WORST CREDIT Union ever. They repeatedly apply my car & credit card payments incorrectly, then charge me a $25 late fee AND submit the lateness to the credit reporting agencies. Cannot get anyone to assist me with this issue. Customer Service personnel are RUDE and unwilling to help. Credit/Collections are extremely rude and unwilling to admit they're wrong even with the proof that I had to provide.

My husband was in need of a new debit card as his magnetic strip was worn out. He works 6 days a week, long days, so once he got home from work yesterday at approximately 4:45 pm, I jumped to the occasion to call Summit, set up the call, and have them speak to him, as his debit card is in his name, not mine. I was fully aware and expected that they MUST speak to him to gain his account information and verify him. I called member services at **SSN**0 and after waiting on hold for approximately 10 minutes, caller number 11, a woman named [redacted] answered the call. I explained that my husband was present next to me and that he needed to request a new debit card and had questions regarding a $.13 late fee notice that we received in the mail. She was very rude and disrespectful and said something like, 'well yes I can do that if I TALK TO HIM, I'm not sure why you're calling me!' It seemed as if she was yelling at me. I did not provide the woman with any account information nor tried to request such requests for my husband's account. I felt very disrespected. All I was doing was setting up the call for my husband because there is no way he would wait on hold for 10+ minutes, so I was trying to accomplish his request since I had him home during Summit's business hours. My husband and I do have a joint checkig account where BOTH our names are on it and we also have a mortgage loan where BOTH our names are on it. I wasn't trying to skirt around policy and request a new debit card when my name is not on his personal checking account. I am insulted at how [redacted] treated me. Once my husband got on the phone, she was nice as can be, overly nice. My husband and I are considering switching our account and loan to a different credit union.

I have a business account and loan thru Summit Credit Union. I have been working directly with [redacted] and [redacted] in Business Services and I am so impressed with the level of customer service and attention. I would recommend SCU for business services to any small business owner.

I had some minor questions about my current motorcycle loan and decided to call their customer service line. The wait time time was around 5 minutes, which was to be expected during the middle of the day. Stephanie answered the phone and was incredibly helpful and proactive in helping me. Not only did she answer my question, but she also set me up with an online account (which is a bit more technical than your major financial institutions on-line setup; due to verification you have to call and answer a few security questions). I did not have to ask to be set-up with an account, she proactively asked, and in addition to that, she offered to assist me as I created the account! A+ service. This was the first time I called in, and I am glad that I chose summit. Thanks again Stephanie.

Here is my unheard story. My background with money was not good, but it was not bad either. I worked all my life and am determine to improve on my financial background. My credit isn't good, but it doesn't mean I am not a good person. It just means I had made bad decisions when I was an adolescent. I was irresponsible in the past with money, and I have been taking the initiative steps to clean them up and been successful doing so at the same time. My path to be financially stable is still ongoing, but will soon end since I’ll reach my goals. I'm just an average person. I pay my taxes, employed full-time, a good citizen, etc. Anyways, my experience with Summit Credit Union period was awful. Their advertisement and website seems user friendly, but when I went down there personally, it was a different story. They contradict what they advertised on their website under their about section, "Summit Credit Union connects people and inspires action to create member and community wealth" and bankers communicate how they are here for the people and to assist them financially, etc. I was referred by a friend that this would be the bank to bank with since I heard good things about credit unions and I wanted a credit union account. I like to make sure I am well prepared because my time is valuable. I called ahead of time, several months prior and spoke to a member representative and even went into one of the branches to confirm what I need to do in order to open an account. I asked them to make sure if there was anything I need to clear up and the representative found something in Chex systems. She had advised me how to clear it up and I asked if I could provide a receipt or statement and she said yes, that would be fine. So I went to the bank that reported me and I paid them off. I got something from that bank to verify that it was paid and settled. Afterwards, I went to a local Summit branch office, the branched looked nice and decent. It wasn't a lot of employees or helpers available, but I waited to speak with a banker to open a checking account. The representative took my information and asked me questions. I explained the representative my story, provided the proof and my application was denied. The representative couldn’t open me a checking account, because it was still reporting in Chex system, but it was reported paid. So I asked what seems to be the problem. He gave me a general explanation and just didn’t want to work with me; maybe it was because of my color and he didn’t understand where I was coming from. So I told him I’ll try again and take my business elsewhere. I felt very disappointed that I took my time before hand and got denied. So I went to another Summit bank location. I did the same thing, explained the representative my story and she called the representative that initially submitted my application. Uh yeah, hello… There is a reason why I am asking you for help. So she kindly denied me. So I went back home, called Summit Credit Union to find someone that can help me or is willing to help me. I spoke to a representative and at this point I was just emotional, disappointed and disheartened. Someone coming from a customer service background, I know and understand that there is a way to help someone especially, if you are knowledgeable of what management can do for you. Customers are always right. So I challenged the guy. I asked the guy where in your policy or criteria that it states that I cannot open a checking account if a bill in Chex system was paid and was reporting paid. He put me on hold. He came back. He couldn’t find the policy. He asked me, why do I want to bank with Summit Credit Union? I was just surprised. I told him I had my personal reasons and that had me upset even more. Of course, I was referred by a friend by your service and good ratings, but I didn’t tell him that since he stupidly asked me that question. Someone who asks me that type of question wouldn’t even comprehend what I am saying. I asked if there anything that he could do for me, can I open a savings account? He said no. So at this point, the decision to even continue trying at this point was a no go for me. For the majority of the bank that I had called to check their policy, those banks would accept this scenario and that was the next thing that happened. I didn’t give up, because when there is a will there is always a way. When one door closes another door opens. I went to one of their competitors, who are one of the largest credit union in Wisconsin that was ranked the best credit unions to bank with. I went into their branch, explained my situation, provided the receipt that I paid off the bill to the bank that reported me in Chex system, and they approved me. I am worth more with them just like their slogan. This proves that Summit Credit Union has managers with bad judgments working for them. Summit credit unions with managers who cannot understand or don’t have good discretion on a case by case scenario, wouldn’t be a place I would want to bank at all and recommend to others. The credit union that I am now a member of didn’t discriminate or judge me and understood where I was coming from. I normally don’t write a review, but out of justice and fairness for me and others who want to better themselves, that is why I am voicing my experience. Stay away and clear from Summit Credit Unions!

