Day 1- 3 men worked 6.5 cleaning the yard, the *** cashed the $10 000 deposit check. first thing on day 2 he cancelled the job and kept $3000.00.
I hired the company to due foundation repair work on a home in ottawa, *** seem professional and had a reasonable price. A contract was signed for the scope of work of $37 0000 ish.
2 men and the *** showed up for roughly 6 hours on Dec 6, 2017 to remove a deck and clear some patio stones and small shrubs near the foundation a $10 000 deposit was provided around 2 pm. The check was cashed that afternoon. At 9 Am the next morning I receive a call from *** stating he did not want to continue with the work till spring, I verified my account the $10 000 check already cleared. *** stated he would leave me a refund check with the balance and the keys to the property. He left an invoice with flat $3000.00 + tax and a refund for the balance. I contacted *** and advised that the work that was done did not reflect the amount charged and asked for a break down, the original quote was for the global job and did not have itemized cost. I advised that I did not see how 6.5 hours of unskilled labour could be so high. He told that was the price and that's it. I asked for him to itemize how he can up with that amount and he would not. He said he make up to $700 per hour. I told him a dis-agree with the charge and that the invoice should reflect the work performed, he just kept saying that's what it is.

Initial Business Response /(1000, 5, 2017/12/25) */
I am writing this letter in response to *** complaint sent in on December 8, 2017.

I visited the site and met with *** several times and each of these times we went over the cost of the job and she was given a breakdown of what each part of the job would cost. She was provided with a contract which covered the total price of the scope of work and she signed the contract acknowledging the cost and breakdown.

*** took possession of the house in late November and digging was supposed to start immediately before the snow fell. Upon taking possession *** had still not decided how she would like to proceed with the work. She was still contemplating putting in an addition. She decided to proceed with the addition however she still did not have engineer drawings done or any permits from *** which all takes additional time to obtain and further delayed digging so I started with removing the decking and patio stones clearing the work area as quickly as possible so we could start digging before the snow fell while waiting on permits and drawings. When checking the forecast snow was coming and the temperature was dropping. *** do not dig in the winter as the quality of the work is not the same as the temperatures effect the waterproofing, tarring, and overall workmanship. I wouldn't want to take that chance with my own home let alone a customer's. We were hoping to get the job done within the first week of *** taking possession of the home however the delays revolving around the addition pushed us back and by this time Winter was here the ground was starting to freeze and about to be covered in snow.

I explained to *** that I could no longer processed with the work do to the dropping temperature and knowing snow was coming in the next two days. If I would have gone ahead with the digging, the house would have been dug out and the yard snow covered unable to finish the work. It was a good call on my part to stop the work saving time and wasted money for nothing.

I had received a down payment from the customer and returned it immediately less the cost of removing the deck and patio stones which was clearly covered in the signed contract.

I am sorry *** felt this cost was not broken down to her liking however I would have expected her to mention or discuss with me during one of the many conversations we had covering the costs or when she signed off on the contract which covered the cost.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /(3000, 8, 2018/01/03) */

Subject: Re: Revdex.com Complaint Case***

I am attaching the very general quote that was provided to me for the work. I agree that the work was delayed and the winter came in early. The contractor should have verified the forcast before starting as he cancelled it within 24 hours of starting.

I would like a break down how a few hours of work comes up to $3000.00 + tax.. I have requested this from*** over the phone over and over and he refuses to provide me an answer. He has even been so bold as to tell me that he sometimes make up to $700.00 per hours. The quote he provided me the estimated the work would take about 2 weeks and it also included allot of materials, shipments of sand and of ciment.

I would like a break down and cost he is charging me for the few hour of work done and for him to return to over charges to me. *** said his labourer were at the house at 7 am.. but looking at the forcast the day after the sunrise was at 7:30 so I highly believe that was the actual starts time. I was at the property and 11:00 one man left at around noon the other 1 pm and *** around 1 pm.

*** had a small machine at the property same as this*** But it was not necessary for the work.

Again I would like a break down of the charges and invoice that reflects the work performed.

Final Business Response /(4000, 16, 2018/02/12) */
In response to *** request for a brake down of scope of work performed, I had spoken to her on three different occasions about all costs associated with her project. The prepping of the site, removal of deck, trees, and patio stones was $3000.00 flat rate. She signed the contract with the total amount of what the scope of work was going to cost. I made three site visits with her before she signed the contract. It was a flat rate for the work that was done.

Final Consumer Response /(4200, 18, 2018/02/13) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Again there is no break down for the work performed. I signed a contract for an extensive job with over 2 weeks of work and load of materials being delivered and sub-contractors.

My question is so simple how did a few hours work of unskilled labour turn into $3000. I spoke to the contractor on several occasions and asked for the break down the only response I receive is "it is $3000.00" Please post my complaint people should not give *** money in advance or any substantial down payment as he will continue to take people money without recourse.
