Unfinished pool
We signed a contract with Tim Reid of Sun Fun pools on 2/21/20 for a inground pool for $28,600. Tim sat with us telling our two young grandchildren what a wonderful summer they are going to have in their new pool while knowing that it was never going to happen. He was supposed to start by 5/15/20. I called Tim around the 15th to check the schedule and that's when the lies started. He kept making excuses why he couldn't start. He finally showed up six weeks later on 6/30/20 and dug the hole, put up the sides, put concrete around the deck and back filled. That took him about five partial days. That was the last work he did. He wouldn't return phone calls or answer texts for a week or more at a time. When he did finally did return my call it was just more lies. It was always next week next week next week. He said he was waiting for the inspector but when I talked to the county they said he didn't apply for any permit. Just another lie. He sent a employee over to pump out the pool(For what I don't know. Mabey to make me think he was going to do some work) But he didn't. I told the guy to tell Tim I don't want them back until they got permits. The next day Tim showed up with a permit and said the inspector would be here on Thurs, or Fri. I knew it was another lie because they don't schedule inspections that way. The following week the inspector did come but failed the work Tim did. Tim never even gave me a call to let me know what was going on next. Finally by the end of Sept. I had enough of his lies and fired Tim and hired someone else to finish the job. Now it is going to cost a lot more to finish because I already paid Sun Fun pools $20,200. Based on what the other pool companies said, the work that was done should be between $10,000 and $12,000. They assured me that a pool like this can't be built for $28,600. But Sun Fun can't charge the going rate because they don't have a license and can't do work for more $30,000 and that's why he can't finish what he starts in a reasonable amount of time. Tim will tell you that the contract doesn't have a start or finish date. I guess it's my fault for not wanting to wait for two or three years for a pool. What a joke. Tim Reid is a con artist and a thief.

This is exactly what mine looks like currently. I wish I would’ve looked at your review beforehand.

I am rejecting this response because: We have given Sun Fun Pools adequate time to fulfill all our requests and they chose not to The responses for when he is returning to our home with the cover and the remaining details have never been told to either my husband or myself On February 19, we notified Sun Fun Pools that they had days to fix everything wrong with our pool and deliver the remaining items that we have already paid for He chose to ignore that request It was after the days that I filed this report with the Revdex.com in the hopes that others would be privy to this information and be able to make their own decision to sign a contract with this company knowing his past historySince he thinks there is a threat of an attorney, there is no threat It is real Our attorney is [redacted] , [redacted] in Davidson, NC For any further communication from Sun Fun Pools, you need to have that conversation with him You are not allowed to return to our property without our permission AND our attorney's permission You will receive further communications from his law firm Regards, [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: This pool is still running off of an extension cord and not finishedMrR [redacted] showed up and did a little work, but once again will not return phone calls and has not shown back up to complete the job Regards, [redacted]

WARNING! He steals down payments, disappears, and is a fraud and will not hesitate to lie in your face! Stay clear! With as many bad reviews already posted, it’s a wonder how Tim at sun fun pools could still be in business. A man’s word used to be worth something.

In response to [redacted] complaint, Thanks to Revdex.com for this opportunity to respond. [redacted] need to read there contract, there is no start or completion date on your contract. So now that weve got that out of the way.The complaint Mrs. [redacted] has with the step being caulked, is an...

