Synergy Fitness (East 31st Street) Reviews (54)

At this time, I have been contacted directly by Synergy Fitness (East 31st Street) regarding complaint ID [redacted] , however my complaint has NOT been resolved because: They requested that I once again send them the documentation of my termination of the account but have not acted to reverse the charges they have made, which I did I have attached all the correspondence along with the certified and registered mail receipts which was originally sent to them again I have never worked with a company that responded so poorly to an issue that is clearly their fault Furthermore, their requirement of a certified letter with a return receipt to close the account is an absurd barrier that I complied with back in January - it is now June and my only redress has been [redacted] holding the funds until this is resolved Bear in mind that they have made the threat to send this to a collection agency in an attempt to damage my credit and coerce payment Sincerely, [redacted] In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above Sincerely, [redacted]

Dear Sir/Madam, Please accept this letter as a response to the Revdex.com complaint filed by [redacted] ***There is no wrongdoing on our part [redacted] is simply complaining about a policy explicitly written on the membership contractThe stipulation requires that a cancelation letter be mailed as a certified letter to our gymMembership is then cancelled thirty days after the postmarked date on the certified letterAgain, there is no wrongdoing in this procedureAs a matter of fact, it is a common practice by some other gymsPlease note that [redacted] has presently accrued an amount of $After he pays this amount, his account will be cancelledWe are understanding of [redacted] ***'s complaint, but we stand by our cancelation policyPlease feel free to contact [redacted] if you have any more questions or commentsBest, [redacted] Synergy Fitness Clubs

The business has not addressed the fact of the matter hereAn offer to reduce the disputed amount by 25% does not seem reasonable in this situationThe amount should be fully absolved because I had taken the time to follow the required procedure of resignationI resigned from the gym with a certified letter in The gym kept the account open and added charges to the account for nearly three yearsDuring that period, the account was never usedIn addition, the gym also made absolutely no attempt to contact meI reached out to *** the *** of the gym, and he has as of yet not responded to my emailI found his email address on *** in the review section, and made sure to copy also the primary email for the gymIn the email, I requested that he ask his accounting department to review their records and find the certified resignation letter I had sent now three years agoI am assuming that I have not heard back because they are in the process of reviewing the situation internally.Thank you,*** ***

