I am rejecting this response because:There are inaccuracies in the business owners response: The statement that the detailed curb construction with projected full end height was explained to me and accepted by me is simply untrueA general statement as to it's construction is accurate, same as reflected in the written Work Order as well The statement that he told they have no experience with glass enclosures is not true, and frankly would be unbelievableA contractor of tile work for 20+ years including showers has NO EXPERIENCE dealing with glass surrounds? PleaseWhat was actually stated was that they do not handle dismantling or re-installing glass enclosures because they are concerned with liability in case of breakage, which I agreed was acceptable to me It is true that we never specifically discussed keeping the curb height the sameThis is the aspect that causes me concern as to competence and experienceWe also did not discuss and agree what brand and type mortars would be usedWe did not discuss and agree on every individual tile to be removed and replacedWe did not discuss and agree on spacing measurement between tilesWe did not discuss and agree for which tiles a tile saw would be used vsa scoring cutter. My point is that it is not practical or expected that a non-expert homeowner would define for a contractor every single detailed aspect of the work to be performed, nor would I expect a contractor be amenable to working under those conditionsHomeowners hire 'experts' with the expressed understanding that they utilize their knowledge and experience to complete a job properly. This contractor knew my expectation to re-use the existing surround from the discussions that he has stated and agreed that we hadKnowing that, it seems obvious to me now, as the expectation was at the time, that the curb height, on which the entire surround structure depends, would simply be replicatedI don't believe there was specific intent to cause me additional expenseI believe that this contractor simply gave no thought to the ramifications of building a curb to whatever height he feltI question why 2x4's were necessary instead of 1, or I question a full curb height of +seven inches - this is higher than most ordinary steps for stairways and other areas7+ inches is unnecessarily far above the new shower floor itself for overflow concernsYes I did approve the final work visually, not noting at the moment the curb height.Only days later, after waiting the suggested time for all work to dry and set did I try to begin re-install of the glass surround and become aware of the problem, and immediately called the contractor. When I called and discussed with him, he acted completely surprised, and stated: "well, that's the way we always build them." He offered no solution or amelioration, and simply went silent, offering no more discussionI said thanks a lot and hung up, as it seemed clear to me from his response and silence that he would have nothing more to do or say about it with me.This contractor led me to believe that he would stand behind his workHe spoke proudly about his Revdex.com ratingHis work in this case is not correct to agreed intentions or acceptableI am asking that he live up to his word to be responsible for his work, and provide correction at no further cost to me or financial compensation

I am attaching a copy of the Labor Estimate from Mr [redacted] that clearly does not state any language about re-installing the door We submitted the exact same response as submitted to the Revdex.com on Monday 3/27/as a response to another complaint filed to the Summit County Office of Consumer Affairs by Mr*** In their response they dismissed the complaint because all work specified in the labor estimate was completed For item #in the Mr***’s response, my company does not install custom shower enclosures as he stated That by no means should reflect on my company’s performance As to not get into a contentious debate over the statements in item 3, the specifications were not written out to the exact height and width of each piece installed However I am the professional and build my shower pans and install tile as I was trained years ago Every custom shower floor has been built as has been previously specified and therefore is not built to whatever height I choose I have performed all the work specified in the labor estimate I should not be responsible for the cost of replacing the shower enclosure to be installed at the customer’s home

My company was contacted by Mr. [redacted] because he had water leaking from the bathroom shower into the living room.  When providing the estimate to the client, he stated the leak was either from the plastic shower pan or the glass enclosure not properly holding seal.   During the...

