Sunguard Custom Painting Reviews (17)

I had noticed SunGuards signs in 2 yards in the neighborhood and on a Monday, [redacted] and [redacted] knocked on our door. [redacted] gave me a great price on the painting of my home and block wall and they power washed it right then. The fellows that did the actual work were wonderful; their attention to detail on the patch, prep and clean up was outstanding.
On the business end of things, [redacted] and [redacted] insisted that we gave them no money until we were completely satisfied with the job. We offered to give them 1/2 down before work started and they refused it. In the middle of the first day, Friday, with the job 50% complete, they wanted full payment. A credit card payment they had accepted the day before had not gone through the bank so they did not have any money to pay the guys for that job. I offered them half and they said no, it would be rude to take half. [redacted] asked me to think about it for 30 minutes and they left (and did not come back that day). In the beginning of the next day, with the job 60% complete, [redacted] again asked for full payment. I offered 75% and he said no, it would be rude to take partial payment. Then [redacted] got involved in the conversation. These fellows have NO BUSINESS SENSE whatever. My partner and I tried to convey to them that it is customary to pay 1/2 down, other 1/2 upon completion and our deal was full payment "when we were completely satisfied with the work". I wrote them a check for 75% and told them to go away. They both kept yammering about how sorry they were and this rarely happens and how rude it is to expect 2 checks. I finally told them to go and closed the door. About an hour later [redacted] came up to the door with a money envelope from a bank and our check. He went on and on about how there was money in the account so he did not cash the check and he was going to pay the guys now for the other job, all the while waving my check around. He said he did not want me to worry is I noticed on Monday that the check had not been cashed. I told him I gave him the check and I was done with it. I did not care what he did with it. Again, I had to tell him I was done with it and go away. I told him we had no issues with the work, just his business side of things. Also told him it was rude to harass us for 2 days for full payment when they refused 1/2 and then 3/4. I tried to school him in the ethics and processes of business, but instead of listening he just kept apologizing. I again told him to go and close the door. Making the final payment was not as painful to me. I only had to tell [redacted] 4 times to just sign the contract as Paid in Full and take the check. I made the mistake of mentioning that I did not find SunGuard on the Revdex.com site and even after I told him 3 times I did not need to see it called up on his phone, he called it up anyway.
PS. The lead of the workers told me that they try to pull this trick on many customers.
I will recommend their work crew any day!

Sunguard Custom Painting is excellent! Have used them twice and been so impressed with them from beginning to end. They have painted the entire exterior of our territorial style home, repairing the tops of all of our parapet walls beautifully, almost every interior room, and our entire exterior property walls. The 2 Walters, father and son, are professional, timely, efficient, extremely well priced and a joy to work with. They went above and beyond our expectations!

Sunguard Custom Paint was absolutely the best paint company I have ever done business with. I am a "Do It Your-selfer" and painted houses when I was a younger man. Walter and his team were Fast, Honest, Clean and did a Fantastic beautiful job at a reasonably fair price. I am not easy to please but I was really impressed with Sunguard Custom Paint and would recommend them to anyone.

We hired Sunguard to paint our house here in N Scottsdale in April 2015, They were on time very professional and they finished in 2 days, The owners of the company showed up after the crew was finished to inspect and approve the work, After their inspection the crew cleaned up everything, and the house and the trim look great, we could not be happier.

Great job

Thanks

Walter and his crew did a fantastic job! They were very professional and efficient with their time. They had to comply with our HOA (Desert Ridge) requirements and passed with flying colors. I would highly recommend this company.

I'd like to share my experience with Sunguard Custom Painting. They were painting a neighbors house and knocked on my door to offer their services for painting my house. As my home was in need of exterior paint I asked for an estimate. We walked the property and discussed what needed to be done and how they would do it. They provided me with an estimate which detailed the scope of the work with a total sum price provided. The quote was competitive, not the lowest (or highest) I had received but accompanied with the work description I felt that I knew what I was getting and the price was fair.

In short they were great to work with! They showed up when promised. Their workers were clean, polite, hard working and accommodating when it came to working around the landscape obstacles in our yard. They provided enough workers to accomplish the job in two days which was a surprise to me. They communicated to me what they were doing and the sequencing that I could expect. They provided excellent workmanship and they thoroughly cleaned up after the job was complete. The following day the business owner personally followed up and touched up a few minor imperfections which I had not even noticed.

As we had agreed upon we paid the full contract amount upon completion. I will call this company again if and when I have a painting need.

If you are looking for quality work done on time and on budget, I have just 4 words of advice: HIRE SUNGUARD CUSTOM PAINTING! They just completed painting the exterior of our 2,200 sq ft home, and I couldn't be more pleased with their work from start to finish. The owner himself and his son came to our house to give us an estimate, and the price quoted was more than competitive; they even honored a deal that we had seen [redacted]. They gave us a starting date, but when the recent rain delayed the project a few days, we were called promptly and a new day was scheduled. Their crew arrived on time the day they said they would there. They were obviously experienced and worked together like a well-oiled machine throughout the entire process: pressure washing, scraping, priming and caulking where needed, taping and masking, and then painting. Even though our house hadn't bee painted in 21 years, It only took them 2 days to complete the entire job, and the crew did a great job of cleaning up afterward. We were particularly pleased that the crew spoke English and gave us updates as the work progressed. As the job was finished, the owner and his son returned to inspect the work and to make sure we were satisfied. The completed project exceeded our expectations, and we couldn't be more pleased with Sunguard Custom Painting. Hire them; you will not regret it.