I chose to join this gym despite the strange feeling I had from the beginning, primarily because it is so close to my apartmentWhen I first toured the facility, the woman who was trying to convince me to join (totally to be pushy), went far beyond what is appropriateShe accused my boyfriend of being an alcoholic simply because he said that he had recently stopped drinkingShe suggested he go to AA meetings with herUnderstandably, she must have difficulty herself, but when he declined the invitation, she ranted about how he would relapse and continued to outline the catastrophe aheadAdditionally, when we tried to explain that we were just inquiring (we were not sure yet that we would be approved for the neighboring apartment), she demanded we fill out tons of information (including our contact and credit card information), and proceeded to call us virtually every dayThese calls sometimes came early in the morning or late at night when we were still sleeping
After joining, they offered a free personal training sessionI tried it, and was genuinely interested in pursuing further sessionsBut the trainer tried to guilt me into continuing on with himHe basically assumed I would continue, so telling him that I had to think about it, was incredibly uncomfortableThen, when I told him that I had a very busy schedule and was interested in meeting 1-times a week, he said that twice a week would not be beneficial, and that “someone like you needs at least four times a week”He continued to try to convince me to sign up for sessions four times a weekI’m a professional dancer and have never been overweightI have a nutritionist, and I work out on my own five times a week when accounting for work and rehearsals… I also told him that I wasn’t looking to change my body- I was just interested in learning how to use more of the equipmentSo it is illogical to assume, considering that I did not intend to change my body, that I needed at least four sessions a weekOf course this is a business ploy, but his “hustling” (as an employee called it when I later complained) quickly turned into harassmentAs I received calls from the woman who gave me the original tour, I received voicemails and texts from this trainerI responded by telling him that I would contact him when I made a decisionHis attempts at contact dissipated after about a month, but at this point I started to feel uncomfortable even going into the gym
Next, every time I entered the gym, they would ask me if I wanted a body assessmentThey would ask if I wanted to know the percentage of fat I had on my bodyThe first few times, I didn’t mindBut soon, it became really irritatingThe moment you walk in, there are three trainers explicitly asking this questionI asked for the manager, primarily to address this issue, but also to discuss some of the other concerns I was having six months into my membership
Some of my basic expectations for a gym are properly working equipment and relatively accurate class schedulesWhen I first joined, the class schedule included three cycling classes per week (two of which were back to back though)This was what made me decide to join SynergyIf this had not been the case, I wouldn’t have joinedWhat they failed to tell me, is:
Every month the schedule changes drastically
Most of the classes are cancelled every week, and there is no substitute
Classes nonchalantly begin minutes late, leaving just minutes and a half hearted apology from the teacher
I initially conceded to join a gym that had three cycling classes a weekIt wasn’t the best, but I thought I would make doBut now there is only oneAnd most likely, it will be cancelled most weeksThus, the conditions in which I believed I was entering into when signing my contract, no longer exist
When I first signed up, before signing the contract, I asked to speak with the managerI was directed to a man who I have never had a problem withNow, I realize this is because he either lied to me every time I asked a question, or he too is victim to this company’s fraudulent practicesI asked him specifically about guest passesAre there certain days or times when guests are not allowed? Is there a certain number of guests I can bring in per month? EctHe told me that there were some rules about when guests could not come, but to just let whoever is working know that he says it is okay to bring someone inHe gave me a handful of index cards, which are supposed to be guest passesHe told me to use themI responded by asking if I lose the cards, will there be an electronic reference noting how many guests I’ve had, which would suffice for a guest passHe told me that would be correctHe said I should never have a problem bringing in a guest
I had tried to bring a guest in a few times before todayOnce it was allowed, but the employees viciously tried to recruit him as a customerThis made both of us uncomfortable, and to this day, my guest still receives calls and voicemails from SynergyThis same person came in once more with me (and this person has a gym of his own that he belongs to as well), and they refused to let him inI asked for the manager, who was the guy who had been nice to me beforeHe told me that I could not bring in the same guest twiceI asked, “even if it has been six months since the last time?”, and he said yesSo we went to my friend’s gymThe only other time (besides today) I tried to bring in a guest, the employee accused me of having brought the person in multiple timesMy friend was visiting NYC for the first time, but it took about minutes of debate before they agreed to let her in
Today, I had the most unpleasant experience I’ve had yetI have only brought two people in to be my guests in the last months, and every time it has been a struggleToday, I found out that the employee who I was told was the manager, is actually not the managerAnother friend is visiting the United States for the first time, and I wanted to work out with himWhen I showed up, they said that the “manager” recently decided that this weekend (labor day weekend), no guests were allowedGranted, on all paperwork it is stated that guest policies applyBut when I asked about this (and I did so multiple times), I was always told that “guest policies” exclusively referred to a set of rules on the wall (certain hours weekly when guests were not allowed)I figured that because I had brought my guest at a time not covered by these restrictions, I would not have a problemThe person who was working told me that I could not have a guestI proceeded to tell him of the “manager” who advised me to use his nameThe employee seemed not to careI asked if he could call the manager (who I thought was the person I had dealt with before)We went through a back and forth routine of him refusing to contact the manager or anyone above himI then asked for a contact number of the owner or corporate officeHe again refused me thisHe said the manager would be back soon, and that he would do me a favorHe told me to fill out a piece of paper for my guestI did so, glad that I would not have to deal with more of this company’s ridiculous manipulationThen, he said that all I had to do was pay $Then, the real manager (or at least I’m assuming he is) came inThis was when the real problem startedI first expressed confusion, asking if there was another manager as wellHe told me that he was the only managerI went through the same conversation, but this time my concerns seemed even less relevant
When another customer walked in, the manager tried to walk awayI told him that I needed to have this discussion, and he shoved me (him, a really muscly guy, and me, a petite classical dancer), walking past into his officeI proceeded to follow him, insisting that he continue this conversation and not ignore his customersHe told me that the other customers would potentially pay more, so they were more deserving of his attentionWhen I told him that I would not leave until I received the contact information for the owner or corporate manager, he proceeded to call the policeI left after that because the bruise on my arm was beginning to make me feel like I had been hit by a brick
I feel that I have wasted nine of the eleven months that I have been paying to attend this gymI would DEFINITELY advise no one else to go thereThe facilities, the equipment, and the employees are awfulI understand that all businesses, especially ones in a competitive fitness market, must “hustle” their customers to a certain degree, but their practices violate customersIt is clear that their employees promote verbal inaccuraciesI have not been to the other locations, but it is clear that there is an issue at least at the management level, if not among individual employees and corporate members

Hello Sir/Madam, We are sorry to see that the customer is not satisfied with our cancelation policyIt is explicitly written in the contract and explained to them when they first signed up for membershipPlease understand that we are trying to follow procedureThank you and take care, Synergy Fitness Clubs

