Review: I was in a minor car accident. Police called a tow truck company. The owner of the tow truck also had an auto body repair shop. The owner said that they would waive the tow fee and deductible if I chose their shop to get the bumper and hood fixed. I chose to go to their shop. It has been a month now and I have not received my car. Both Styland and [redacted] said it would not be more than two weeks for my car to be repaired.Desired Settlement: I would like my bill to be cut in half for lost funds and time due to being without a vehicle for a month.

Response:

Review: My name is [redacted], living in [redacted] Oregon. My sister [redacted] and younger brother [redacted] and another brother with his wife came to USA last August or so to visit my mother who was in [redacted]. My mother passed away on September [redacted], 2014.

My sister and younger brother, [redacted] and [redacted], wanted to travel in the States and I said yes. They used my car BMW X5 of 2004, because I felt safe if they drove a car like that. And I loaned they many valuables like Macbook, Mini Pad, binoculars etc. for the trip. They drove from Boston to [redacted] thorough New York.

Here is what happened.

My sister wrote:

“Oct **, 2014, Friday, when we were to drive back from Boston to [redacted] Oregon, via Staten Island. All of sudden steam came out of car’s radiator. Because of language barrier we were very worry. We looked around and found a [redacted] girl and we got the opportunity and went up to her, with body language and gestures to ask her for help. He name is [redacted]. When she understood us she called her [redacted] friend and helped us to find a place to stay. She said it was very late now so she took us to a nearby hotel. At the hotel she saw a yellow towing truck across from the hotel. She went to see the driver and found out that this truck belong to a towing company and also this towing company has repair shop. The driver is [redacted]. He checked the car and through [redacted]’s [redacted] friend they told us he can tow the car right away and leave the car there to repair and left his card. We also have him to talk with my brother in [redacted] Oregon, [redacted]. After a while, we trusted him and had him the car key and only took necessaries and camera. Before we departed [redacted] called her friend again to relay the message that we can ask her for help. We were really moved that we met great people.

Next morning our brother [redacted] called us that shop could not repair that day because it was Saturday. The shop would not open until Monday. So we contacted [redacted] through brother in [redacted] and arranged to put something back into the car. We went to shop and [redacted] was there waiting for us. [redacted] open the door and we checked that everything is inside the car, nothing touched. We felt very lucky that we could trust the shop. [redacted] even showed his tattoo and told us he believe in Jesus and Mary, he said there are many good people In US and he would take us to the shop on Monday. He was taking us around trying to find a good hotel but the price was too high so we went back to the hotel. ”

My brother and I knew the problem was involved something around the radiator. 10/**/14, 3:54pm I had a talk with my brother that he suspected the problem was just something else like fan and sensor. So I called the shop but not body answered and I left message saying please check the fan (around 5:18pm).

10/**/14, the car was in shop.

10/**/14, Monday, I called the shop and was told the car needed to have radiator replaced and needed to order a radiator and we had to wait. Since they did not have much money and stayed in the hotel so they chose to go back to Boston. They left the valuables like computer, mini Ipad etc. in the car. In Boston actually their friend asked them if it was safe to leave those valuable in the car in the shop, my sister said no problem, they met great person and trusted him. She said “because we trusted him and the shop we leave those there, we were sure there would no problem: good people and good shop!”

10/**/14 8:07am I called and they said the part would’t be there until 3pm and I would call in a hour.

10/**/2014, Thursday, I called again and they said the car is still not repaired and needs to change some (other) parts.

10/**/14 8:42am I called and they said they changed the radiator but they found the reservoir is broken so they have to change the bottle too. I asked for the old radiator because I was quite sure the radiator is good so I needed the proof they did change a new radiator. They said they can’t give back the old radiator.

10/**/14, Halloween day, my wife called and the repair shop said they changed radiator, sensor and the overflow bottle and the car was ready to go. So at 1:39pm I told my sister that they can come back to NY from Boston to pick up the car on 11/*/2014, Monday before 5pm.

11/*/14 7:54am I left a message to my brother and asked him to take a look at the old radiator if we could not get it back, ‘couse I felt that the radiator was good.

