 days after the call)) for damages they were claiming to their household goods. We normally would have sent the claim form in a more timely manner but due to a family members redeployment from Afghanistan, the office employee who handles claims was out of the office for two weeks. Mrs. [redacted] was made aware of this circumstance when she later called our office and seemed to be understanding. She completed the claim form and returned it to our office. On September 24, 2013 (eight days after sending the claim form to Mrs. [redacted]) a letter was sent to her stating that Stumpf Moving & Storage did not take liability for the damages she was claiming. All five pieces of furniture that she claimed Stumpf Moving & Storage damaged were on the inventory as damaged when picked up for storage. The damage claimed matches damages described on the inventory. I am enclosing copies of the claim form as well as inventory pages that show the damages are the same. You will also see that Mrs. [redacted] made no note of felt on the surface of her buffet in her claim form. As an aside, Stumpf Moving & Storage uses professional moving blankets to cover furniture not felt.

Stumpf Moving & Storage does not sell insurance. The [redacted]’s purchased $50,000 in valuation with a $250 deductible for their move into storage.

It is always distressing when a customer is not happy with their move. However, Mrs. [redacted] did not have any complaints about our moving services. Again, she is claiming money for damaged furniture that was already damaged when picked up for storage.

The Stumpf Family has been providing the greater Pittsburgh area with professional moving services since 1936. We would not be in the moving & storage business for four generations if we did not handle each move and customer's household goods professionally, honestly and with the care we would use in moving our own belongings. We take liability for any damage we may cause on a move or while in our storage facility. We do not take liability for the damage to Mrs. [redacted]’s furniture because it came to us in the damaged condition she is claiming as shown on our inventory sheets.

Thank you for your attention to this matter,

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID[redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

After not responding to my repeated requests for the forms to file an insurance claim, I heard back from Stumpf nearly one month after the move. They sent me a small form to fill out with some preliminary information regarding the damage. I filled out the form to the best of my ability and wrote a note asking Stumpf to call me to discuss the damage because I had some questions about the form and was unsure how to fill out some of the questions. Stumpf Moving never called me. Instead, weeks later I received a letter stating that my insurance claim was denied-even though we purchased additional insurance. Stumpf is under a legal duty to honor our insurance claim and they did not do that. Stumpf never responded to my written request regarding filling out the "insurance form." Stumpf never telephoned me to discuss the damage to my furniture. Stumpf never came and looked at the damage to my furniture. The Bill of Lading indicates that furniture was damaged in the move. Stumpf Moving ignored this written evidence in perpetrating their fraud.

Review: Stumpf Movers were hired to relocate a piano from my residence to the buyer. During the move, the movers indicated that they did not have the proper dolly to move the piano out the rear door of my home - which was a level surface. They insisted on taking the piano out the front door, and attempted to slide it off a four weel device, dropping the piano and damaging the ceramic tiles on the front porch steps. I then contacted Mr.[redacted] and informed him of the damage. He claimed that his crew informed him that they did NOT drop the piano or damage the front steps. Mr. [redacted] basically it was their word against mine, and he believed them.Desired Settlement: Repair of damage or financial payment to repair tiles.
