I am responding to your letter concerning a complaint received about my office, SummerwoodPediatrics, alleging multiple billing or collection issuesPlease be informed that this family previouslywas insured by *** *** *** which is what we had on file, prior to the 8/7/visit for one
oftheir childrenAlthough our staff always asks the parents if there are insurance changes at the time ofservice, the parent did not inform us that they had Medicaid service until 1/19/15, at which time wefound that there was no eligible coverage by either *** *** *** or MedicaidWe informedthe mother on multiple occasions that the Medicaid coverage was not active, resulting in theoutstanding balance being assigned to personal responsibilityAs a result, we had to bill the familynumerous times thereafter, and never received any subsequent response from the familyAlthough wemade a final call to the mother on 6/16/prior to placing the debt in collections, we received nocontact until your letter arrived on 8/18/On that day, our billing staff then checked eligibility again,which revealed that Medicaid coverage was backdated to date of service 8/7/14.We make great effort in avoiding placing our families in collection status, since we are primarilyconcerned with the health and welfare of the children we care forHowever, there was an obvious lackof communication of the part of the parents in assisting us in dealing with these billing issues.I hope this explains this situation adequately and please let me know if you need any furtherinformation or details.Sincerely,Robert A***, MD, MHA, MBAMedical Director

At this time, every thing they are saying I owe is should have been paid by Medicaid and *** *** *** *** ***I didn't inform you of my insurance information right away because I never got it right awayIt took me months to get the cardsI told the receptionist and she looked the numbers up instead of taking the number I hadAt this point I don't care how or when you got themI want you to submit the bills to the insurance company and drop the lawsuit because I don't owe you any moneyNo one in your office has called me back or sent me confirmation that these bills are handledI have faxed you all my insurance information and contact information more than onceAttached are the letters I sent to this company on 7/29/and 8/13/And I spoke to their lawyer last week and he said he sent an email asking if they billed medicaid and I have yet to hear back from him
