We hired them to completely refinish the hardwood floors on the first/second floor of our recently purchased house. The floors came out ok, some spots had debris that dried into the clear coat . They really dropped the ball when it came to maintaining their working area. We had just had the entire interior of the house painted including the stairs and banister. The workers were sloppy, they scratched the bannister, left hand prints on the walls, nicked the kitchen cabinets, and there was dried stain/clear coat drips on the kick plates and side of the stairs. We contacted the owner who came and inspected the damage. He said that it "wasn't his stain that dripped on the stairs". Keep in mind no other stain has ever been used in the house or on the floors, we also took a video prior to the floors being done that showed no stain on the stairs. He agreed to return and fix the problem with the debris stuck in the clear coat by re-sanding and re-staining. He agreed to a date and time and never showed up. We ended up having the painter come in and fix all of the mess that they made for an additional $250 dollars. He also held onto the check we gave him for almost a month. We had to call him and ask to cash the check.
Additionally, he indicated that the initial job would be completed by 8/27 (we could walk on the floors by 8/27. They did not work on Saturday as they were supposed to in order for the floor to be dry by Sunday. The final coat was put on Monday, so we couldn't go back in until Tuesday. The job was not completed until 8/29. Since we could not walk on the floors we had to stay in a hotel for additional nights thus incurring even more money spent.
When given the opportunity, T. Leblanc & Sons, Inc. will always recommend doing any staining before painting as it is not uncommon for stain to creep and some painting touch up is often necessary. In this case, all the painting was complete before we were on the job. We went back to this job and addresses all the concerns of the customer to the best of our ability and were led to believe that it was satisfactory. We always strive for excellence in our product and regret the inconvenience experienced by this customer. It is unfortunate that the owner did not come to us first with the financial situation. An unknown problem cannot be resolved. We certainly intend to compensate this customer for his unexpected financial cost. We take pride in our customer's satisfaction and believe that our record over the past 99 years speaks for itself.