Here is what my sister wrote after got to the shop:

“We asked to check the car before paying. A young man accepted us and asked to pay first to take a look at the car. We asked to use credit card but he said the credit card machine was broken and they want cash. Through my the interpretation of my brother, [redacted] in [redacted], we agreed that they took us to a bank and we spent $27 fee to have money order of $900. They gave us a small piece of paper as receipt (I ([redacted]) have the copy of the receipt, if I could file complaint by mail I can show here). But my brother insisted on wanting an itemized receipt ( I got the receipt and I have more to say about it later). (After paid the money, they gave us the key. When we got the key to the car we found the driver side door couldn’t open and we asked why. We have to open passage door to drive. When I opened back door I found everything was sacked and computer bag was gone. We called my bother in [redacted] again and asked them to explain.

1. Where are the valuables?

2. Why the car driver side door can’t be open?

3. Why they don’t give a decent receipt at the beginning.

All the workers there had very strange expression and laughed at us. What we read from their faces was: you foreigners want to argue here, don’t be kidding.

We used the smartphone’s interpreter to communicate and asked to speak to the boss and want to call police and check the video recording of the shop. And also my brother and sister in law in [redacted] asked us and also the shop to take back the old radiator. And the young man called his father ([redacted]). His father came about 8 pm and we repeated the claim again. He said he will check the video recording and gave us an explanation in three days.

We wanted to stay there to have all things solved but we were not local and we simply could not afford to stay there. So we had to leave there, because there was no other choice. ”

From my cell phone recording here is what happened:

My sister and brother arrived the Island after 4 pm and got the shop after 5pm.

At 8:09pm they found things lost.

At 8:14pm the boss ([redacted]) came.

At 8:27pm I had communication with my sister.

And the boss asked what kind of computer we lost.

At 7:29pm they found a hotel.

Then they found the binoculars and shaver missed. The binoculars’ case still there, apparently someone had plenty time to do so.

Then they found the usb charger at the rear was missing.

About the time we got the itemized receipt I directly asked the mechanic to give back the old radiator. He was very angry. He told me that he did not change the radiator. He saved me money by repairing the old radiator vs. it would be $1300 to have new radiator replaced. I asked three mechanics here in [redacted] that nobody nowadays repair radiator, all or nothing. Also if you need to repair you have to go radiator specialist shop.

[redacted] ordered new radiator but di not use it to save us money (in the last moment they told us).

So here are my questions:

Where did the shop order the radiator with order and track numbers?

At what point did the mechanic decide he needed to repair vs. replace?

What exactly did the mechanic repair on the radiator?

My sister and brother called [redacted] Embassy and were advised to report to police. So on the second day, 11/*/2014, Tuesday they went back to the Staten Island to report to the police. (I would attach here the report if I can). The report number is [redacted] under my sister’s name.

On 11/*/14 I faxed to [redacted] shop

“Nov. ** 2014

[redacted] Collision [redacted] tel: ###-###-####

Fax: ###-###-####

Dear Sir:

My name is [redacted], brother of your clients, [redacted] and [redacted], and also the owner of the car, BMW X5 of 2004 that your shop just fixed.

My sister [redacted] and brother [redacted] found their white Macbook, Mini Pad, binoculars, shaver were missed from the car.

They came to see our mom who passed away on September **, 2014. After that they travelled in the States trying to relieve their sadness. The mini iPad is from our mother which has a lot priceless memory inside. The loss of their belongings obviously adds new sadness to them. Please understand.

I heard from my sister that you would check the store video to determine what was really going on there and asked me to check back on Wednesday, tomorrow. Her English is not that good so I am not sure if she understands right that you would check and give us a say.

The loss of our mom and her belong and our belongs is beyond the word. We do need to communicate with you guys. So please communicate with us.

I want to say thank you to [redacted]. He spent hours helping my sister and brother to find a hotel . His help really make them feel at home in the city. Keep it up! [redacted]. Appreciate you.

Yours.

[redacted], [redacted]”

After I faxed I followed up with a phone call and got a yes.

I talked with the boss and said my sister told me you would check the video to see if there was anything wrong. The boss answered he checked and did not see anything.

My questions here are:

Which date did he check on, 10/**/14 through 11/**/14?

My brother and sister came back to [redacted] Oregon, bring back and itemized receipt and also many more thing surfaced.

Now at home I can check the itemized receipt (I will attach here if I can).

