Tar Heel Glass installed a window at our place of business and overtightened the screws to hold it in place which caused it to crack. On 11/22/15 Tar Heel Glass (THG) was contacted to replace a broken storefront window. They boarded up the window on 11/22 and said they would replace it after the holiday asking for the best time and date. They said they could come after the Thanksgiving Break and settled on replacing the window at 5am before the business was open. I had an employee show up to open the cafe for them and THG did not show up. After recontacting them, they replaced the pane of glass. That evening the employees noticed a crack starting on the left inside of the pane. By the next morning the crack had spread to the top. Upon inspection, the crack had started where the screws were screwed into the frame. I called over the next month 5 times, 3 of them leaving a message with a person and two of them leaving messages on the answering machine. No one ever called back. I have since had to go with another company to have it replaced. Upon replacing it, they agreed that it was cracked at the point of installation and also informed me that safety glass should have been used instead of single pane as it is too dangerous and not up to code.Desired SettlementI am looking to have at least half the reimbursement to help pay for the second window that was installed. The first trip out to cover the window with plywood was satisfactory; this was half the bill of ~$1200. The new window replacement was $600.

Business provided estimate to replace 2 windows for total $240, but then charged $380. They agreed to resolve but haven't after 5 phone calls. In April, 2015 a representative came to my daughter's house in Hillsborough to measure glass and provide an estimate to replace glass in 2 windows. I was told that cost would be $240 including replacement and removal of old glass. When the installation was done (only my daughter was home) they insisted that she pay them $380, which she did. I contacted them several times, and eventually they told me that the original estimate had omitted labor cost. I explained that I might not have had the second window replaced if I had known the cost was $380, not $240. They were agreeable to "splitting the difference" which I proposed, because this appeared to be an honest mistake. I have now called them at least 5 times since then, and each time they indicate that they will send my daughter a check for $70, but they never do. They are adamant that they don't run a bait and switch operation, but now they refuse to return my calls, so I am hoping you can help resolve this disappointing interaction.Desired SettlementRefund of $70 to Molly Cronenwett2510 Wyndermere Ct.Hillsborough, NC 27278Since I contacted you, the company sent a refund to settle the manner as I requested. I assume that your letter to them may have helped even if they did not respond to you. Thank your for your help.________________________________________
