Sunteck Solar Screening

Screens improperly measured. Screens entirely too dark. When remeasured screens installed, many screws missing or not entirely screwed in.[redacted], an older owner of Sunteck came out to measure our windows. We have a two story house and it was difficult for the gentleman to move about the house; he had [redacted], my husband do some measuring per [redacted]' instructions. My husband picked the dark material as [redacted] showed him that "you can see through it." We now have to turn on lights in order to even read the paper. When the screens were installed many of the screws were not placed nor were many of the screws completely screwed in. We have fiberglass siding and the screens are screwed into the window frames. These screens will be extremely difficult to remove in order to allow the winter sun to enter the house from the south facing windows. Not explained thoroughly. Nor can the screens be removed from the south facing French doors.Desired SettlementReplace the screening with a lighter-colored material. The frames are already made and so are the holes from the screws.Business Response 0N 6/11/14 WE RECIEVED A CALL FROM ** IN RENO FOR AND ESTIMATE FOR SOLAR SCREENS ON HIS HOME. I RESPONDED AND SET AND APPOINTMENT.WHEN I ARRIVED MR.** WAS THERE BUT HIS WIFE WAS NOT. WE BOTH WENT OUTSIDE AND MEASURED HIS SCREENS THAT NEEDED PROTECTION.HE HAD TWO OUT SWING DOORS AND I EXPLAINED THAT WE COULD REMOVE THE OLD SCREENS AND RE ROLL SOLAR SCREENS IN THE DOORS AND HE AGREED.I GOT MY SAMPLES OUT AND EXPLAINED THE BENEFITS OF THE 90 GRID SCREENS.THE SCREENS WOULD STOP 90% OF THE HOT SUN FROM COMING INTO THE HOUSE AND REDUCE GLARE AND THEY ARE EASY TO SEE OUT OF BUT HARD TO SEE IN. HE LIKED THAT ASPECT OF THE SOLAR SCREENS.WE HAVE SEVERAL COLORS OF SCREENS AND SCREEN FRAMES.HE THEN CHOOSE THE SCREEN FRAME AND COLOR OF SCREEN COLOR. I WROTE UP AND ORDER AND HE SIGNED IT AND PAID 50% DOWN WITH HIS CREDIT CARD AND 50% DUE ON INSTALL. AT KNOW TIME WAS MRS.** WAS NOT PRESENT. WE SET AND INSTALL DATE ON 7/9/14. WE SENT OUT OUR INSTALLERS TO INSTALL.THE SCREENS WERE MEASURED FOR AND OUTSIDE MOUNT HOWEVER THE CAN BE MOUNTED ON THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME. THE INSTALLER DISCUSSED THIS WITH MR.** AND HE AGREED TO THE INSIDE MOUNT BECAUSE OF THE HIGH WINDS.INSIDE MOUNT INCLUDES DRILL INTO FRAME AND INSTALL PAN HEAD SCREWS THRU THE FRAME INTO THE OUTER RIM OF THE WINDOW FRAME WHICH DOES NOT AFFECT THE WINDOW. THE JOB WAS COMPLETED EXCEPT THE INSTALLER MISSED INSTALLING A FEW SCREWS BECAUSE WE HAD TO PULL OFF JOB BECAUSE OF HIGH WINDS AND TORRENTIAL RAIN.ON MONDAY MR.** CALLED ME AND WANTED ME TO COME OUT CHECK THE JOB WHICH I DID THE SAME DAY.A CHECK OF THE JOB SHOWED THE MISSING SCREWS AND I SENT THE INSTALLER OUT THE NEXT DAY AND PUT IN THE MISSING SCREWS.HE THEN TOOK ME IN THE HOUSE TO SHOW ME HOW DARK IT WAS. HIS WIFE WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW DARK IT WAS.THEY HAD BIG HEAVY DRAPES COVERING THE WINDOWS!I TOLD HIM TO OPEN UP THE DRAPES. WE HAVE SERVICED THIS JOB AND IT LOOKS GREAT. I PROPOSED THAT IF MRS.** IS NOT HAPPY WITH HER HUSBANDS SELECTION OF HOME IMPROVEMENTS THAT NEXT TIME SHE BE PRESENT WHEN CONTRACTS ARE SIGNED AND SELECTIONS ARE MADE. SINCERELY RUSSELL SMITHConsumer Response Mr [redacted] may choose to have the Mr and Mrs available for future business dealings with a high expenditure. Mr [redacted] is being very condescending. The round window screen in front of the house, that Mr [redacted] stated was not installed satisfactorily, still has not been replaced. I will not recommend SunTeck. The drapes are not heavy drapes; they are of a linen -type material with no backing.Final Business Response IN RESPONSE TO MRS. C COMPLAINT SUNTECK WILL BE HAPPY TO REORDER A NEW SCREEN AND INSTALL IT. IF THEY WILL CALL THE OFFICE AND SCHEDULE A TIME SO WE CAN GET ON THE ROOF AND TAKE DOWN THE EXISTING SCREEN AND ORDER A NEW ONE. THANK YOU
