The original claim was never reported to Aetna as an emergency but it was processed incorrectly by Aetna the patient's insurance company, which left the balance of $to the patientAfter the patient called Aetna, they (Aetna) reprocessed the claim correctly and sent a revised
admittance that was received on 6/5/The patient paid the $balance left to his responsibility by Aetna on 5/16/17. A new correct remittance issued by Aetna on 6/1/17 resulted in a credit balance due to the patient of $when it was posted on 6/14/The patient called on 6/22/requesting the refundWe posted the refund transaction to his account on 6/20/and sent in a refund check request to our accounting departmentThe accounting department cut a check on 7/3/and it was signed and put in the mail on 7/6/I personally talked to the patient on 7/6/and explained this to the patientHe was happy to hear that the check was on it's way

The money in question was not collected up front, it was the result of the patient's insurance incorrectly informing the patient that he owed an additional $55, which was then paid by the patient. We are sorry it took 5 weeks for the patient to receive the money. Our normal process is to refund patient balances within 2-3 weeks after we become aware of the credit balance.I would be very willing to discuss the entire process with the patient
