Sun City Awning & Patio Reviews (49)

I had an awning installed almost a year ago. There was a small problem with dripping in a couple of spots. Today I had the pleasure of meeting [redacted] who not only recognized the problem but also fixed it on the spot. Best hang on to guys like this a they are diamonds in the rough. It also speaks volumes for Sun City Awning who cares enough for a satisfied customer longer than it takes to cash the check for the installation. Bottom line is quality company with quality personnel. Thanks so much!

We live in Avondale, Arizona. We recently purchased windows screens from Sun City Awning & Patio. The company was recommended by some friends who had used them. We were not disappointed. The sales representative laid out all our options and helped us decide what was best for us within the financial limits we had. As promised, they were delivered and installed in less time then originally stated. We are delighted with the quality of the blinds and the professionalism of the company and their follow through. We would recommend them to anyone.

Sun City Awning has been our go to company for shade in our backyard for years. We have just installed a 19 x 19 Ramada in our backyard and love it. The sales person [redacted] really know his stuff. He truly cares and listens to what you are trying to accomplish. The inside people are great to from [redacted] to the staff, they have also listened and made things happen with no questions asked. Truly a great company and would highly recommend them to all my friends and family.
Regards,
[redacted] and [redacted]

We contacted Sun City Awning in july 2013 to have an awning installed. A man came out to take measurements and told us it would be 6-8 weeks before installation, which I thought was a long time but we gave him $900.00 which was half the cost. When 8 weeks passed I called them to see when they were coming and a man I think his name was [redacted] told me he had two guys out with injury and they would be there the following week. Well the next week came and passed and I called again. I told him there 6-8 weeks was now about 10 weeks. He said I'll have installer call you and he'll be out there Saturday morning. Well sat. morning came and the installer called me and said I can't find the material for your awning I'll have go pick it up myself Monday morning. Well here it's been about 11 weeks and they hadn't even ordered the material. Well he was there Monday morning and installed it in 2 days. I told him the old awning we had there leaked up against the house. He told me don't worry this won't leak. Well the first rain came and guess what, it leaked. I called them up and the girl that answered the phone said it could be two weeks before the work order gets processed. A month later I called them to see what was up and she connected me with the same guy I think and he said the guy would be out first thing mon. morning. I talked to him the Friday before. 8:30 mon. morning no one showed so I called again and got the voice mail. Well he showed up an hour later. So we'll wait till the next rain and see. The service and Sun City Awning I would say is horrible.

We have had three projects completed by Sun City Awning: Motorized Drop Down Awnings, Lattice Cover and recently they installed a privacy panel. Sun City Awning is very professional and friendly starting with their sales representative [redacted]. [redacted] does a great job of taking our design ideas and adding his expertise to come up with a great look for our projects. The office personnel handle the billing process in an efficient manner and they keep us up to date on possible project target dates. Once the date has been established for our project our experience has been that the installation team arrives on time and completes the project within the time frame established. We expect quality work to be done when we hire a company and Sun City Awning meets our high standards. They establish neat working areas and always clean up the area when the project is done. We especially appreciate the follow-up phone calls from Sun City Awning to make sure that they have met our needs. We strongly recommend Sun City Awning!

I live in Ahwatukee and needed to install screens on two large (4x8') windows because the sunlight was reflecting off the windows and drying or killing my lawn that faced that side of the house. I had a smooth experience for the project.

To streamline to project, I sent a couple of pictures and rough measurements to Sun City Awnings to let them know what I was looking for. Shortly thereafter, two people came to take detailed measurements and to show me the materials, colors, and shade options. For my project, they suggested an 80% shade (which makes it easy to look out the windows and still see what's going on in the backyard) and a beige color with white frame to match the house. They said that it takes about 1-2 weeks for the frame material to be ordered and applied to the frame. Due to the size of the windows, they also suggested two screens per window, rather than one large screen. I scheduled the install for about 2 weeks later, and the installer arrived ready to go. He had the screens installed in about an hour or so, and I could not be more pleased. Not only do they compliment the exterior of the house, I'm guessing they will pay for themselves in a few months by how much sunlight (and therefore heat) they prevent from coming into my living room. The process could not have been smoother.