Dear ***,
I have received your letter in regard to issues from our former memberThey all seem to be billing-related issuesIn summary, the former member insists that they have cancelled their membership the proper wayThe proper way being that the cancellation letter has to
be sent via certified mail.
Our records show that this member have not cancelled properlyHence, her gym membership is still active at the momentAnd, needless to say, she is still being actively charged every monthWe insist that she have not followed proper cancellation procedureIf she indeed did cancel properly by sending a certified letter, she should be able to provide a receipt with tracking number.
Contractual procedure stipulates that cancellations must be sent via certified letterMany members find this excessive and, as a result, do not bother to cancel properlyInstead, they will cancel their credit cards in hopes that the gym will not continually charge themAs you can see, these former members will eventually be sent to collections.
So if this former members did indeed cancel properly, she should be able to provide receipts with tracking numbersIf she can't, then there is no dispute.
Thank you and take care,

What an Outrage- How Dishonest can a Company be

Our Client "*** ***" joined Synergy Fitness, *** *** ** on March ***, As rightly mentioned by him, along with his membership, for $31.34/month, he purchased PT Sessions for
$His membership included One month free vizaviz Groupon and Two Months Complimentary Membership from the gymThus, after joining in March, he started getting billed for his membership in June From the month of June, up until October,he did not make any payments or even question the gym why he wasn't charged for his membershipWhen the credit pending on a client's membership reaches over $100.00, they are automatically sent to CollectionsAs a courtesy, Kunal along with other members with a balance due are called on various occasions before sending them to collectionsUnfortunately his phone number on file was incorrect and all attempts to reach him were in vainSince he stopped using the club or using his sessions, he was sent to collections thereof. The regular price for PT sessions is $Plus the membership fee per month is If we calculate the period of time Kunal was a member, he merely paid $(including his membership fee for months plus his PT sessions) instead of $(x months plus PT Sessions @ 110/session), thus earning a discount of $for our services. Apart from this, when Kunal came back to the gym when he received a call from collections, he requested the Manager to pardon the collection fee and just pay the balance due on his accountSince he was a client, we again helped him out and removed the collection fee and just took the amount he owed to the gym (for March - October2016). Post the settling of his payments he insisted he finish the remaining PT sessions with another trainerSince his contract expired, the manager suggested that he purchase more training sessions and we can add the remaining two sessions as complimentary sessionsSince his sessions had already expired as per the gym rules which were signed by Kunal, the manager explained to him how this was the most he could help himKunal agreed to the arrangement, via email, and showed up to finish his prior training sessionsHe could, however, train with his original trainer on *** ***, but insisted on using another trainer on Lexington AvelocationOn the day of his training he changed his mind and decided to only finish his sessions and not purchase any further sessionsThe manager then showed and explained the following rule mentioned in his contract. Rule If applicable, and unless otherwise indicated, all fitness service sessions will expire at the rate of months for every ten sessions..Rule Fitness service sessions must be used prior to expiration date.Rule Bonus fitness service sessions will be honored only with written documentation, and will expire two weeks from date of issue.Rule Bonus has no cash value and is non-refundable and non-transferable.All Fitness Service Sessions are Non-Refundavble and Non - Transferable.Kunal's PT Sessions expired latest on August All sessions are non-refundable if not used by the clientIf he wishes to purchase more sessions we can still offer him complimentary sessions but other than that since he has cancelled his membership in November 2016, all his sessions have expired and cannot be honored anymore or be refunded

I bought a townhouse built by polygon just over a year ago. The townhouse is just over a year old and is turning out to be junk! Having all sorts of issues and every time we try to contact polygon on issues, it causes even more headaches! They're customer service is an absolute joke!!

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

It has been over 6 months since I cancelled the membership and I have moved out of state so I do not have a receipt. If you look into this business' history, you will see a number of similar complaints from other customers. I would like to contact the company at their corporate headquarters but no one will provide contact information to me. This all feels incredibly underhanded and wrong. I took the proper steps to cancel my membership and never heard anything about my account being active until just a week or two ago. I will not pay for a membership that I cancelled. I should not be charged for a membership that I cancelled and have not used since February of 2014.

[Your Answer Here]
They have simply restated their unfair and needlessly backwards cancellation policy, which is coercive, and designed solely to extract the most money out of their customers after the customer wants to cancel membership.  My basic argument is this policy itself is unethical.  Businesses should not be able to get away with unethical and coercive behavior simply because its their "policy". I have stated the reasons it is unethical in my original complaint, I suppose it is now up to the Revdex.com to adjudicate this matter.  [redacted]
