Review: TFitz agreed and signed a Service Contract for a kitchen remodel in early summer of 2012. Part of the contract was installing a cooktop stainless steel hood that was required to be vented either to side of house, or out thru roof of house. TFitz approved the hood based on dimensions and venting requirements, inspected the hood upon delivery after purchase, and agreed that it would be installed, as instructed with a vent to outside, as required by NY Building Code for this unit. The hood was installed on/around mid Sept of 2012. We thought everything was fine, but soon learned that was not the case. On 6/6/13, less then 1 year after install, we experienced a bathroom leak on opposite side of wall which required gutting the wall to the studs. We quickly realized TFitz had lied about the Hood Venting, and instead lied to us as well as broke building code, by simply cutting a hole and venting into the wall cavity. Evidence of mold was already evident as documented by pictures taken. The insurance claim adjuster stated that it was just a matter of time before the entire wall interior would have disintegrated from the greasy humidity. The unit, which was unattached to any vent, was wide open and hence received water from the leak, which resulted in water damage into the kitchen as it flowed out the vent and down into the cooktop. Both the emergency plumber and claim rep frankly were in disbelief about how deceptive the contractor had to be to not do that job correctly, especially after getting paid in full do it correctly. The resulting damage to the wall, bathroom, and kitchen appliances is still being reviewing by my insurance company. I have since hired another contractor to install the vent line correctly. $30 worth of duct work and 1 hour is all TFitz would of had to invest to finish this correctly. But instead the damage is in the thousands. And its for this reason I am filing a complaint. I have claim info, pictures, and contract to document it.Desired Settlement: Want refund on the price we paid him for installation of the hood. Based on the fee he quoted, and what we paid on the contract. I could pursue stronger more expensive actions but think a refund for this portion etc. would be enough to make people like him stop taking advantage of clients.
