Initial Business Response / [redacted] (1000, 9, 2015/04/21) */ Contact Name and Title: [redacted] Owner Contact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXX Contact Email: [redacted] @ [redacted] .net - Here are the details The atv was purchased new april 14/2014 we never serviced or saw the unit until it came in for service... on Feb 19, 2015 at this time the unit had 2322 km on it which is quite a bit in a 10 month period. regardless the unit came in for 3 things- overheating, leaking oil, and customer wanted a full service, we addressed all of these- overheat issue was caused by a dirty/plugged radiator, the oil leak was caused by a leaking engine drain plug- which was stripped due to overtightening, (not by us-as this was the first time we had seen this atv since it was sold) the customer was given two options.- a install a helicoil- which is a process of installing a thread repair kit- this is an option that costs approx. 50.00 verses option b- which would be to remove the engine totally disassemble an replace the damaged engine case where the plug goes , this would be between 3-4000 depending on engine case costs and total labour involved - The customer was contacted and choose the helicoil option. which we performed. this is not 100% guaranteed to work but does work 80% off the time and is a fraction of the cost. PRIOR TO SERVICING UNIT, WE HAD TO WASH UNIT AS THE BELLY PAN/SKID PLATES WERE FULL OF FROZEN MUD AND ICE (WE WERE UNABLE TO ACCESS DRAIN BOLTS). In addition we preformed a full service on the atv which included replacing worn out front brakes and bled brake system - Airfilter and airfilter box was full of grass (this is not good for engine as airbox is designed to keep dirt debris from entering engine) and could not be cleaned to satisfactory levels so it was replaced. the customer states that only 252.00 parts were charged by 669.00 in labour- there are many service items that are done on a full atv service that do not require parts, after the service the drain plug was still leaking but only minor dripping the customer was called and advised of this and told we would also let the person picking it up know the situation and that they will need to keep an eye on the oil level at all times, ie before each ride, etc. The unit ran perfectly when it left and in the customers on admissions it was running great when they picked it up. [redacted] The question of warranty the atvs from new come with 6 months, it was not serviced by us prior to getting 2300 km on it. [redacted] The failure was caused by a - a situation that would not be covered by warranty ( if it wasn't 6 months expired) - warranty covers a failed part, or a failure that is caused by a defective part- neither of these is the case. - b a situation or action by someone other than T&T is not our responsibility. - [redacted] - in summary oil plug was stripped on bottom of engine case, -by someone else, - we completed a full service and contacted the customer about the oil leak repair options - the customer made the choice to go to others for service which is fine it is there choice. - as well the customer was given the choice to choose which repair they wanted and choose the cheaper one, which I also would have done myself. - even after all the verbal abuse and slandering that was done to us I still offered the father for us to do repair estimate properly at our cost, as well as offered a discount on the repairs on this unit. - I do not in any way shape or form feel that we are responsible for the damage that occurred, we did in my opinion more than our due diligence like we would do for any of our customers, I strongly believe that our record for customer satisfaction makes this apparent, realizing that we cannot satisfy all of the people all of the time, but we still try, we also pride ourselves in not doing anywork that is not prior authorized by the customer. It is a struggle when a young man drops off a unit for repair and you deal with him, and his mother and then his father, communication is an important part of our business and it is imperative that we are able to communicate the problem and have someone listen, which in this case was not the situation, I believe after the service that was needed and the price of it they believe it is someone else that should pay. Please contact me If I can help you in any other way to complete this.