I'm a little confused by this premature complaint.

I met with the customer on 4/7/14 to address their concerns.  I agreed that there was an issue and promised to take care of it.  I showed pictures to my supplier, and the supplier agreed to make new product.  We...

talked to the customer along the way to let them know the supplier was sending new parts.  It normally takes 2-3 weeks to get product from this supplier, and we received the replacement parts on Friday the 18th which is less than 2 weeks from the jobsite meeting date.  We called the customer that same day (Friday) to tell them we would be out to install it the following week...and then I receive this complaint today (Monday) at 3am.

We haven't delayed or procrastinated in any way.  The repairs will be made.

Respectfully,

Sun City Awning

In September I purchased a covered patio by Sun City Awning, it was great timing with the heavy rain and wind we received in the Phoenix Area. The patio did fine with the high winds so don't let other companies tell you AlumaWood patios cannot withstand high wind. If its professionally installed and the material is quality, its not a problem.

From start to finish staff were very friendly and professional. Office personnel kept me up-to-date on project installation dates, the installer was friendly, on time and cleaned up after the project was done. Although there was a problem with the color of the main patio trim, it was replaced. I'm very pleased with my beautiful, covered patio and with I could have done it years ago! I strongly recommend Sun City Awning, you will not be disappointed with your purchase!

We hired Sun City Awning to take down and reconstruct an existing AlumaWood patio covering. The contractor we hired in 2006 neglected to obtain a building permit, and nine years later the City of Surprise notified us of code violations pertaining to the missing permit and a setback violation (structure too close to the property line). Our sales rep arrived on time and took some preliminary measurements. Even before he wrote up an estimate, I stressed that I didn't want to deal with the City regarding permit issues, and that I wanted to see everything in writing. And that's just what I got. The project manager contacted me the following week to explain the demolition and reconstruction process (four large masonry support columns had to be removed). The overall process did take several weeks, but their customer service department called more than once to assure me the project was on schedule. The week prior to installation, the project manager and installer came out to take final measurements, as I was still concerned with the setback issue. Suffice it to say, my wife and I are impressed with the end result (we have shade again!), and the City inspectors gave their stamp of approval as well. We were also impressed that whenever a work crew or City inspector needed access to our yard, Sun City Awning contacted us in advance and, per my request, called again when they were on their way over (our dog usually has free access to the yard). Job well done!

Review: On September 17, 2014 [redacted] of Sun City Awning gave us a bid on an awning total price

$5800.00. On that day I gave him a 50% down deposit. [redacted] said Sun City Awning would let us know a start date as soon as they got the permit. Over a month later on Oct 24th we received an E-Mail from [redacted] asking if we had received [redacted] approval (see att.} We called Mr. [redacted] back and informed him that we did not live in an [redacted] area & since they had just done a job next store we assumed that he knew that and that all we needed was a county permit. Mr. [redacted] said he would order a County Permit, and let us know when they received it, so that we could set up am install date.

On approximately Nov 17th I called and talked to Mr. [redacted] he said they had the permit and forwarded me to the project manager for my job .The project manager informed me that he would get the materials ordered. On Dec. 8th 2014 I went to Sun City Awning and talked to [redacted] who informed me that the material had not been ordered. He said he would take care of our job and get the materials ordered. He called us a couple weeks later and said they would start the job on Dec.29th.

On December 28th I was admitted to the hospital with a blood infection. Friends were here with my wife when two men came with a concrete saw to cut the holes in our patio for the footings . My wife & friends witnessed the gas operated saw (while running} go into our pool. One of the men had to remove his boots and retrieve the saw with a pool brush as the pool has a depth of 4 feet where the saw went in, they also witnessed the two men hose all of the debri into the pool when questioned as to why they were hosing it into the pool they said we do that all the time with the debri. They did say later to my wife that they did not know she had seen the saw go into the pool and that has never happened before. When asked to sign off my wife made a notation that said I was in the hospital and that the saw had gone into pool. Later that day our pool looked like a swamp.

