Sun Mountain, Inc. Reviews (12)

Several months ago, Mr*** contact** Sun Mountain via phone, and had a conversation with our sales representative regarding Sun Mountain products and qualityDuring this conversation, the sales representative discussed Sun Mountain's factory in Colorado, and the high quality of our
manufactured productsAbout two weeks later, Mr*** ordered several doors from Sun Mountain, through this same sales representativeThe doors were Pine wood speciesSun Mountain typically purchases Pine doors from another manufacturer, that builds a higher quality Pine product at a cheaper price than Sun Mountain can produceMr*** placed an order with Sun Mountain, and we sold Mr*** these Pine doors, manufactured by a third partyWhen the order was placed, the sales representative did not make the connection with the previous phone conversation with Mr*** about our high quality manufactured productsThe sales representative did not intentionally deceive Mr*** regarding the quality of the doors, but clearly did not disclose to Mr*** that the doors we sold where purchased by us from another manufacturer.Mr*** pre-paid for the doors in full via credit card prior to delivery, a total of just over $2,This was according to the terms of our order and agreement on the doorsAfter Mr*** received the product and install** the majority of the doors in the home, he revers** his credit card payment to Sun Mountain. At this time, have collect** no payment from Mr*** for the doorsWe have been in conversation with Mr*** for some time regarding the collection of the funds owedInitially when these collection efforts began, Mr*** offered to pay just over 60% of the agre** upon price for the doors, specifically $1,We declined this settlement offer at the time, because we did not fully understand his dispute regarding the products we sold.Ultimately in our collection efforts, a few weeks ago Mr*** presented an e-mail to us wherein he provided pricing he claimed he could obtain for the same Pine doors, from the same manufacturer we purchased fromHe did not provide us an official price quote or documentation from the provider of these doors, but just document** the pricing verbally in an e-mailAt that time, using Mr***'s pricing we offered a settlement for the doors for just over $1,Mr*** refused to pay this, and offer** instead a $settlement for the entire orderWe refus** this unreasonable offer. So at this point, we are willing to reach a reasonable settlement with Mr*** regarding the Pine doors we purchased from another manufacturer and re-sold to Mr***He has install** the majority of these doors in his home, but has not paid us anything at all for the doorsWe are even willing to settle for the pricing Mr*** claims he could have paid for the same exact doors from the same manufacturerHowever, Mr*** is unreasonable with us and apparently feels that he should receive the doors for only $200, or for freeThus, we are filing a law suit today against Mr***The action will be presented to him later today, and we will have to settle this in court

Again, we agree that there is a dispute regarding the doors suppli**, but we have offer** a settlement to Mr*** equal to his own price quote for buying these same doors from another supplier (approximately $1,600, an $write-off from our original order from him)We believe this is fair to Mr*** and will bring this issue to an equitable closeBecause he has refus** this settlement offer, and desires to only pay $for the doors, Sun Mountain has fil** a small claims law suit against Mr*** to attempt to collect at least some funds for the doors he has receiv** from Sun MountainThe law suit is ***

Sun Mountain did our front doors, which were great quality but the sales person coordinating the job was unprofessional and rude. The VP got involved and apologized for the sales person's attitude. We decided to try them again because the doors were good quality. The VP set up another sales person to coordinate the job. We arranged an appointment in mid morning( to avoid traffic for the sales person) for two large doors(front and oversized patio). The sales person cancelled the day of due to weather...very minimal snow, but cold. However, all business, schools and hospitals were open, and our other sub contractors were still able to still arrive on time to the job. We reached out to the VP to let him know another disappointment by his sales staff. VP was cordial by the statement, "thank you for thinking of us" but no attempt to rectify the situation. Overall, nice doors, but plenty of other companies to deliver nice doors AND outstanding service, especially at the price spent for nice custom doors. It is worth the time to look around for a better caliber of service.

Please find below email that I received from my attorney which relays a message left by Thad with Sun Mountain where he fabricates a discussion prior to my purchase that never took place. The only exchange that did take place was in the email thread with [redacted] Gruignard that I have already submitted. I paid my lawyer standard rates to deal with this and other false accusations and bad faith conduct which Sun Mountain has engaged in throughout the course of this ordeal.Regards,[redacted]On Tuesday, March 18, 2014 3:00 PM, Anne XXXXXX <[email protected]> wrote:[redacted],I did receive a message from Thad with Sun Mountain.  He left a lengthy message and was so fluster** and angry that he left an incorrect initially telephone number.  I did return his telephone call to inquire about obtaining a copy of a "sign** contract" that he referenced and I left a message for him to simply return my telephone call but have not heard back as of yet.In his message, he acknowl**g** that there was a discussion regarding the higher quality non-[redacted].  These non-[redacted] were 1 3/4 inch and were approximately $600-$700 per door.  He indicated that you specifically want** a 1 3/8 inch door and although he understood you didn't want the [redacted] that you "were box** in" a less expensive lower quality door to get a 1 3/8 door.

I am rejecting this response because:
** is one of many faces Sun Mountain. It could very well be true that ed never tried to abuse or deceive me and that he decided to initially respond without first understanding the situation while naturally leveraging his misunderstanding to Sun Mountain's advantage. The sales person that lied about the manufacture and quality of the doors was [redacted] in sales, as can be seen in the email referenced previously. The person that called my attorney in a rage and did make abusive statements was Thad Walton, the VP of Sales (his position is according to online information).  The consumer protection laws don't offer leniency in cases where the sales department is the only entity within a company that engages in bad faith conduct.

