The customer came into the store to purchase a gun and my sales person did spend over an hour showing the lady guns and explaining the processAs we follow state and federal laws when selling guns we did tell her she could not purchase a handgun because she was not a Mississippi residentThe lady
stated that she was now a Mississippi resident but had not changed her license over yetIt was explained to her that she would have to prove she was a Mississippi resident AND THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK BEFORE she could leave with the gunShe stated that she was a nurse and a background check would not be a problemAt the time she purchased the gun it was in the middle of what most businesses call "tax time" and people are spending lots of moneyWe inform all customers of our lay a way plan if they do not purchase right then so they have the opportunity to have the item the wanted and pick it up at a later date. It is for the Federal Government to delay someone on a background check in order to further investigate the person and determine if they should have a gun or notWE, nor any other facility in our country cannot possibly know or keep up with the background of customers coming in to purchase guns and this is why we rely on the ATF to do these checksI will add it is the customers responsibility to know whether or not they have anything in there background that may obstruct them from owning a handgun. The lady did not pass her background check for some reason, we are not told as to whyAll we can do is tell her that she did not pass the background check and inform her that she may appeal the decision with the ATF if she thinks they made a wrong decisionShe was not happy about this and became irritated with us as if it were our fault she could not pass the background check and started demanding her money backIt is posted all over our store and on her sales receipt: ALL SALES FINAL, NO CASH REFUNDSAnd we stick to that policyI did offer the lady a store credit as I am not trying to "steal" her money as she statedFederal & State laws clearly state in this situation that I do not have to refund anything but I have an issue with this and do not feel that is right so we offer her a store creditWe have spent approximately three hours or more dealing with this lady and done our job, it's not our fault or responsibility SHE cannot pass a background checkI wonder if the medical facility she works for is aware of this?As to the lady's statement that we handled this improperly and I am a racistI feel she is playing the race card to try and get her wayWe did everything we were supposed to do correctly, she just doesn't like the fact that she can't throw a fit and get her wayI will still honor the store credit of $even though she has slandered my name and the reputation of my businessI am not trying to take anything away from herShe wouldn't get up and go to work everyday and work three hours for free so we sill not eitherI feel she should know her own background and whether she can own a gun or not.Thank You, *** ***