The project manager [redacted] came out looked at pool and said he would have his pool guy look at it. [redacted] of [redacted] came out three times and finally said that it would need to be drained and acid washed.

We had this pool totally jackhammered out & re-plastered in Nov. 2012. [redacted] said wait until the awning is done and we will drain & clean and acid wash then.

On Monday Jan 5th Sun City Awning sent [redacted] to construct the awning while he was here the county inspector came he informed [redacted] that we needed a ground wire from the awning to the pool equipment. [redacted] immediately called [redacted] and told him. [redacted] informed me that project manager [redacted] told him that the ground wire would be trenched in when they poured the footings

A man came several days later to pour the concrete footings. After he left I noticed that the ground wire had not been installed. By this time the concrete was setting up. I called [redacted] project manager and informed him. [redacted] informed me that they had been told to place the ground wire when they poured the footings, so he came out to look and check. Mr. [redacted] ended up putting the wire in himself by running it along the top of the gutter, and down the side of the house to the pool equipment. Which looks unprofessional and I am sure most people would not want done to their home.Desired Settlement: Since we had been led to believe that this job would be done in a professional and expedited manner four months earlier when we had paid the 50% down, as a result of all the delays Ihave had to cancel two round trip tickets to Denver ,and one one-way ticket to Seattle. So here we are 4 months in without the awning complete and a swamp for a pool, and canceled airline tickets.

To Whom It May Concern:Since there is no requested resolution from Mr. [redacted], I'm not sure how to respond other than to outline what happened from our perspective. This contract was signed with two contingencies...[redacted] approval & Permit Approval (see attached contract with this area highlighted.) We do not mark these [redacted] or Permit contingencies unless there have been specific conversations with the customer about making the contract contingent on one or both of these areas. When there are contingencies on both [redacted] and permit, typically the [redacted] gets approved first, then we apply for the permit. Our office sent emails to Mr. [redacted] on October 1, 9, 16 and 24, asking about the status of his [redacted] approval. Since we did not hear back from him via email, we also called Mr. [redacted] on 10/24 to inquire about this staus. I'm not sure how or why there was confusion about whether or not he needed [redacted] approval but it was determined on the 24th that he did NOT need it. We then submitted for the permit and that was approved on November 17th. The contract stated the install would be 4 to 6 weeks after the [redacted] and Permit approvals. The six week was December 29th which is when we dug the footings. The patio cover install was completed on January 5-6. So, ultimately, our substantial completion was a week later than our stated approximate timeline. The only work remaining after the 6th was the grounding wire, the post side plates and the pool cleaning. The grounding wire was completed on January 13th and that work was approved by Mr. [redacted] before and after it was done...he later called and said he was unhappy with it and re-ran it himself, never giving us the opportunity to do it the way he wanted it to be done.) The side plates on the posts cannot be done until the customer has his kool decking completed...as soon as this is done we will install them. Regarding the pool, Mr. [redacted] requested that we wait until he is done with his kool decking and any other work he has going on in the back yard, which we totally agree and understand. When the issue with the pool was brought to our attention we took prompt action by immediately scheduling a professional pool service to look at the pool and give his recommendation. He performed 3 cleanings and then determined that the pool will need to be drained and acid washed. Sun City Awning is paying for all of this work and will pay for the extra water expense on Mr. [redacted]'s water bill.Mr. [redacted] states in his complaint that the project is still not complete and his pool is a swamp. We will complete these two items as soon as Mr. [redacted] gives us the green light to do it...again, he wanted us to wait until his kool decking was complete. Since it is not yet complete (at least he hasn't let us know about it) we are confused why he's complaining to the Revdex.com stating it has taken all this time and is still not complete.Until this Revdex.com complaint we were unaware of any trips or flights that Mr. [redacted] had to cancel. Had we known we would have encouraged him to go on the trip since we do not need him to be home for the install. It is very common for us to install projects with the homeowner out of town. We simply take pictures of the work and email them to the customer when completed. We eagerly await the notice from Mr. [redacted] that he is ready for us to install his post plates and clean the pool.Respectfully,[redacted] - OwnerSun City Awning

