Tahoe Sailing Supply Reviews (1)

Review: I had inquired with the business owner what the approximate cost would be to have new standing rigging installed on my newly refurbished sailboat. The owner stated I will have to look at the boat to let you know but likely in the realm of $700-$800. This with the understanding that he would have to look at the boat then call and let me know. I was told to bring the boat on a Monday and it would likely be done on Thursday afternoon. After not receiving any phone calls I called the owner and asked if 1) How much did he think it would cost and 2) if it will be done by the stated time. The owner stated I am waiting on parts from U.P.S. and it should be done Monday. I said O.K.; understood what am I looking at for the cost of parts and installation. The owner stated I have not yet come to a figure but I will let you know when I do. On Monday I called and asked again do we have a figure on cost and will the rigging be done on the stated Monday? He answered: "I am still waiting on parts from U.P.S.". I explained that the vehicle that I tow this boat with will be taken by my wife to go to Montana and that I may be in a predicament and not be able to have anything to tow it home for two weeks if it does'nt get finished. The said let me call you back in about an hour. He calls me back in ~10 min and said U.P.S. arrived and all of the work should be done in 1.5 hrs. He still did not have a price for me. After my 1.5 hr drive to Homewood I met with someone who worked for the owner who was there to go over the rigging with me. When I saw the boat that I had completely refurbished and placed brand new nonskid decking on it was covered in dirt, footprints, and had rocks/pebbled in the floor of the cockpit. The worker was kind and went over the rigging processes with me but also stated he did not have an estimate but I would receive an invoice in the mail. The owner [redacted] was gone for the day and I contacted him the next moring. When asked he said, "I still need to work the numbers but will be about $1500-$1600Desired Settlement: A reduction in the now stated cost to be at least close to the original estimate. The owner never called me with the final cost before starting (then finishing) the work. He also put a mast mounted steaming light on the boat that I did not ask for and said it would be extra for labor because of corrosion on the fittings. I will have to spend an entire day to clean the boat back to its original condition when I brought it to him. This is not how customers are typically treated in the sailing busi

Business

Response:

Company states: We told the customer that they would be paying about $900 for parts and then the price of labor on top of that. The consumer agreed and dropped off the vehicle after hours. We viewed that as acceptance of work to be begin and completed on the boat. The consumer has already paid us for about $1300 of the total job but still have a remaining balance for the work that was completed on the boat.
