Superior Hood and Duct Reviews (1)

On Monday August 5th, they sent a man out to clean our hood and fan on the snack bar exhaust fan.In his process of pressure cleaning he set of our ansol system that puts out grease fires.I called chris who came out to bid on the job and asked him is he going to charge the system. He said no that I would have to call our man to do it.I called all florida fire prevention, inc. who does our semi-annual inspection on the system. I got the bill which I had to pay of $810.00. I called chris and sent him the bill but he refused to pay, saying that the link was not attached right. I said why didn't his worker notify you or me first.[redacted] then said he would give me $200.00 take it or leave it.I said why should I be out $810.00 I contracted you to do a job that we have had done many times in 54 years in business and never had anyone set of the system. As it was we lost 4 hours of business, and we had to clean up the mess, since his worker left it like it was.Desired SettlementI want $810.00 for the bill I had to pay to get our snack bar up and running. We probably lost $150.00 in business since I told [redacted] the snack bar was to open by 9am.We finally opened at 1pm, after lunch.Business Response We were asked to clean the kitchen hood and duct system.A visual appearance of the ansol system appeared to be in working order. As we pressured cleaned the inside of the duct system, the ansol (fire suppression wire) that should have a tight fit to hold it in place was apparently loose. The function of the fire company is to make sure their system is installed properly. This happens from the running of the fan motor and should be inspected by the fire company. Our job was to clean the system, not to inspect someone else's responsibility. During the spraying of the water from our pressure washer it was not noticed that the wire was loose from the continued operation of the fan motor. The pressure washer creates water and steam which causes low visibility.During the pressure washing operation the fire suppression wire came off from its fittings causing the system to operate the way it should in case of fire. This unfortunate situation should be addressed to the fire suppression company Final Consumer Response The person doing the work had been scraping and pulling grease down for about a half hour before he started pressure cleaning. He could have pulled on the conduit which pulled out of clamp. [redacted] from All florida Fire Prevention had been here the month before and had tested the equipment and hydro-tested the tank. It was fine then he said. The worker should have said it was loose when he was scraping the grease. He could have told his boss [redacted] or told me.He did not. On video tape you can see he was talking to our snack bar manager [redacted] with the pressure cleaner in one hand and the vacuum in the other.Within a minute he set the system off.It was negligence on his part. Also on the video he is walking on our grill that we cook on. My complaint is he was not equipped to do the job since he had no tools to take off the motor which on the contract said he we would do to clean the fan and to clean the hood going to the roof. He had a 6 foot ladder which our roof is 20 feet high. There was no way he could have done the job correctly.I gave him our 20 foot ladder to get on the roof his 1st remark was that was too high. Then after he went on the roof he said there was very little grease and had no tools to take off fan.I have pictures of the fan and hood which shows it is full of grease. I have been manager of verdes Tropicana for 33 years and have seen this work done many times. The companies that have done the cleaning before have always sent 2 men to do the job. When I told the man that came he said he was told there were some filters to clean. We clean the filters weekly. He also said he does 50 jobs a day which is a joke. It usually takes 2 men 3 to 4 hours to do the job correctly. My point is this man that Superior sent was not qualified and the company should have sent 2 men,1 to pressure clean and scrap and one to wet vacuum. I told [redacted] I needed the snack bar open at 9am.With one man there was no way it could have been done. [redacted] is taking this man's word about the piping without ever inspecting it or coming out to at least talk to me and see for himself. His company should have insurance for these kind of accidents and should have instructed his employee to inspect for any possible problems and report them if he thinks there is a possibility of setting off system.I did nothing wrong and should not be out $810.00 for his mistake, plus 4 hours of business. To top it off he left without cleaning up the mess.He was supposed to [redacted] and put things back, instead he left and myself and my mechanic had to clean up the mess. I have filed a complaint with the attorney general and the dept of consumer services since he had not responded to the Revdex.com in 30 days. I also will take him to small claims court if I don't get any satisfaction.I want to be reimbursed for the money out of pocket.I would also like to know if the man he sent out was qualified to do this work since it was supposed to be up to code.I still need to hire someone to do the job since it was not finished. Sincerely, [redacted] general manager