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Regards,

[redacted] & [redacted]To Whom It May Concern,When the contract was signed we told Mr [redacted] that we did not live in an [redacted] area and that SCA had just installed an awning 2 houses away and they only needed a county permit. Since we were going back to our home in Washington Mr [redacted] said he would let us know when SCA got the permit and stated the job should be done by the end of November. I received 2 emails from SCA the first dated 9-25 2014 and the second one dated 10-24-2014 .. The last one asked if I had gotten the [redacted] permit and I called [redacted] and informed him that we did not live in an [redacted] area and we only needed a county permit. When I called SCA to check on the permit I was told they had the permit and the material would be ordered at that time and found out Dec 8 it hadn't been ordered and that is when Mr [redacted] said he would take over the job. As for the ground wire I was told that it would be attached to a post and trenched over to a ground by my pool equipment before the concrete was pored for the footings which wasn't done. When Mr [redacted] came out to install the ground wire I said it was to be trenched in and he decided to attach it to the house and I have been sick and was in the hospital when this job was started and was to stressed to put up a fight so when I felt a little better I fixed it the way I was told it would be installed. Regarding the pool which is a very sore subject with us...... Who ever cut the holes in our patio did a terrible job. He let his gas running saw go into our pool and wasn't going to say anything until my wife confronted him about it and he told her he didn't think she saw it go into the pool.. He then washed all of the waste from cutting holes into our patio into our pool. Wouldn't you be pissed off if they did that to your pool that you had completely refinished 2 years ago....The only reason the pool hasn't been cleaned yet is because your pool person [redacted] said HE didn't want to do it until everything else was done. I called [redacted] Jan 24And he said to let him know when kool coat was finished.....That should be this week. I know that you would not have left to go on a trip if all of this had happened while you were at your home. We were going to Washington and then on to Denver and not coming back to AZ until March....I called SCA and asked to talk to the owner and was transferred to and phone and left a message and never heard back...I would be very Happy if Mr [redacted] would come to my home by himself and talk to me so he can maybe understand why we are so unhappy...Thank You[redacted]

Review: Paid 50% of the cost of installation of an awning over my front door at my property ($595.00 deposit). Company came out with wrong awning and said they would return in a few days with the right one. The company said 4 to 6 weeks was a typical install time after purchase. It has been three months now and still no awning over my front door. I emailed the company but they did not respond to my request for a refund, based on their violation of the sales contract. I have left a phone message and have not yet received a response. I would now like the company to refund my $595.00 so I can purchase the awning elsewhere.Desired Settlement: I would like the Sun City Awning to send me a refund in the amount of $595.00.

Response:

What Mr. [redacted] didn't tell you was that the awning they built did not fit the intended application and they had to leave my home without installing it. I got no apologies but they remeasured and I was told that the correct awning would be re-delivered in a few days. Weeks later, I heard nothing from Mr. [redacted] and when I called Mr. [redacted] to ask for a refund I was put through to the voice mail of the man that originally came out to measure for the awning. He did not answer so I left a message on his voice mail. He never returned my call. Nor did Mr. [redacted]. When I called back again to speak with Mr. [redacted], a female (probably Mr. [redacted]'s wife) interrupted me while I was trying to give her a message for Mr. [redacted] by leaving my name and address. When I told her to please don't interrupt me while I was speaking, she kept trying to talk over me and eventually simply hung up the phone in my ear. Poor business practice. That is when I filed the Revdex.com complaint. Yes, they refunded my money but only after I contacted the State Contractor's Board, the Revdex.com and wrote a complaint on [redacted]. I would not hire these people again to take out the trash.

Review: The three rolling shutters that were installed had multiple problems including damaged slats, poorly installed and not fitted to the size of the window.Desired Settlement: I want the problems repaired in a timely manner which the company has failed to do.

