Tape-Ease – worst vendor EVER in our experience in terms of product quality and customer service – BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!

As background, we remodeled our house from September 2013 to July 2014. The first product we ordered for this remodel was from Tape-Ease and amazingly, it was the last item “completed”, although completed is a misnomer, since we’re still dealing with their defective product.

We have had many problems with their product and it is getting progressively worse after being installed for just several months. Their website claims the following:

Nobody beats our QUALITY, SERVICE AND SELECTION.

We will now provide information why their quality and service is the worst we have ever experienced from any vendor and we have remodeled 4 homes thus far.

It all begins with their website… which is also one of the worst we have ever navigated. Our contractor ordered the product in September 2013 and we paid for it in early November. We would have paid earlier, except the Tape-Ease website dropped the order and the contractor had to reorder again, which takes several hours to do. However Tape-Ease did not start preparing the product until late December. This approximate 1 ½ month delay was due to Tape-Ease dropping the order for a 3rd time and the contractor again had to spend several hours reordering it.

If you want a laugh, refer to this comment on their website:

Forums like www.boardreader.com are streaming with compliments about dealing with Tape-Ease!!!

This link actually takes you to a psychic website! So, I guess you get to consult with goblins and ghosts regarding their supposed compliments! ?

The product was finally delivered in late January, 4 months after we ordered it initially and this took repeated follow up, even to achieve this result.

We noticed several issues right away and contacted Tape-Ease to replace one of the cabinet doors. Tape-Ease was incommunicative regarding this for over a month. We followed up again & again and finally the replacement cabinet door was delivered in early April. When we received this door, it had over a dozen dents. We contacted Tape-Ease again and they wanted to blame UPS, even though the packaging box was in pristine condition. They finally delivered it in early July 2014. This cabinet door ALSO had dents.

About June 2014, only 4 months after everything was installed, we started noticing numerous defects with the product that began emerging pretty much daily. These defects included:

- Numerous cracks from the knots which extend beyond the knots

- Numerous cracks and shrinkage of putty within the knots

- Numerous instances where putty that has fallen out

- Pretty much all the putty is rotting or eroding

- Numerous cracks in the wood unrelated to the knots

- Several dents.

We have 60+ photos of Tape-Ease defects we have taken thus far, many of which we sent to Tape-Ease. Tape-Ease barely acknowledged the photos. 2 days after we sent the photos, here is how they responded:

“I LOOKED AT THE PICTURES … WE ARE ALL IN AGREEMENT THAT WHAT WE SAW WAS PRETTY MUCH STANDARD FOR THE RUSTIC ALDER MATERIAL.”

If you like knots that have fallen out, several 2-inch gaping, see-through holes in the cabinets, cracks everywhere, putty deteriorating and falling out, Tape-Ease is the vendor for you!

Our contractor told us he felt humiliated he even suggested Tape-Ease, given their horrible service and product quality. He said he will never use them again.

To hopefully correct these defects, at least for a couple years, we had to utilize a wood refinisher to the tune of $3000 to repair the defects. This vendor was laughing at the Tape-Ease product, due to the state of the cabinets after only 4 months.

So, in conclusion, if you want the worst vendor ever, based on our experiences, and if you want to spend $3000 to correct the defects they for some reason won’t acknowledge, Tape-Ease is the vendor for you!
