Dear Ms***,Ms*** *** did contract for a cake with Sweets by LaDawn. The customer is given a carbon copy of their contract and encouraged to bring it back when all of the final details pertaining to their wedding cake are discussed. I mirror the copies together then the
customer has the actual notes on their copy as well as my contractIf they don't bring the carbon copy back I encourage them to take a picture with their phone. When I delivered the cake (an hour before the ceremony because it was a warm day and the inside of the venue was not air-conditioned. During our consultation I made the customer aware that I would review the wedding day temperature and come as close to the time as possible) the customers family member came to me and told me that the cake was the wrong colorI apologized to the family member and encouraged her to have Ms*** give me a call on the following Monday to discussThe family member questioned why didn't I call in advance to say that the customers cake color wasn't a match. I shared with her that it was tan and I did not have a swatch to match a color specifically and wondered why would I call if it was the designers interpretation of the color tanAs a business owner I did feel bad If it wasn't the right color of tan that the customer requested I shared with the customer instead of going back-and-forth to have Ms*** call me (they needed a cake and I had no opportunity to change the color) to just give me a call on Monday and we will discuss and I would give a credit of what we both deemed as fair.The customer couldn't wait until Monday she began a social media bashingI apologized profusely over and over asking her how could a color of the cake ruin her entire wedding. Since it was public my customers began to chime inMs*** got nasty, so much so that she had to be banned as a resultThe final straw was when she called me a racist because of something one of my customer said.When the customer called on the following Monday she said that I had ruined her entire wedding because of the color of her cakeI shared with her that I would give her 5% credit in return she wanted almost half of the cakes cost. I asked her to be fairI thought we would come to a agreed upon decision but she blackmailed me saying that if I didn't give her $that she would post negativity on all of the social media websites which she and her husband have.When the husband came into the store he was not harassed but I did ask him why would his wife be so mean bashing me on multiple websites and saying her entire wedding was ruined because of the cakes color before we could come to a mutual agreed-upon refund. I said that she was not playing fair and couldn't even show me grace or mercy.As a result of this customer experience I now have a new policy that says I cannot guarantee cake colors even if I am provided a swatchWhich in this case I was not provided but would have been helpful to know what the customer deemed as her specific tan color.Sweets by LaDawnPlainfield RD.