easy fix, the caulk supplier apparently did not adhere to the step or the concrete, after talking with step manufacturer and other builders we will grout the step like we did the bullnose copeing on the pool that turned out great. The safety cover which has to be special made because of the way that the [redacted] built there waterfall and installed a sitting rock at the pools edge that they drug across the cement. This area has been measured 4 times because the manufacturer  has kicked back the measurements because they are uneven. It has been custom made to fit there construction mishap. Mrs [redacted] knows that the rock is uneven because she said her and her husband built the structure,   Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc. will have to sign off on this cover the built structure by the [redacted]s will cause a void in the warranty. Addressing me not answering my cell phone,  I have built 462 pool and very proud of our work as far as the 10 families she has talked to, I doubt it. I have 4 families in her neighborhood that would gladly support me in which I have spoken to about Mrs. [redacted] threats to contact a lawyer. All are long time customers and still shop at Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc. retail store. I work 12 to 14 hours a day and I am usually at a job running heavy equipment. I have a Store manager who excepts all my calls daily, as does she have a retail store to run.  I have answered the phone, when Mrs. [redacted] has called  complaining about the cost of running gas line from meter to the pool heater, she had just got a price from a saleman at PSNC,  I got the saleman on the phone while at her home and got that bill cut in half by me, and my staff digging her a ditch 50' x  14" to save her money. I saved her $650.00 and running the gas line was not in Mrs [redacted] contract, I never run gas line on my contracts. Also Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc. moved 10 loads of dirt from Mrs. [redacted] back yard to the neighbors backyard, 10 loads of dirt  at $65.00 an hour for skidsteer for 8 hours. Havent charged a dime for that yet. I am just as egar to get this job behind me so we are done also. The cover will be installed 3rd week of April and the step will be grouted at the same time.I hope Mrs. [redacted] will be happy because her pool is very beautiful. The facebook talk, the lawyer threats need to stop. After the cover is installed and the step grouted, Mrs [redacted] will be taken to pool school and the final payment will be expected,  There will be a  balance also for the saw rental along with labor to cut and remove concrete. Thank you.  Thomas [redacted] Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc. 117 East Broad St. Statesville, N.C. 28677

Ive been doing business with sun fun pool company for over 20 years,I have nothing but good things to say about this company, they clean my pool weekly, and if ever any problems occur with my equipment or pool they service me in a timely manner and the employees are very knowledgeable and I have found this companies prices to be fair , actually sometimes I feel that they dont charge enough for the great work they do. I highly recommend this company for anyone whos interested in an inground pool. I visit the retail store quite often and they never sell me anything that I dont need. Water testing is done manually and accurately, ive never had a green pool. Im billed once a month and have never had any problems. The staff at sun fun pool company treat me like family, this company is family owned and the pool builder mr reid is the best pool builder in my area. We love our pool and our experience with sun fun pool co has been a great experience. We are getting ready to remodel our pool deck from normal wear and tear and sun fun pool company will be the one I will be calling for this job,I trust them to do a great job because they are professional in my opinion. Thank you sun fun pool co of statesville, n.c.[redacted]

We have also have problems with the cement around our pool that was installed by Timmy of Sun Fun Pools. He keeps stating that he has never had problems or bad reviews with the pools that he installs however I see complaints about his work all over the internet. Our pool was installed in 2014. We now have several cracks around the pool deck. One of the cracks starts at one end of the deck and spans 4 sections. Our pool deck looks horrible. Timmy has stated that he doesn't guarantee his cement work as it is in my his contract. Please before you sign a contract with him read the fine print. Timmy doesnt stand behind his work. After he gets your money he is impossible to get a hold of. Timmy doesn't install or deliver a good product since he doesn't stand behind the work of the contractor that he hires for his cement work. Buyer beware

