Customers were offered no other choice but to take on the seed money to pay for the Accelerator Program: Our program offers companies the opportunity to pitch for seed investment to help launch their business. Many companies are unable to cover the cost of our program up front so they were...

given the option of paying our cost after the program – using part of the seed money invested in their company if they received investment. Not all companies took the investment money and not all companies paid program costs out of that initial investment. This was an option to help make our services more accessible but was by no means obligatory.
Once a company committed to the program, it was stuck with whatever amount of funding was offered at the rate and timeline SVTG offered it: SVTG does not invest money in companies. We gave our companies the opportunity to present in front of a panel of outside investors and the investors and the companies struck their own terms. Some companies negotiated for better terms and some did not. As with any service, once a company received our service, they were committed to paying but they were not committed to accepting any investment money. The private investors – not part of SVTG – chose what amount of money they wanted to invest and what terms they were willing to give.
The volunteer board mentors had their own agenda and expected a return for being on the board: SVTG finds experienced entrepreneurs to help foster newer ones. We do not have a budget to pay these mentors and though some people are willing to help for the sake of helping, some hope to receive something out of the deal even if it is just networking. We did not require our students to enter into contracts with these mentors nor did we guarantee the quality of the result of such a partnership. These mentors were contracted to offer advice and experience. Any additional services they offered to sell to our clients were outside of the purview of SVTG and undertaken as a separate contract between the company and the consultant.
Pay-it-forward model: Our Accelerator has undergone some changes since this customer’s experience. We did recently offer a scholarship to two of our customers on a pay-it-forward model. This arrangement was made in advance since we no longer offer the pay-after-investment model being discussed here. Our customers this year either paid the full amount up front, worked out an individual payment plan, or qualified for a pay-it-forward scholarship. This does not represent a change in our pricing model nor qualify past participants for a refund.
Cut off from professional considerations and courtesies: SVTG’s program is a 12-week program followed by continued networking and support in the form of social media, newsletter attention, and invitations to events. Our prior Executive Director also offered one-on-one mentoring if requested that was not part of the 12-week program paid for but rather a free service she took on as a qualified consultant. Once she left the position, the new program manager who was not a qualified consultant, continued to offer support to all the graduates of the program in providing newsletter attention, mentions on social media, support with fundraising efforts, and availability to help connect the companies to resources when requested. This customer did not request support from the new program manager and instead tried repeatedly to contact the volunteer board. He received no response from this quarter as the board was only meant to offer their services for the 12-weeks of the program and is no longer affiliated with SVTG as it has been months since their involvement. After expressing his dissatisfaction with this level of support via an e-mail chain, he declined, on multiple occasions, to arrange an in person meeting to address his concerns and instead limited communications to e-mail. This client has made it clear that he is no longer interested in communications with us unless they come with a cash investment in his company which is an unreasonable request from our non-profit organization that does not currently make investments.

Every response presented is untrue. Most specifically:"Not all companies took the investment money and not all companies paid program costs out of that initial investment. This was an option to help make our services more accessible but was by no means obligatory."
We had no choice but to pay for the program in order to receive the funds.
We were not told the terms of the loans and had no other choice but to take on the debt to pay for said program.
The reason I have refused a face-to-face meeting is because I want our communications documented.
I have not interest in you money as investors. I want our money back that we wasted and has cost us thousands of dollars.
You specifically courted your past board members with the opportunity to take our investment money. The system set up my SVTG is self-serving to itself and noard members.
We were taken advantage of.
Please return my $2,500

Sincerely,[redacted]