Here are the items that I have questions:

202115 BDY Repair Cooling Radiator Existing 2.5 hours

Additional Costs $372.78

So on 11/**/2014 at 9:21am I called [redacted] to ask about the bill statement. Someone answered the phone and said he would look for the person who repaired the car and ask me to hold on. I waited for half hour and I had to hang up, no body came.

So I faxed.

“Nov. **, 2014

[redacted] Collision [redacted] tel: ###-###-####

Fax: ###-###-####

Dear Sir:

[redacted] again. Just called you to ask something about the bill statement. The person who answered said he would check the [redacted]o find out. I waited for 30 minutes but no one came to say anything.

Anyway, here are my questions:

One (should be “on”) the statement, what is the Additional cost of $372.78?

Also I like to know what repair you have done to the radiator.

We found the binoculars case. The binoculars is gone. Obviously someone had the time to take the binoculars out of the case.

Also a USB charger was missing.

[redacted]###-###-#### [redacted]”

My brother and sister on the way home after 11/**/2014, found the sunroof was opened. The sunroof could only open a little bit, maybe ¼. If you open full to the rear you can close it unless you use some tool using special way to do it. I know the trick. Someone in the [redacted] shop apparently played with the X5 and opened the sunroof but could close it. I instructed my brother to close it on the phone.

We have to take care of the driver side door. We spent $409.50 to have it fixed at the [redacted] at [redacted].

In Short,

1. We are charged unnecessary money,

a. they said they replaced a new radiator but did not.

b. They did not answer my question where exactly is the fix on the radiator.

c. They did not answer what the additional cost is.

2. Our valuables was stolen in the shop, someone had the time and “safe” space and convenience to do it. USB charger was not valuable but it convenient to access. Someone had the time to take the binoculars out of the case, he did not need to worry someone else might watch him.

3. Someone played the car, the driver side door being damaged and the sunroof being opened.

People in the [redacted], I can reason and I can figure. But God has been watching. What are your answers to my questions?Desired Settlement: answer all teh questions I asked above.

adjust the repair charge.

pay the damage to the driver side door.

give the detail of video recording.

Review: They have had my car in the shop since July [redacted] and are not giving me valid reasons why they are not releasing it to me. They are trying to tell me I have to pay out of pocket for a brake job that I did not approve of. They are not cooperating with my insurance company to let them pay for the damages. Holding my car for so long is causeing emotional distress to my and my family.Desired Settlement: That I do not have to pay the $1,300 they want me to pay out of pocket and for them to waive my deducible

After getting into an accident Styland said they would "take care of me" if I choose their body shop to make the repairs. It's been three weeks now with no car. Twice they moved back the date when I could come pick it up. The damage to my car is so minor that when asking other body shops how long they would take to get this work done it should have only been a week. I can't wait to deal with them when it's time for me to pay the bill. The company should be audited and/or regulated.

Review: I also sent a form VS-35 complaint report to the Division of Vehicle Safety about my problem. My car was in an accident around 3-*-15 and was towed to Styland Collision Shop for repairs. when I signed the necessary papers,I was told that my car would be repaired in 2 or 3 weeks.I called the shop several times over the period of 30 days,& every time I called I would here ether service or when my call was picked up they would ask me what kind of car or what color was the car. After 30 days when [redacted] notified me that my time was up I decided to take a ride to Skyland Collision Shop. To my surprise my car was not in the shop,my car was still in their parking lot where it was when I first went to see the damages on the car.I told the shop foreman that I was not happy with this picture & that I wanted my car takened to another shop for repairs. At this point in time they proceeded tow my car into their shop & shut their door, not wanting to talk or here me any more.Desired Settlement: I would like to take my car to another shop.

Review: My vehicle was involved on an accident on January *, 2016. They told me that in would be ready in 2 weeks. Every time I call to see if we can pick it up there is a new reason why it's not done. I need my vehicle back. I have 3 children with special needs & I have to turn in the rental because the insurance company will not pay for any more days.Desired Settlement: I just want the vehicle done so we can put this behind us.

Consumer

Response:

I have my vehicle back. I do still need to bring it back to them to fix an issue with part of the paint job. They waived the deductible to make up for taking so long fixing it. Hopefully when I bring it back next week, they will fix the issue & we will be done. I just want this to be over.