estimate I explained to the customer how the new shower floor would be constructed.  The shower curb would be built with three 2x4’s stacked on top of each other to a height of 4 ½ inches, ½ inch cement board to cover the 2x4 sides and top, shower pan liner, portland and sand sloped to the drain, and 2x2 ceramic shower floor tile.   This is the proper way to construct a shower bottom with ceramic tile to eliminate any risk of leakage.   I also showed him pictures of shower rebuilds I had completed including the shower curb and marble sill. In addition, he visited our web site to see pictures of our work.  The height of the new curb was never questioned.   It was also stated during the estimate that I do not install shower doors on custom tub decks and shower enclosures.  I did recommend that he contact a glazer for a new shower enclosure or to see if the old enclosure could be refit.  He then stated he would handle the glass enclosure portion of the shower himself.  We were hired to install the new shower bottom as specified above.  Upon removing the tile one row high over the plastic base and removing the plastic shower base, the water damage on the floor was below the tracking for the shower door on the left side front of the tub deck knee wall.  A section of ¾” plywood was replaced due to water damage.   We never discussed keeping the height of the old and new shower bottoms the same height.   A tile shower bottom is not the same height as a plastic bottom.  In my 20+ years I have been in business in the Akron area, I have proven to be very competent at building showers with 100’s of satisfied customers.   In addition, keeping an A+ rating with the Akron Revdex.com proves I have a reputable company.   Every shower base we have built has been done the same way as stated above.    When Mr. [redacted] contacted me because the old enclosure did not fit, I explained to him the old door was custom fit to the old plastic base not a tile base.  He was very rude and basically hung up on me.    We provided everything that was contracted in the labor estimate and we should not be responsible for paying for the customer’s new custom glass enclosure to fit the new shower base that he contracted my company to build.  We made it perfectly clear we have no experience with custom glass enclosures.  Upon completing the job, Mr. [redacted] was very satisfied and stated the new shower base looked great.

I am rejecting this response because:There are inaccuracies in the business owners response:1.     The statement that the detailed curb construction with projected full end height was explained to me and accepted by me is simply untrue. A general statement as to it's construction is accurate, same as reflected in the written Work Order as well.2.     The statement that he told they have no experience with glass enclosures is not true, and frankly would be unbelievable. A contractor of tile work for 20+ years including showers has NO EXPERIENCE dealing with glass surrounds? Please. What was actually stated was that they do not handle dismantling or re-installing glass enclosures because they are concerned with liability in case of breakage, which I agreed was acceptable to me.3.     It is true that we never specifically discussed keeping the curb height the same. This is the aspect that causes me concern as to competence and experience. We also did not discuss and agree what brand and type mortars would be used. We did not discuss and agree on every individual tile to be removed and replaced. We did not discuss and agree on spacing measurement between tiles. We did not discuss and agree for which tiles a tile saw would be used vs. a scoring cutter. My point is that it is not practical or expected that a non-expert homeowner would define for a contractor every single detailed aspect of the work to be performed, nor would I expect a contractor be amenable to working under those conditions. Homeowners hire 'experts' with the expressed understanding that they utilize their knowledge and experience to complete a job properly. This contractor knew my expectation to re-use the existing surround from the discussions that he has stated and agreed that we had. Knowing that, it seems obvious to me now, as the expectation was at the time, that the curb height, on which the entire surround structure depends, would simply be replicated. I don't believe there was specific intent to cause me additional expense. I believe that this contractor simply gave no thought to the ramifications of building a curb to whatever height he felt. I question why 3 2x4's were necessary instead of 1, or 2. I question a full curb height of +seven inches - this is higher than most ordinary steps for stairways and other areas. 7+ inches is unnecessarily far above the new shower floor itself for overflow concerns. Yes I did approve the final work visually, not noting at the moment the curb height.Only 4 days later, after waiting the suggested time for all work to dry and set did I try to begin re-install of the glass surround and become aware of the problem, and immediately called the contractor. When I called and discussed with him, he acted completely surprised, and stated: "well, that's the way we always build them." He offered no solution or amelioration, and simply went silent, offering no more discussion. I said thanks a lot and hung up, as it seemed clear to me from his response and silence that he would have nothing more to do or say about it with me.This contractor led me to believe that he would stand behind his work. He spoke proudly about his Revdex.com rating. His work in this case is not correct to agreed intentions or acceptable. I am asking that he live up to his word to be responsible for his work, and provide correction at no further cost to me or financial compensation.

I am attaching a copy of the Labor Estimate from Mr. [redacted] that clearly does not state any language about re-installing the door.   We submitted the exact same response as submitted to the Revdex.com on Monday 3/27/17 as a response to another complaint filed to the Summit County Office of Consumer Affairs by Mr. [redacted].  In their response they dismissed the complaint because all work specified in the labor estimate was completed.    For item #2 in the Mr. [redacted]’s response, my company does not install custom shower enclosures as he stated.  That by no means should reflect on my company’s performance.   As to not get into a contentious debate over the statements in item 3, the specifications were not written out to the exact height and width of each piece installed.  However I am the professional and build my shower pans and install tile as I was trained 30 years ago.   Every custom shower floor has been built as has been previously specified and therefore is not built to whatever height I choose.    I have performed all the work specified in the labor estimate.  I should not be responsible for the cost of replacing the shower enclosure to be installed at the customer’s home.
