It was all good until we drove off the lot... shocking right?!?

They sold us an 'as is' 2011 caravan without a keyfob. They denied me the request for a discounted keyfob upon purchase of said vehicle. The van came with two keys. One to start the van, one to unlock it. That should have been the red flag. It gets worse

We live in Toledo, the dealership is in Defiance(OH). After purchasing the van we drove it back to Toledo with no problem. Later that evening, we got locked out of the van because the set of keys given to us DID NOT unlock the door. By now it was getting dark, we had two of our children with us,we were stranded in a big lots parking lot. AAA had to be called to get the van unlocked. Not a very pleasant experience

So, while waiting in the parking lot for AAA, I called the dealership and was able to speak w one of the owners family members. I was assured the issue would be handled, and that someone would call first thing in the am, but they needed the vehicle at the dealership back in Defiance 45 min away from Toledo. Ok...

The next morning my wife was driving the van to work and the check engine light comes on. So, when I received the phone call I was waiting for(they actually did call first thing in the am) I let the guy([redacted]) know about the key, and now the check engine light. We bought the van on a Monday, and by Tuesday am I was already setting up an appointment to drive it back to the dealership with a check engine light on and a set of bogus keys.

At this point I have zero trust in these people and have Autozone diagnose the check engine light(new thermostat was needed) this also prompted me to look a little closer at the fine print. Turns out they got the van with the check engine light on, and assumably just reset the engine codes to shut the light off. Luckily I purchased a 2yr warranty right?? Wrong!

So, instead of giving me a keyfob and a new thermostat right away(proper customer service) I'm told I have a $250 deductible on the warranty and that my new thermostat would not be covered. They also refused to take care of the keyfob and would charge me basically full price.

Jumping ahead a bit... I was told the car needed to be held to replace the thermostat and they gave me a loaner to drive home. At this point, I contacted my lawyer and she advised me to have them stop all work until she could assess the situation. When I called the service dept and told [redacted] my stance, he got agitated and demanded I drive the loaner back immediately since I was refusing them to work on my van. Obviously life doesn't work like that and it was impossible for me to make that happen. He followed up with stating he would report the loaner stolen by 1pm that day... it was around 1145am when this was taking place. I'm typing this in disbelief honestly, but it all happened.

I was appalled that this is how they wanted to handle a situation they essentially created. It's still rather unbelievable. This is a certified Buick GMC dealership mind you.

Ok, back to the thermostat. This [redacted] guy, tried his hardest to explain to me that the check engine light was on due to some sensor that wasn't a big deal. Then I showed him the autozone diagnosis(BOOM). He then tried telling me the autozone diagnosis tool really isn't a diagnosis tool, really insulting my intelligence. So I sat in the waiting room for 4hrs just for them to tell me the thermostat did indeed needed to be replaced and it was at that time they gave me the loaner.

In the end, I paid $280 for a new thermostat and a proper keyfob. My lawyer was stuck and didn't really have any legal resolve for me. Which I guess is the reality of the situation.

Which brings me to Revdex.com. I am a 29yr old husband and father of 3. I work hard, this van was a present for my wife. It was supposed to be a great thing. A milestone I worked hard to achieve. These guys at Stykemain robbed us of that great new car buying experience, and much more. These guys are grade A jerks, straight up.

I write to you guys in hopes that others will see this and just be extra cautious at Stykemain... Or just avoid them altogether. I'm also hoping this reaches the owner so he can relive this embarrassing display of customer service.

Sincerely,

[redacted]