Review: In the spring of 2008, Sun Fun Pool Co. installed a 27 foot Latham Wedgewood/Cathedral vinyl pool at our residence in Statesville. In June of 2008, cracking in the concrete began to appear at each skimmer. The cracks expanded from the pools edge to the skimmer and continued to the outer edge of the cement. Sun Fun Pool Co. was contacted and inspected the cracks. My husband and I were told that all cement will crack and that this should not be a concern. We were also told, that the cement contractor would come out to repair these crack solely for cosmetics since the pool was so new. The cracks were never repaired despite numerous phone calls throughout the summer. Over the next several years, the cracks expanded, but very slowly, and they did not seem to be causing any problems. Although unbeknownst to us at the time, the cracking was a red flag of significant issues to come. During the latter part of the summer in 2013, we noticed that we were having to add water to our pool at least once a week even though we did not have an exceptionally dry summer. Around that same time, cracking began to appear in one of our acrylic steps. The crack appeared in the upper left corner of the lip of the step where the step meets the concrete. The crack was above water level and could not be attributed to the lowering water levels. After some investigation, we discovered that both of our skimmers were cracked. The cracks were in the bottom of both skimmers where the water intake to the piping is located. This was the reason for the lowering water levels. Sun Fun Pool Co. was contacted on 9-12-13. We spoke to Teresa, the office manager. We were told to take pictures of the cracked step and to bring them to the store and she would submit a claim to [redacted] to repair the step. We were also told that we could putty the cracks. This response to our problems was very alarming. After investing $25,464.00 into our pool, we were definitely planning on having it hold water and remain in working order for more than barely five years. In addition, we were certain that it was not a manufacturing issue with the skimmers, but more of a structural issue due to the two cracked skimmers and a cracked step. We felt that putty was not an appropriate solution. On 9-13-13, we delivered cracked step pictures to Sun Fun Pool Co. store and later we contacted Tim [redacted], owner. He said that he had never had anything like this happen before and he would stop by to look at the pool sometime on Friday, 9-13-13. He said he would then come back on Monday evening 9-16-13 at 7:00 pm. to meet with us and discuss a plan of action. At 8:15pm on 9-16-13, Tim called and said he would come out to meet with us on Tuesday 9-17-13. On Tuesday 9-17-13 Tim [redacted] came out to assess the issues with the cracking skimmers and step. Tim stated that the ground was settling and that the cement under the skimmers was pushing up on the bottom of the skimmers resulting in the cracking. Tim stated that this problem had never happened before and that Sun Fun Pool Co. would repair the pool at no cost due to the pool being so new. Tim said, This should have never happened. We were told by Tim that the concrete on the side of the pool where the skimmers are located would have to be taken out. The skimmers would be replaced and the concrete decking would be poured again. We were told that our repair would be the first job in the spring of 2014 and everything would be taken care of. On October 2, 2013, we received a call from Linda C[redacted] at [redacted] with a message to return the phone call. On October 3, 2013 Linda C[redacted] informed us that when the step repairman came out to repair the step, he was unable to do so because there was too much cement under the rim. We were told by Linda C[redacted] at [redacted], that the excess cement had caused the cracking and that the entire step would need to be replaced. Ms. C[redacted] said that she would contact the [redacted] sales representative for the area to contact Sun Fun Pool and inform them of the issue. Ms. C[redacted] said that she would keep us updated. We did not hear back from [redacted] so on October 18, 2013 we contacted them. We were told by Linda C[redacted] that [redacted] was having difficulty contacting Sun Fun Pool Co. and that [redacted] would continue to pursue a contact and get back to us. On October 23, 2013 we were contacted by Ms. C[redacted]. She informed us that [redacted] had been in contact with Sun Fun Pool Co. and had communicated the problem with the cracked step to Tim [redacted]. Ms. C[redacted] said that our cracked step was put on the repair list for the spring of 2014 and that at that time Sun Fun Pool Co., [redacted] and the skimmer manufacturer would get together to assess the issues and figure out how to proceed with repair and replacement. When we were not contacted by Sun Fun Pool Co. in the spring of 2014, on April 1, 2014, we began attempting daily to contact Tim [redacted] on his cell phone to get a projected date for the repair and to inquire about the step repair/replacement and the skimmers. We were never able to contact Tim directly or leave a message; the mailbox was full. On April 9th, we called the Sun Fun Pool Co. store and spoke with Teresa. We asked that Tim [redacted] please contact us regarding the repair. Teresa assured us that she would give Tim the message. We received no return call. On April 11, 2014, we called the Sun Fun Pool Co. store and spoke with Teresa again. We were told that Tim [redacted] would be calling us that evening. Again we were not contacted. On April 16, 2014 we contacted Sun Fun Pool Co. store and again spoke with Teresa. She told us that she had talk to Tim and Sun Fun Pool Co. was planning to begin the repair the week of 4-21-14. We were also told to contact [redacted] ourselves to arrange for the step to be repaired/replaced. We contacted [redacted] on 4-16-14Desired Settlement: The cement decking on the side of the pool where the skimmers are located needs to be removed. Both skimmers need to be removed and replaced. The cracked acrylic step needs to be removed and replaced and new concrete decking needs to be poured. The cement decking needs to be treated cosmetically so as to blend the older cement with the newly poured cement. We expect this to be completed promptly to avoid further damage due to the structural defect. Expenses to be absorbed by Sun Fun Pool.

