Review: I started this account about 2010. Then I moved to Fond du lac, Wisconsin. When I moved to Fond du Lac. I called the bank to close the account. The tell told me she was more then happy to take care of it. I left her my name, account number. and a few other details. She proceed to tell me the account would be closed that night. At that time I had a Balance of 25 cents in the account. I after I told her she could "keep it". She said they would "probably send a check for the remainder on the account.". I decided this would be fine, and hung up the phone. Thinking this would be the last I herd from them, until I had gotten my 25 cent check via mail. a few weeks passed and the move came. Than I never received a check. figuring it got lost in the mail. I carried on with my life not thinking twice about it. Now today. I go to get a joint account with my boyfriend and they tell me. I cannot join his account because I have 426$ in overdraft fee. At sunset bank, a bank that until tonight I thought I was threw with. This is extremely unethical. Considering I called the bank AND I specifically was told this account was closed via phone and I need not come in. that they would mail me a check "or something" as the teller cleverly put it. and now I owe 426$ to a scam artist who racked up fee and never sent me a letter to let me know that account was still racking up fees.Desired Settlement: These fee's must be taken off my account, and the account must be closed. As agreed via phone.

I am in receipt of your letter dated November 11,2013 regarding a complaint submitted to you that was assigned an ID of [redacted]. I would first like to apologize for the misunderstanding and experience that Ms. [redacted] had. The complaint does not specifically say when she talked to someone at our institution to close the account and to who she specifically talked to regarding this matter.

In reviewing our records the account in question was active up through December 2012 and as of the end of the month had a balance of .39 cents. We have no record of the customer requesting an address change upon her move so the address of record on this account was still her address in Kewaskum. The account was covered under our overdraft protection program and on December 26 there was a charge of $77.09 that was charged to this account due to a web based payment that was made to US Cellular. Because her balance was not sufficient we covered the payment and used the overdraft program to cover the payment. Her January statement that was sent to her address in Kewaskum showed the activity on this account and showed that her account was overdrawn. Multiple notices were sent to her regarding the overdrawn account and request for sufficient funds to be put into the account. All of these notices were sent to the account on record which was the Kewaskum address. No notices were returned to us undeliverable. At this time we have reversed all of the overdraft fees related to this account and have closed the account. We so request that a payment to sunset Bank be made for the charge that hit the account on December 26, 2012 for $77.09. The collection amount has been revised to reflect only the $77.09 and upon receipt of payment for this amount we will remove the collection notice on the customer.
