Review: The company claimed in its online ad that "every car that we sell has been thoroughly inspected by us" and that their cars have met "all the rigorous requirements that we expect from every car." The car we purchased, a 2001 Toyota Celica GT, turned out to have a major oil problem. It loses a quart of oil every two days from just routine local, low mileage driving. We are still trying to figure out if it is a leak or if the car is burning oil because of problems in the engine and have spent hundreds of dollars on the problem so far. The purchase price was $4300. We realize that used cars in [redacted] are sold as is, and that we signed documents indicating same. However, it is clear that the company's ad is false advertising because they must have known, or should have known, that this car was not holding oil. The first time I checked the oil the next day, there was nothing on the dipstick. Also, the "check engine" light came on on our way home from the dealer, which they also are likely to have known about. My son, who is 16, spent nearly all of his savings to buy this car.

When I called the owner, he kept insisting that the car passed the [redacted] State Inspection and that this is what the ad was referring to. However, the ad says "thoroughly inspected by US," which implies more than just a safety inspection, and which we relied on, in addition to the safety inspection. Anyone reading the ad would infer that the dealer's own mechanics had looked this car over because it had met their "rigorous requirements", including being "thoroughly inspected." I asked that the owner either pay for any repairs related to the oil problem, or refund our money in exchange for us returning the car, and he refused.Desired Settlement: Either a refund for the car, including monies already spent on the oil issue, or pay for all oil problem repairs and we keep the car.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: The reason I signed the "no warranty, as is" document is that the dealer had advertised the car as "thoroughly inspected by us," which implies that the dealer also performed a review of all aspects of the car. The [redacted] State Inspection covers only safety features, not mechanical flaws. The dealer had to have known, if his mechanics inspected the car, that there was virtually no oil in it, and that the engine may have been compromised.

Regards,

I went to test drive a used car that this company had listed on my local Craigslist. The car was advertised as having no mechanical issues and with 106,000 miles. The car turned out to have many issues and over 123,000 miles. Not only did the car not match the condition and mileage that was advertised, it was downright unsafe. The power steering pump was not working correctly causing the steering to change weight as I drove. Also, the shifter [redacted] fell off while I was driving. When I parked, the emergency brake button flew off. Lastly, when I hit the brakes to stop the car, it barely slowed down. The brake was all the way to the floor, and the car was just gently slowing. To cap off the horrible experience, the person working there was rude when we told him that we did not want to buy the car because it was not anything like what the advertisement said. STAY AWAY!

Buyers beware, if you are looking to purchase a safe vehicle, expecting reasonable customer service "Sunshine Auto" is not the place for you! We purchased a used Jetta on 7-3-15, and learned through an independent car inspection the car had the following safety issues, left right wheel bearing and lower motor mount issues/ non-safety related: the oil pan was glued! We returned the car to the dealer for repairs on 7-20-15 and the dealer agreed to do the safety repairs. (Mind you the car was supposed to have been Maryland Inspected.) Fast forward- my husband called to check on the status after over a week or so and nothing was done. The owner Mr. B[redacted] said "they sold 11 cars and was busy". My husband sent additional emails and calls and finally on August 3rd; the owner responds and claims he told him the car was ready on 7-31-15. The car was picked up on 8-4-15 and on 8-9-15, four days later the tire and rim came completely off while my teenager was driving on the highway with my husband as a passenger. Fortunately, no one was hurt, my husband contacted Mr. B[redacted] on the same day and did not receive a response of kind until 1 month later. Many calls and emails were sent and messages was left with his business partner, the mechanic, you name it..and the response was always "he's out of the office". Interestingly, when Mr. B[redacted] finally responded he said that we could not prove that they were responsible and refused to reimburse us for the amount purchased for the car. Interestingly he agreed to replace the tire and wheel. On October 20th his business partner delivered the tags and brought the spare tire. Perhaps by December 2015 we will receive the rim. Please beware!

Review: Bought car from Sunshine Auto on or about 6/6/13. Aware of as is sale, but Sunshine Auto stated that Car was MD inspected, and the Co Website states that it conducts a multipoint inspection.

Same night battery died. Next day I was locked out of car, key given to me would not open doors, worked only on ignition. Took car to to Va. Safety Inspection, and it was discovered that lug nug from wheel was missing, and gas cap door would not open. Also, screw in tire, holding pressure at 15 lbs. but not at 30.

Sunshine state title would be mailed withing 2 weeks. As of today, 6 weeks later no title has been received- They also advised that I was covered under their insurance and no insurance was required by me. As such, I drove the car for 3-4 days without insurance coverage, exposing myself to financialDesired Settlement: Refund of out of pocket expenses of $600, delivery of title by certified mail, an apology, and a stop to preying on 18 year old female buyers as well as all other deceptive practices , to include the advertizing
