*** ***RE; ***In response to the customers statement.The customer brought in a *** *** for an oil change, We are a very busy Shop So it was approximately minutes before we could get the vehicle in for the oil changeThe tech drove the vehicle into the bay and was putting
the shift lever into park position when it suddenly felt very looseIn an effort to find out what the problem was he removed the plastic housing cover (which was undamaged) for the shifter and found the steering column itself had brokenThe column is a thick, solid steel housing that would be extremely difficult to break, especially without damaging the surrounding partsThe tech brought the manager (Caryn) out to show her what he found, she then brought the customer out to the shop and apologetically showed him that the steel steering column was broken and that she would see what she could do regarding repairsWe can't explain how the column was originally damaged but the vehicle must have been in an accident at some point for that kind of damage to happenWe did not quote him $for the repair, we explained that under the circumstances we would do the repair for our cost of parts only, no labor charges and that the cost of that repair would be $Since then we have left several telephone messages and sent emails attempting to reach him without a responseThe vehicle has been at the shop for almost daysHe has been notified of storage charges mounting and the vehicle has received a ticket for expired tagsWe have no choice but to file for a mechanics lean in order to have the vehicle removed from our possession.Thank you
