On July [redacted] 2016, a customer named, [redacted] , came into Taj Mahal Hardware & Building Supply store and purchased an AC/DC voltage tester with a few nuts and washersHe inquired about the store policy and the Sales Representative explained the policy is that a person can return or exchange items if the original packaging is maintained and not tamperedOn July ***, [redacted] returned to the store stating that he wanted to return the product that the product is not functionalUpon inspecting the packaging, the Sales Representative explained this item has been removed from its original packaging and therefore per the store policy that was communicated and posted by the register, this item cannot be exchange or returnedThe Rep also tested the product and found it to be functional [redacted] became furious and started to utter profanity and demanded total refundWhen he noticed the Sales Rep remained calm and continue to point out the policy, [redacted] then called the City Police (NYPD)This entire time till the officers arrived [redacted] verbally harassed the sales Rep with profanity, name calling and abusive speechOnce the officers were made aware of the transaction and store policy, they questioned [redacted] , “Did you open the package” [redacted] replied, “Yes”At that point the officers explained that per the store policy this item is not exchangeable or returnableThe next day [redacted] again called NYPD and the officers again explained to [redacted] that the store policy prevails over his reasoningFinally, [redacted] asked the sales representative to show him how to use the productThe sales representative showed him and [redacted] realized that he was not using the product properlyAfter all this trouble [redacted] admitted that he did not know how to use the product and asked to exchange for another itemThe representative agreed to an exchange explained to [redacted] not to be belligerent and hostileTaj Mahal Hardware & building supply is a place where the employees are trained to be and provide professional and good customer serviceGood customer service is treating customers with a friendly helpful attitudeWe teach our staff to be great listeners and respect customersWe will continue to raise the bar of professionalism and honesty
