Review: We contacted Sure Fire to complete a whole home HVAC replacement for our completely remodeled home in early July. We were sent a contract by [redacted] and at that time he and I had a phone conversation in which he told me that given adequate notice, they would be able to complete installing our whole HVAC system in two weeks.

We spoke with [redacted] in late July to schedule us for the second week of August to have the HVAC installed. We were given a verbal guarantee that it was a "two week job, no problem". He also stated that the second week of August would work with them, and that they would "get us on the schedule." Over the next 8 and 1/2 weeks many promises and guarantees were made by [redacted] and [redacted] that our home would be completed by this date, then broke that promise and pushed our HVAC off another week again and again. Often, Sure Fire's technician was only at our home for less than 6 hours in one day, once per week.

In no way is this an acceptable way to conduct business. If it weren't for me calling the business multiple times, and calling [redacted]'s cell phone multiple times we, the consumer, would have never received any communication on a time-frame for completion of our home.

To add insult to injury, when installing the ventilation for the furnace, technicians [redacted] and [redacted] gouged out a 12" by 19" hole in our stone foundation. Technician [redacted] verbally told me, "Well, your husband will just have to fill it in now. We put insulation in there so no critters get in". The fact that the other technician, [redacted], stated that he spent 6 hours smashing through my foundation is a clear indication of the lack of respect for the customer.Desired Settlement: We desire as a resolution a few things:

--First a complete, itemized listing of all materials used and detail of time and labor for each technician.

--Second, from that list, my husband and I agree to only pay the manufacturer's cost of materials used, and 1/4 of the overall labor charge. We desire to only pay 1/4 of the total labor as we were guaranteed on multiple occasions that this was a "two week job" and it took 8 and 1/2 weeks.

--Lastly, we require that Sure Fire hire a certified mason to fix the damage to our foundation which they caused. We require that the cement used match the existing masonry, and but for the vent pipes, appear as though there was no damage to begin with inside and out.

Review: I purchased as usual the Gold Service Plan for my furnace for $150. This includes a furnace tune up and quick service for a year if something goes wrong. They came for the tune up and said it fail the heat exchanger pressure test so they would no longer service my furnace. So when I asked what happens with the tune up and a year worth of service I've been told I would get it only if I purchased a new furnace from them. I paid for service on my present furnace not some new one.Desired Settlement: Some refund

At Sure-Fire Inc. we take great pride in our customer service; we are constantly aiming for perfection in customer satisfaction. One way we do this is by offering full coverage maintenance plans. Our prepaid maintenance plans are very popular with our customers, and help us provide a high level of service to the hundreds of customers that take advantage of them year after year. The equipment at the [redacted] residence has been under our Gold Plan contract since 1990, with Mr. [redacted] Jr. taking the plan over in 2009 from his father. These prepaid contracts have always been transferrable to a new owner; however they are non-refundable, as stated on our maintenance contracts. Plans like our Gold Plan allow us to keep a piece of equipment running smooth for a long time, also giving our customers piece of mind that if something goes wrong, we are there right away to take care of them.

While performing the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance this fall, we had found the heat exchanger had failed. With the furnace in the residence having a failed heat exchanger, being a potentially dangerous situation, we have no choice other than recommend a new furnace be installed. The heat exchanger for the equipment is not available anymore on a 25 year old furnace. The warranty from Lennox, like most brands, is a limited lifetime heat exchanger warranty to the original homeowner, and 20 years from date of installation to the next homeowner. If a heat exchanger had been available, and if the furnace was still under the manufacturer’s warranty, we would have replaced it at no cost under the contract. When situations arise where a piece of equipment needs to be replaced while under contract, the contract is extended to cover the new equipment after the manufacturer warranty expires. This contract is then grandfathered to the new equipment at the old contract price, a savings in [redacted] case of close to 10 percent. The piece of equipment had been well maintained from the date of installation, allowing it to provide a high level of comfort, safely, at a low cost of operation for many years. We responded with pricing on a replacement furnace promptly and Mr. [redacted] evidently decided not to use our Company. We regret to lose him as a customer and hopefully someday he will realize he was treated fairly.
