T & D Flooring Reviews (1)

I am writing this customer review (my opinion) because I hired a general flooring contractor: [redacted], from [redacted] Flooring Inc. in Minnesota to do flooring install and refinishing at my home in June of 2013 and my home is still in the mess that he and his subcontractors left for us to fix. Duration of this work went on for more than 6 months. I was introduced to [redacted] Flooring through Lumber Liquidators. [redacted] Flooring is one of Lumber Liquidators companies that do their flooring installs. [redacted] Flooring was hired to take carpet up and reinstall vinyl planking in basement; take carpet up and install pre-finished hardwood on upper sleeping level, and hired to take carpet out, install new oak hardwood and refinish and also stain and refinish existing hardwood on main level.
This company states that they have many years of experience in the flooring install business and provides expert workmanship. WRONG! I would never recommend or have [redacted] Flooring and/or any of his subs anywhere near my home again and I want to warn others that this contractor in my opinion should not be in the hardwood install or finishing business. This company should be known for very inferior work quality, inferior workmanship, inferior customer service, overcharge of materials, not finishing work and charging for it, and they caused damage to my home. [redacted] Flooring used a sub-contractor named Dustin L Petersen from Select Flooring, Big Lake MN. This sub-contractor used a young boy Justin to help him with the work. They left my floors with huge gaps at the sides of the flooring. In some spots, the baseboard and shoe molding did not even cover the gaps. When the contractor took baseboards off, he ripped the sheet-rock on walls. Every task that this sub-contractor attempted in my home caused more issues for me to fix: damage to walls, floors, damage to pipes, water damage to ceiling and walls, stain product that he got on my new appliances that ruined the doors. They were sloppy and careless and left the worksite with garbage, dirt, materials, and nails. They didn’t finish the work that they were hired to do and then charged me for it. They even left my toilet unhooked in the mudroom on the main level for two weeks. My husband had to finish a lot of the work or fix items not done right or we had to hire others to fix the major damage.
[redacted] flooring as general contractor, took no responsibility for his subs. He was not present on the job site when his subs worked. The only time we saw [redacted] was when he wanted to get paid. When I did show him an issue (when he came to get paid), he said that was the subcontractors issue. Then the subcontractor would say that it was Castles’ responsibility. I do not know how this contractor can stay in business. If anyone is giving him an “A” rating it is my opinion that they are paid or they are family, because there is no way that his contractor is qualified to be in the flooring or refinishing business.
While in the middle of all this chaos at my home, I started researching [redacted] Flooring Inc. (found other names for this same contractor: known as [redacted] Flooring, [redacted] Flooring, and also known as T & D Flooring – [redacted] and [redacted] as owners) because I couldn’t believe that with this level of inferior workmanship and quality, poor communication, poor service, and lack of responsibility that others were not complaining too. I did find complaints for [redacted] Flooring Inc. on the MN Revdex.com site, then on Angie’s List where I found write-ups from people who had similar experiences. Unfortunately it was too late for me the reviews were written after I started the work with this contractor. Also found civil/criminal records on MNcourt site.
On the last day [redacted] came to the house (6 months after the start of the project and again only showed up to be paid) he handed me a final bill and expected to be paid on the spot. I told [redacted] that I wanted to review the charges with my husband. He heckled me and threatened to take me to small claims court. I told him to get the [redacted] out of my house. After reviewing all the invoices and work we found that [redacted] had charged us for work not applicable to the job, work he didn’t finish, over charges on taxes and overcharge of cost of material. I paid [redacted] what I felt he was owed based on work satisfactorily completed and I deducted for any damage and or work that my husband and I now had to fix because of his subcontractors carelessness. The amount was substantially less than he thought he should receive. This payment discrepancy went to small claims court (conciliation court). The judgment was to split the final bill amount, and the judge stated offset was given to us as homeowners because of the contractor’s inferior workmanship, quality of work, and because we still have to fix damage. I had to pay more money to this contractor but only because I had to. [redacted] did not deserve a penny more than I originally gave to him. Beware!