As the first reviewer, we too have had a very negative experience with "Sun Mountain Doors".
We recently built a home, using exclusively doors made by Sun Mountain. I will say, the doors are beautiful, but they also came with a hefty price tag. Thinking this was a fine crafted product, we were more than willing to pay the price. But as soon as the doors began to be installed, we knew we were in trouble.
Our first concern was the windowed, double doors, in the master bedroom. From the very onset they didn't fit properly and were incredibly hard to open. Our builder sanded, planed, and tried several times to correct the situation, but without success.
Sun Mountain sent out a regional manager which at the time made us feel quite hopeful that these doors would soon work well ... but that hope was definitely short lived and turned out to be merely words.
During his visit, he blamed the difficulty of opening the doors on our architect and builder, because they had not built a sufficient over hang to protect the doors from moisture, thus causing them to warp. (He said nothing about miscalculations in door measurements, which was suspected) Plus, at that point in time, we were still in the construction phase and the doors were only a few weeks old and no rain had fallen and no warping had occurred, to our knowledge.
Then came the guest bathroom door ... it broke apart, shattering the embedded full length mirror on the interior side. Again, Sun Mountain was notified. We were told it was our fault, as our home didn't have enough humidity. Upon that suggestion, we installed a complete humidifying system. They did replace that door, but even after the humidity was in place, our other doors have needed to be repaired and repainted because of the same separation problem.
In the interim we were still dealing with our bedroom doors. After months of waiting, and having to have a major confrontation with the Colorado office, the regional manager came out again. This time he manipulated the doors somewhat, putting on the new $200.00 weather strip we purchased from Sun Mountain (the other had deteriorated after about six months) and then we were told that the weather had damaged the doors beyond hope. By that time we had learned the window recesses on each door "had never been factory sealed" and now the water had indeed seeped between the glass and wood, damaging the doors. But again this was not Sun Mountains responsibility .... it was our painters fault, because he should have sealed those internal crevasses (on all external doors) before painting.
We have barely lived in our home a year and our door saga continues. Sun Mountain has denied any responsibility and we are left to our own devises. But perhaps the worst part of all this, is the contemptuous demeanor of this company. After paying literally thousands and thousands of dollars for doors and then experiencing Sun Mountains questionable service, we have become very disillusioned with a company that at one time seemed to have the finest products available.

Our company has filed legal action against [redacted]. We do not need the Revdex.com to arbitrate our disagreement.** [redacted]

I disagree with Mr. [redacted]'s allegations against Sun Mountain. My previous e-mail states the facts as I understand them. I have never tried to deceive anyone or abuse Mr. [redacted]. We would just like to receive fair payment for the doors we've provid**. As stated before, we have filed a suit and will let the court decide the outcome of this dispute between Mr. [redacted] and Sun Mountain.

The following is a summary of the events that took place regarding this complaint, with attachments referenced where applicable. In August of 2013, I requested for quotations from Alpine Lumber and Northwestern supply by email (emails attached), for 7 interior doors and 1 interior residential fire door. Northwestern and Alpine are local suppliers that I have had a long business relationship and both stated that their quotes were for [redacted]. The attach** quote from Northwestern Supply lists 4 Clear Pine 2 panel shaker interior doors at $221.55 each, compared to Sun Mountain's price of $303.95 for Radiata(clear) Pine 2 Panel shaker doors and Northwest (quote attach**) has no shipping charges due to them being a local supplier. The fire door listed on the Northwestern Supply quote is a 2 panel shaker style, which is not comparable to the solid core flush fire door in the Sun Mountain quote. Alpine lumber gave a quote of $255 for a door equivalent to the $464 solid core flush birch fire door in Sun Mountains quote. Alpine lumber's quote was comparable to Northwestern Supplies.I made the purchase from Sun Mountain at the higher price based on [redacted]'s claim that Sun Mountain was selling me higher quality doors that were made in Colorado. Sun Mountain delivered the doors in partial shipments with that last shipment being 1 month late. The doors had many defects which took much effort to remove by sanding and the last 2 doors delivered had defects so severe that they could not be remov** (photos attached). After sending pictures of the defect to [redacted], he revealed that the doors were [redacted] after all, by mentioning that he would contact [redacted] and arrange for the defective doors to be replaced.Upon learning that Sun Mountain had li** to me in order to convince me to purchase the same doors at a higher price, I filed a dispute of charges with my credit card company in December of 2013, offering to pay Sun Mountain only what I would have paid to purchase the doors from Northwestern supply and Alpine Lumber. Sun Mountain refused this offer multiple times, told the credit card company that I had made the order by mistake and wanted to get out of paying, and then later filed a mechanics lean. I hir** and paid an attorney to help with removal of the mechanics lean and deal with Sun Mountain's continu** bad faith conduct. After the mechanics lean was finally removed, Sun Mountain continued their attack through a lawyer that they hired priming their attorney with the false information that I did not understand who the doors were manufactured by even though the email conversation with [redacted] had been provided to them on multiple occasions. Much time was required to bring their attorney up to speed on the real facts.Thank you for your consideration of this mater.Regards,[redacted]