Review: Sunguard recently (with last two weeks) repainted our entire home exterior, including all trim and garden walls. The majority of the work was, to the best of our knowledge performed satisfactorily. The issue is workmanship on a set of wood french doors in the rear. The doors previously were painted with a gloss finish contrasting with the wall color. [redacted], one of the owners of Sunguard, convinced us that the current practice is to paint wood trim the same color as the house. We now believe that this advice was solely for the purpose of simplifying the work and lowering labor costs. However, that can be argued and is not the principal complaint.

The principal complaint is that we noticed in one spot that the new paint had flaked off exposing the original layer. We were concerned that over time this would happen to s greater extent. We researched the issue by speaking to staff at Dunn Edwards, who supplied the paint. We were told that the proper and acceptable technique for repainting our type of wood trim was to sand the surface to ruff the texture and, typically, repaint with a gloss finish wood paint. Sunguard had simply sprayed the trim with the same paint used for the stucco walls.

I raised this issue with [redacted] on Thursday March 5. He immediately became very aggressive. He said he was surprised I would raise such an issue. He said he thought I would be calling to see how his worker was doing, claiming he had broken a hand on our job. We had no knowledge of such an event and I think this was just a veiled threat of litigation. He then asked why we thought the work had been done wrong and I told him about Dunn Edwards. He then proceeded in a shout to describe the staff as completely lacking in knowledge. He did offer to repaint the spot, but denied the work had been done improperly. All in all, aggressive is an understatement of his tone and attitude.

My wife subsequently revisited Dunn Edwards and asked the same question of Sherwin Williams and a friend who works extensively with paint contractors. Every one stated that the correct and accepted procedure is to sand wood and refinish with wood paint, usually gloss. Definitely not just spay over with the same paint used on the stucco.

I did not call [redacted] back because given his very hostile response previously there seemed no point in doing so.Desired Settlement: We would like to have all wood trim on french doors and other doors sanded down and repainted with the correct type of paint in accordance with professional standards for high quality workmanship. We are will to pay for the paint as a concession to the possibility that we made a bad choice even though that was done base solely on [redacted]'s strong recommendation.

I will recommend their work crew any day!

We had our house painted just a few weeks ago by Sunguard and they did a tremendous job. We had some spots where pyrite had formed small rust spots and the did a great job of fixing it. They are incredibly professional and hard working. This is the second time we have had the pleasure of working with them over the last 7 years. They will always be our trusted resource for painting.

Just had [redacted]'s company, Sunguard, paint my house and they did an excellent job. His price was very good but the professionalism of he and his team were second to none. His guys prepped the house and now that it's done I don't see any over spray. They were very responsive and I could not recommend more than I do. In two days they prepped a 3400 sq. ft. house, patched several stucco areas that really needed it, primed and painted. Great job, [redacted]!

What an amazing company! These guys show up early, get the work done on time and do it right. I have an old home (1924) that REALLY needed to be repainted and that required some serious stucco repair. Not only did they submit a very competitive bid, they went above and beyond to make sure that the work was done well. I am so impressed with their professionalism and the quality of work. I can't say enough about [redacted], the gentleman who did most of the work at my home. He is a very skilled tradesman and honestly the type of guy you want working on your house. I have the utmost respect for him. Up until working with Sunguard I have had really negative experiences with contractors but these guys proved that you can still find great professionals to work on your home. Don't think twice about hiring them. You will be happy that you did!

We called Sunguard Painting to provide us with an estimate to paint the exterior of our large house. They came out the next day. Walter was very knowledgable and made some great suggestions. We agreed on the scope of work and the price and the painters came out bright and early the next day. Even though it was extremely hot the painters did an excellent job, worked tirelessly and completed the work in three days. The clean-up was spotless and the quality of the work fantastic. We highly recommend them andwould definitely use Sunguard again.

Sunguard painted the entire outside of my house.

Walter and his son, Walt were quick to respond and offered helpful information about color choices. The work their staff did was quick and professional. They did a great job at a good price.

George and the fellas came out and cleaned the place, fixed all the cracks, painted my whole home and completed a job well done. I would recommend him and his guys to anybody. thanks for all the help with my home project.- Jim

excellent work. commitment to customer satisfaction throughout company. Owners personally inspect work and make sure customer is happy. 1 year warranty on work and incredibly responsive even taking calls on a holiday!

I just had my home painted by Sunguard Custom Painting & they were awesome. Starting with the prep ( even masked the roof, then moved all chairs, outside decorations, etc.). When painting began the owner came to check up & had them change a few things which made a big difference. All in all they made this a great experience plus you pay at the finish not up front, so you know they do it right. I highly recommend Sunguard!
