Lack of Communication
•I described to *** what I wanted, and provided a diagram, but the work was not done to my specifications; thus, I had to hire yet another plumber for a cost of $150.00 to fix what the first plumber didn’t do according to my specifications.
•He billed me for $2200.00 for half the labor and half the materials; then he went to Florida for five days—Thursday through Wednesday. Apparently, I bank-rolled his beach vacation.
•*** plays a conversational type of the shell game. If I say, I am disappointed with the placement of the pipe that should have been moved, he says, it wasn’t his fault the pipe broke and flooded the basement (which precipitated the remodel in the first place).

Poor Listening Skills
I told *** from the first meeting that I was not interested in doing the floor or the ceiling, but he still showed up on a Saturday morning with floor samples. He gave a bid of 15 to $17,000.

Nothing was done correctly the first time:
The plumbing had to be moved twice.
The electrician didn’t place the boxes flush with the ceiling so they could be used.
The fake beam *** placed is falling off the ceiling. Nor did he measure it correctly; it’s three inches too short!
One side of the counter is one inch shorter than the other side so the counter-top has to be shimmed.
Nothing was measured correctly.

Our very first face to face meeting would have been at her home with her brother, sister-in-law and mother. At no point at the meeting or ever did she providea sketch, stamped drawings and/or of measurements on how to layout the bar area and open a wall with plumbing drains, electrical outlets, switches - - there again no electrical plan/ design or no plumbing plans with designs were provided. She explained that a 2 inch line backup started the problem. She wanted to open up the basement kitchen to allow more light thru the area, remove cabinets, build a bar area, relocate plumbing and electrical. She initially wanted flooring throughout the basement, ceilings and lighting redone.I left the first meeting in order to prepare some sort of an estimate - she was told that I charge $30 per man hour plus materials for my part and I would subcontract out the electrical and plumbing portions. I gave her some of my suggestions on how to avoid redoing the entire ceiling - she initially had a very ambitious plan. We revisited the project to get floor measurements and just an estimate of the cost of materials she was hoping to use - I told her just the flooring material could cost $3,500 and the complete project she was hoping for could cost her $15,000-$20,000.On January 25th I sent her a text on charges (at this time she did not provide any funds) Tuesday January 28th she wanted to continue with the project on a much smaller scale - again still no drawings provided. The same Thursday January 30th - Much more information is going to follow. The initial check was $2,200 to begin the work. AT that time the estimates for the subcontracts electrician and the plumber were $750-$1,200 eachI sent them both photographs of the basement wall with the utilities in the wall still - I was responsible for all the rest of the demo, framing the wall, gathering materials and making sure the subs did what I was verbally asked to do which was to open up the wall as much as possible and allowing room to relocate and making everything still useable. I would be glad to meet with you in person. I will be sending you photographs, text messages with correspondence back in fourth. I tried to inform her constantly of the process. A couple other things We had a funeral of an uncle in Wisconsinwhich we drove to. That was provided in detail including the obituary and dates and it was decided it would be better to start after returning. Late January and early February, After returning from Wisconsin the weather was a bit uncooperative and to avoid going in and out, rain, snow we ended up starting in the middle of February I was issued a check number *** for $2,200 for me to get materials and the subcontractor work. We sat at her kitchen table as I explained the invoice. Which I am providing you a copy.Plus many other copies. Please feel free to call or text me any time and I will be glad to sit down with you. I tried to be as helpful and understanding of her situation but she had asked me to leave so I left. She was refunded any unused deposit money and refunded for and accidental broken basement sink spout. I do not owe her $370.42. I have fulfilled my obligations and so have any of the subcontractor utility companies.

Another piece of information we did go to Florida to visit my wife's Dad (who we hadn't seen in over a year) in Saint Cloud Florida, south Orlando (no where near a beach) - We had the tickets purchased that departed from Kansas City International on Early Saturday February 22nd and we returned on Monday February 24th in the evening - we had these tickets way in advance of ever meeting Ms ***. So spreading verbal and written lies about a woman or a man's business and livelihood can be and should be taken vary seriously. She did and does not want to pay for services required at a normal construction pay scale. I was being understanding and helpful to her situation to the best of our abilities - again let me know you are receiving these emails - if you require hard copies I can provide that as well.

I stand 100 percent behind my statements. The customer signed a check with full understanding of the expected cost to do a partial smaller or scaled back scope of work that would have to be done in phases. Then the customer wanted me to work for $5 per man hour or less or dictate what the value of my time is. I told her I was not under the impression I was suppose to donate my time to her project. I made many (several trips)and worked every hour she was billed for. She asked me to leave and she did not want to proceed with the project. I picked up my tools as she requested.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: it isn't accurate: 1) I contacted *** to knock down a wall; it was his idea to do the floor and the ceiling. I stated repeatedly that I wasn't interested in doing the floor. He simply tried to upsell the job. 2) There were never any estimates from the plumber or the electrician until after the work was done. 3) *** took my money and went to Florida for five days; he never informed me of this trip until after he had my money even though I had told him I wanted the job done quickly. 4) He didn't pack up his tools; I did it for him. He stored them at my house for three weeks. 5) There is a diagram which I used to discuss with *** what I wanted done. 6) All the work was done improperly--the fake beam he put on the ceiling is falling down, the framing he did isn't level, the plumber didn't move the pipe according to the diagram, the electrician didn't put light boxes so lights could actually be affixed to them. Finally, *** brought people into my home who didn't have permission to be there. When I spoke to the the owner of the plumbing company, he informed me that I had paid for a master plumber and an intern and that after he gave *** the bill, *** "padded" it. 7) The "invoice" he finally gave me is not accurate; he overcharged for time and material.

In short, *** owes me $370.47.

Regards
