rental homeIt was an addition to the existing pitch roofWhat I noticed before we began the roof job was that the shingle pitch roof to the original house that was connected to the flat roof, had storm damage shingles and was very old. I have pictures of the old roof with the transition to the flat roofAfter we tore off the old shingle roof from the flat roofWe found decking and 2xjoists that needed to be replacedI called ***, the owner of the rental property, and asked him that the rotted wood needed to be replaced. I took pictures and sent them to his phoneHe later called me back and stated to go ahead and replace themJohn did not want to pay for it, of course notHe asked me to help him outSo I did.I did not charge him for material and laborWe replaced the rotted 2xand decking and proceeded to install the roll roofing. He insisted on having pictures sent to his cell phone as we progressedSo I sent him pictures as we installed the roofWe finished the job in daysIt came out perfectBefore we left he asked me to do some extra minor work on the old beat up roof. Again, *** wouldn't pay for the extra workSo we caulked around a skylight on the primary shingle roof because he believed it may leakAbout weeks later he calls me and leaves me a nasty messageHe stated in the message that the roof we installed was leakingHe said I did him wrong and that I need to get over to the rental house right away and fix itI took his message seriously and got to the house the same dayThe first thing he says when we met at the property is that he got a roofer to check our work and that the roofer said we installed it wrongI asked him if I can meet with the roofer*** said noI asked him if I could go inside the house to see where the leaks were atHe said noHe told me that there was no reason for me to see the ceilingWe did get up on the roof and he showed me where his roofer claimed the water was coming in from. I noticed a shingle that was lifted and bended which caused it to break the seal.(i have pictures of it) Which is above the new installed flat roofI told him that the new roof is not leaking at all, (30x30) The old shingle roof with the pitch above it was verry old and that he may have to replace itAt least the back part shingle roofing with the pitch to stop the leaks that are going underneath the new roofI recommended that he should try to open an insurance claim due to the heavy storm damage the roof hadAnd that the roof was at least years oldIt was time to replace it*** said noHe wanted me to fix itSo I told him it would cost him $to $dollars to replace itI knew he did not want to pay to replace the complete roof But *** did not listenHe kept insisting for me to caulk and seal feet of old shingles above the new roof to stop the leakI went by times to check and see where it could be leakingNot one time did I have access to the house to see the damageTwice I caulked the old shinlglsHe never paid me for the additional work we did. I do believe *** finally took my advice and hired some roofer to replace the back part of the roof to stop the leakI don't believe I've ever met anyone like *** that asked for so much free workI will be sending *** an invoice for all the additional work we did and the times we went out to this property to seal the old damaged shingles that should have been replaced and paid by *** years agoI believe *** does not have a valid complaint against my company.