Response:

From: Tim [redacted] Sent: Wednesday, January 14, 2015 2:28 PMTo: Kelly MaceSubject: Complaint received from [redacted] (Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc.)This is in response to the complaint received by Heather [redacted] from the Revdex.com. Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc. was contracted to build an in ground vinyl liner pool in the spring of 2008.The site of the pool construction site was layed out by Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc. and the [redacted]. The site of the pool would be out of the ground 24". In pouring the concrete deck around the pool we used 6x6 concrete wire through out the pour. On the side of the pool that had the 24" fill dirt we bored holes 3' apart to solid ground and installed1/2 " rebar in every hole which are called piers. Now after building pools and doing concrete work for 27 years there is one thing I do guarantee is no matter where you install your expansion joints in concrete, concrete is going to crack, whether it is in your expansions joints or in between your joints. The cracks that came from the edge and by the skimmer of the [redacted] concrete did not cause the problem of the skimmers or the steps. In spring of 2013 it was the wettest spring & summer in many years. Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc received numerous calls of liners floating, fiberglass pools were floating out of the ground, even cases of concrete pools moving and shifting. For 5 years the [redacted] did not have any complaints with our work. The rain that spring caused a lot of damage to not only pools, but foundations of homes etc. Sun Fun guarantees our work for one year, equipment 3 years. The Quaker step that has cracked is a Cardinal problem that the [redacted] can handle with the manufactuer. Cardinal had a problem with the step support coming unglued from the tread, which they handled very professionally. I still use Cardinal steps and am a builder of their panels. The putty we used in the skimmer is a two part epoxy that was used to repair concrete, tiles on granite pools. In the spring of 2014 the [redacted] opened their pool, the pool motor would not run. The [redacted] called the pool store, we made a service call on the pump, the motor was burnt up because of pine needles in the impellar causing poor circulation. Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc. replaced the motor, seal, & labor at no charge to the [redacted]. Plus cleaning of the pool. In the fall Mrs [redacted] bought a Polaris wall connector for her cleaner and was instructed by Timmy on how to install it. Mrs [redacted] later called the pool store and requested Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc to a service call to come install the Polaris part cause Mrs.[redacted] could not install herself. Timmy went out and installed a return face plate that she had removed and the Polaris wall fitting, replaced the motor and never billed the [redacted]. Mrs. [redacted] did call numerous times over and over about her concrete, My concrete guy which has been doing my concrete work for years and also done the [redacted] has looked at the cracked concrete deck at the [redacted] and stated 4000 PSI w/ fiber, 6x6 concrete wire in pour, piers 3' apart to solid ground 1/2 rebar drove into the pier to solid ground there was no more he could do. After 5 years with no complaints, I feel good about the construction of the pool Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc. built for the [redacted]. My Only regret is that I didn't respond to the letter from Revdex.com after receiving the complaint. Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc. dropped from an A to an F grade with the Revdex.com just because I didn't respond to the complaint. So Unfair. After 36 years of being in business I guess dealing with a complaint is not so bad.Sun Fun Pool Co, Inc.117 East Broad St.Statesville, N.C. 28277(704)8732321