Hello, beware of poor customer service, horrible online system, long wait times at branch, on-phone, on-line. Online system is down often and even their staff cannot figure out how to work it if you call in.

Review: I called and informed Summit of my losing my job and that I would pay my loan as soon as I could. I played phone tag with a [redacted] at extension [redacted] numerous times with her waiting a week or more to call back. They stated that they sent a letter on 7/25 with the information about repossessing my car. I never got the letter. The last phone call I had was 8/6/13 from [redacted]. Today my car was repossessed. I called to see what I could do to get it back seeing as how I could pay on Friday the amount. I have been very upfront about the job loss with Summit I have dealt with many nice people however [redacted] and [redacted] are two of the worse employees I have ever dealt with. I can pay my 3 late payments and the fees to get my car. I cant however come up with 12,000.00 (estimation since I couldn't be told what was owed). [redacted] questioned why I would want to do a law suit against your company. I did not just not pay my loan because I did not want to. I tried to keep in touch as much as I could. I took a part time job to help pay it back. I need my vehicle because now I can't work. I want to know why I cant pay the late part of my payments and get my car back.Desired Settlement: Please contact me back and explain the details of this to me.

My husband and I joined this institution back when it was State Capitol Employees Credit Union. It was wonderful! They got bought out by Commonwealth and it wasn't quite so wonderful. Now it's average at best. The biggest frustration is the poor online banking system. It has only basic functionality (e.g. there's no way to view and print a check that's been deposited or cashed), and awkward to use requiring separate logon and defaulting to only the most recent few transactions. We're in the process of closing our account and are already enjoying the friendly service and enhanced online banking functions of our new credit union. Shop around; there are better places than Summit

Review: Summit sells a VISA Gift Card with expiration dates printed on the cards.

VISA will take $5/mo as fee starting at 12th month of gift card.

Receivers of gift card do not search for at the extra fee notice, as expiration date is misleading recipient into thinking all is well until expiration date (in our case, 2017)

We asked Summit for help in getting a $100 card reissued or for suggestions on how to get help from VISA.

They had no suggestions and yes, the card is now of no value.

VISA sent us to Summit. Summit has no help, sent us to call VISA.

SUMMIT stills sells these cards with misleading information.

VISA is perhaps more than fault than SUMMIT, but VISA did suggest we ask for help from them.Desired Settlement: Repalcement of gift at original amount on a new card or refund for the amount of the gift card.

IF THE GIVER had put $100 bill in the graduation card (UW student and employee) the cash would still be good. The card should still represent the full amount until said expiration date.

Response:

The gift card was given as a gift and the recipient did not receive

the disclosures which explain the inactive fee that is charged. For goodwill, we will be sending a new card

with disclosures.

The resolution as proposed by the Summit Credit Union would be acceptable. Thanks for your effort in this matter.

Review: I have been a member of the WCU since I was 19 years old. I have always paid my invoice. I have never missed a payment. I asked for from $500.00 - $1.000,00 I went to Summit Credit last year and was allowed to borrow $1,500.00. No problem. I had a mortgage of $891.00 approx. and I keep an eye on creditkarma. My credit is very good - to excellent. I just had a small raise from the state. My mortgage is now $40.00 less= $851.00 and I have never missed a payment. Every transaction I do is ACH. I am always on time with every payment which is ACH of $130.00. . I do NOT understand why last year I was able to borrow $1,500.00 and this year denied. I am in a better place with my mortgage and nothing has changed as I am never late. I just want my personal loan refinanced as I will still be paying $130.00/month. Nothing will change. I had a 2-yeat problem with Summit whereas their error messed up my budget for 2 years until I had to prove my honesty and had a conference call with Associated Bank, me and Summit. Within minutes my account was properly credited as it should have been in the first place. I have a savings but I don't want to touch it and besides that my ACH is credited to summit of $130.00/month Why is this a problem. I am just adding to the present personal loan.Desired Settlement: Allow the added refinance of my personal loan which I pay $130.00/month ACH. There has never been a problem and I don't want a problem but this is not right nor fair as I have never missed a payment. Thia 9s the first problem I have ever had refinancing my personal loan.
