I brought one item to be dry cleaned at Swanson's Cleaners in Davis, CA roughly two weeks ago. When dropping the item, I asked for a price quote. I was told I couldn't be given a price until I received the item back upon pick-up. I believed this to be strange, not only because I had never brought an item to a dry cleaners without a price quote upon drop-off, but also because I believe the practice of rendering an item for services without being given a price quote to be illegal. One week later, upon return for pick-up, I was quoted the price of $55 for the dry cleaning of one item. I was told I would need this amount "as a deposit" before receiving my item back. As I could not afford this, I asked for the item back, since it seemed by the fact that a deposit was needed, that the cleaning had not yet occurred. I was told that I could not receive the item back without paying the $55. Upon consulting with a family lawyer, we believe this practice to be illegal, and are filing this complaint to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
Please also note that the physical address for this business location was not listed on the Revdex.com website. I had to choose an address from those listed, but for clarity, the business location is ***. Thank you for your assistance.

I spoke with the clerk who assisted *** with her drop off of her sheepskin rug. *** (the clerk) stated that she did not remember *** requesting a price quote at drop off. *** stated that she told *** she was not sure if her rug was something we can clean for her but that she would check on this and get back to her. As far as the "deposit" goes, *** chose the incorrect verbiage. What she should have explained to *** is that we ask customers to pre-pay for all expensive items (leathers, rugs, wedding gowns, etc.). We apologize for the miscommunication. At this time, ***'s sheepskin has been beautifully cleaned and is ready to be picked up at our Davis location. The retail charge for cleaning is $55.90, however because of the inconvenience we are comfortable with reducing the cleaning cost to $30.00. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

This message is upsetting because it contains nothing but fallacies. The clerk stated that she "did not remember" me asking for a price quote, but I not only know I asked (because I knew at the time I could not afford a costly cleaning service), but I remember asking twice - the second time pressing for a quote after not understanding my not being allowed one. When I called the business on the phone the very day I filed my original complaint with the Revdex.com, I spoke with this very same clerk (***) who again stated over the phone, "I told you when you came in here we can't give price quotes until the item comes back." The response from the business owner also states that the clerk wasn't sure if the item could be cleaned and "said she would get back to me". That is absolutely not what happened - I stood right there as she called the owner to ask if the piece could be cleaned, to which she received an answer in the affirmative, and continued with the transaction. It is frustrating the owner (or clerk) is refuting the details of everything that has happened. Finally, I must also state that when I came in for item pick-up and learned the exorbitant fee for the service (and was told the item required a deposit) I asked the clerk for the return of my item - still dirty - as I could not afford the cost. She flat-out refused, saying the item had already been cleaned. I later learned that it hadn't (it took over a week following a discussion with my husband on the phone to complete cleaning of the item - weeks after my bringing it in). In order to be done with this callous and irresponsible business that refuses to accept responsibility of any kind (opting instead to lay it on the customer), we will move forward with the $30 charge, and will leave a truthful Yelp review about our experience with this business. As the Revdex.com states on the website regarding customer complaints: complaints may be posted for the general public to see. I do ask that you post my complaint about this business, as others should not go through this sort of mistreatment in the future. Thank you.
