Sturbridge Automotive Reviews (1)

In July 2012 I brought my car to [redacted] at Sturbridge Auto due to a non working AC. I paid $100 for a recharge. The AC worked for about 10 minutes. I called [redacted] when I returned home and was told it would be a more costly fix. I put the fix off until this year. I called [redacted] 5/15/13 to have him check my ac unit. He advised that he would look at it if I had it to him before 5PM. I took an 1 1/2 hours of PTO and brought my car 5/17/13 at 415PM and was told he didn't have time. I then brought my car 5/23/13. After 3 hours he stated my ac compressor "was fine" but my condenser was dented. He quoted $400. I brought car in 6/1/13 for the fix. I called after 3 hours and was told condenser was replaced but now compressor not working. I let [redacted] know I didn't want to spend too much on the ac. Since he was not at the shop we spoke via telephone. He quoted, as an absolute, $400 for the condenser repair and no more than $150 for a used compressor. With a witness to the conversation he agreed verbally, at least 10 times, he wouldn't charge more than the agreed upon $550 total. I paid the $400 Sat 6/1/13. He said he would call for the used part Mon 6/3, that it should be in by 6/5 and I would bring the car back 6/7. I stated that I did not have more than $550 to spend and that I would put the dented condenser back if it was more. He, again, agreed to $150 as an absolute quote. On 6/4/13 I received a phone call that he could not locate the used part. He stated that I would have to buy a new part starting at $525 not including tax. I told him I did not have that money and I would not have agreed to fix the condenser this year if the total cost was that high. He said he would continue to call around and get back to me. After several days I called 6/13/13. [redacted] advised that the cheapest part was at least $350 not including tax. I called another mechanic who stated the compressor could not have only worked the 2 hrs he had for diagnosis. [redacted] misrepresented all costs. This is bait & switch.Desired SettlementAfter finding out the cost of the addt'l repair I asked for the old condenser back and a refund. He threw the old part away. Looking for a refund on the $400 work as I advised I would not have completed if the compressor was more than $150. If original work cannot be refunded I want the equivalent of the additional costs for labor and parts I will incur with a new mechanic. I am requesting the addt'l labor coverage as I would not have to pay extra had [redacted] fixed both broken parts accordingly.