Regards,

I love my Sun City Awning! Am sorry I waited so long to do it.
First, [redacted] came and measured and drew up the perfect fit for my space. Then[redacted] and [redacted] came just as they said they would and quickly, neatly installed it. The design is great and very attractive. This has created a whole new outdoor living space for me and my guests. Thank you, Sun City Awning!

Prior to our purchasing custom-made sun shades for our hot, southwest facing patio, we’d purchased store-bought shades that did not last beyond two or three years. They were not cheap and the hot sun caused them to have that burned look and they began to ravel on the edges. One store-bought shade even had to be specially ordered because of the needed odd width. When all was said and done, we spent a lot of money for these store-bought sun shades that did not last. Lesson learned!
Then we wised up and called Sun City Awning for an estimate to replace the store bought patio shades…..shades that would last. We did just that……and the sun shades we purchased are crank-raised/lowered, are firmly anchored, and do not dangle in the wind. We do however roll the shades up on windy days only as a precaution. The sun shades are very professional in appearance and complement the color of our home.
We are extremely pleased with our sun shades and we highly recommend Sun City Awning if you are planning to install sun shades on your patio. Sales rep, [redacted], worked with us and is highly qualified as is the installation crew who hung the sun shades. Installation and clean-up were both done in a satisfactory manner. Most importantly……we are truly satisfied customers!
Sun City Awning also installed a window awning over our master bedroom window that faces the scorching southwest sun. This awning, too, has been a God send in keeping out the hot Arizona sun. It is professional in appearance and also complements the color of our home.

Review: We contacted SUN CITY AWNING to give us an estimate on a partial (or full) replacement of the existing sun shades on the home we just purchased here in Sun City West. The former owners had used this company to install over 11K in awnings and sun shades. We asked them to come out as assess the condition of the existing shades and give us an estimate. We had to BEG them to please bring a service tech so we could properly evaluate the existing shades to see what condition they were in. [redacted] our sales rep came out the first time and told us that these shades were old but that he said the motors in these were some of the best in the industry and that he had seen them last for far more years than ours. It was decided that we would do a combination of both new and existing workable shades instead of replacing all the shades due to the expense of completely re-doing them. We gave them a substantial deposit and waited. Our date for install came and went without so much as a phone call from Sun City Awning. Virtually every contact between us was at our request. They did not call, nor did they make any contact until we threatened to cancel our order at which time one of their inside service people told us they could be out and install it all within the week. So based on that assurance, we agreed to the install. The day they came to install our shades, only two of the items were actually ready. The rest of them were not. The service techs did a good job of installing the equipment they had but apologized for not having the rest of the items to complete the job.. When they arrived, there were two working shades. (While old, they both worked) When they were trying to adjust them, one of them broke so they said they needed to get another motor. and left. We never got another phone call from anyone until we called AGAIN to see what was going on. The salesman [redacted] called back to say that now we needed to come up with an additional $950 (approx) dollars to complete the job. We told him that it was his people who broke the equipment and that until they arrived that day, both were working. He said that it was just a co-incidence that the motors stopped working while they were here. We have had nothing but promises and no communication from this company since this all began.Desired Settlement: We feel that this company needs to meet us half way on the price of the replacement motors since it was their people who broke one of them. We will agree to pay half the expense to get this job finished. But, asking us to come up with the full expense for a motor they broke, a project that was NOT completed and absolutlely terrible customer service is just unprofessional.

Business

Response:

Old, out of warranty motors can be fickle. While they may work well under normal use, they receive more than normal torque, tension and movement when we have to replace the fabric. There are many plastic parts and gears within the motor casing and sometimes those parts fail during fabric replacement. So, it is not that we “broke the motor,” but rather, the motor happened to break while we were doing the fabric replacement. With that said, we agree to supply and install the new motor for half the price. Someone from our office will call to arrange a scheduled time for the installation. We apologize for any frustration or inconvenience we may have caused through this process. Thanks you,[redacted]Sun City Awning
