This roof was inspected by America Roofing on 11/4/It was found that there is massive amounts of bird droppings causing pre mature granule loss (see pics)This is caused by the acids in the droppingsThis is NOT caused from poor workmanship or substandard productsThis also is not
covered under our warranty nor the manufactures warranty

We were selected by a drawing to receive assistance for home repairs on our home. The priority for repairs goes to making the home up to code and the rest has to meet approval by the housing authority and is then allowed if there are enough funds.
Based on our income, my family received a chance for repairs up to $15,000.00. The money is half grant and half  loan. We were given a list of approved contractors and told we could pick from them or choose one of our one who met several criteria to submit bids, but the lowest bid won the job. Mr. [redacted] won the job.
We were concerned that our former furnace was large and very old and was not heating the house. I understand that our former furnace at 153,000btu has different efficiency than the current furnaces out today. We asked if a smaller furnace would make the house even colder or if the cold was simply due to the fact that the furnace was from 1990.  We were not telling them how to do their job, we were just trying to ask if downsizing would only make the problem we already had worse and that is when they said that they could add a duct to the bedroom and that was the solution that we agreed upon.
As far as demanding we have a 150,000btu furnace, we did not and if we did, I doubt we would have signed off on the 125,000btu furnace they installed. And all we did was sign off that the furnace was installed. It was literally a conversation of “So, the furnace is in? Yes? Ok, sign here.”
We didn’t know that there was an issue until Spring when we called in an HVAC specialist to come quote prices for central air that we knew the furnace size was dangerous and a problem.
We called Mr. [redacted] who told us to call his sub contractor and we were told that they could alter the furnace to not blow so much heat so that it would work like a smaller furnace. Nothing was mentioned of us having asked for a furnace that size. There was no “I told you so “ at that point.
We called the furnace manufacturer and they were concerned about the furnace being over worked and they were concerned about altering the furnace so we contacted the sub contractor again and we didn’t hear back from him. We contacted the housing authority and tried to get things settled during the Spring and Summer before Winter came and we needed the furnace.
We were not as consistent as we should have been but there was also a change in personnel at the housing authority and we keep getting told different stories every time we called or now we get laughed at or ignored.
We have had three different HVAC companies in our home telling us that they would have never installed the furnace in the first place and that to alter the furnace would look suspicious if there was a carbon monoxide death from the furnace if the heat exchange would crack.  We have a one year old and three year old. We want them warm and safe.
After the third company told us about the furnace we tried calling Mr. [redacted] again because the subcontractor had been ignoring us all summer and we were getting nowhere with anyone else. He was able to get the subcontractor to get back to us and we were told “that he could eat the cost of labor, but not the cost of a new furnace.”
So we borrowed some money and sold the too large furnace and bought a new furnace for the second year in a row. We had to sell the first furnace to off set the cost and since there is a mortgage on our home for the work that was done, we didn’t really see a problem selling something that belonged to us.
We picked up the furnace ourselves because we wanted to know that it was actually going to be done and the subcontractor told us he would see us Monday (this was on a Friday).
We didn’t see or hear from the subcontractor until the following Monday (over a week later) when we received a text that simply read, “It will be $400 because you sold the old furnace.”
In the mean time, we had no heat because we assumed that our furnace was being installed over a week prior and had sold our other one and we have to use space heaters to heat our house.
Exchanging the first furnace was NEVER discussed as a trade for labor because we would have NEVER agreed to that. We have been trying to have them fix the problem of having a furnace that is too big from day one.
As soon as the furnace was turned on, it would bang from sucking in too much air and we asked them what the noise was and not once were we told that the furnace was too big or anything like that. We were told that it needed braced. So they braced it. And it still made noise. So they came back. And it still banged loud enough our kids were being woken up from their naps. Again, no one said anything about the size of the furnace to us. So we braced it ourselves to make it quieter because it sounded like someone was breaking in our house every time the furnace turned on.
We are used to doing projects ourselves and this was our first dealing with a contractor. We were maybe annoying with asking questions? Maybe. Did we want to know what was happening? Absolutely.  We weren’t telling them what to do. We were simply asking what was going on. We understood that they were supposed to be the professionals and we had them in our home on projects that we didn’t know how to do. We weren’t going to tell them how to do it. So to say that we were demanding things is not true.
We paid for and are still paying for a furnace that we now don’t even have in our home. And that if had stayed in our home running the way it was, it could have been dangerous. And if it had been altered, could have been even more dangerous. The heat exchanger could have cracked. The furnace wasn’t going to last its full life because it was over working and it was in a home that it shouldn’t have been in. And they knew that. We didn’t.
That is our issue. As far as any words that have been said, we do not want to “smear their name”. We want a warm house. We want what we paid for. We want to not have to pay for it again. And we want honesty. We have had phone calls saying that much. And I don’t know why it is so hard to finish a job. Especially when it is supposed to come with a warranty. We want this over.

Review: We used them & their sub contractors for several repairs around our home including a new furnace. The furnace we received was large enough for a home twice our size & even though it came with a warranty, they will not replace it or exchange it. We have been told by several other companies that it will cause damage & can will void our home insurance if there is an issue. After several weeks & arguments they finally said that they would install a new one for free but we would have to pay for the new furnace even though the last one was less than a year old & was under a warranty. We have had to purchase a new furnace & it has been sitting in our basement for over a week now & they are still not returning phone calls or texts to come install it even though we were told that they would.Today we finally got a text message saying that we would have to pay for the install since we sold our old furnace to cover the cost of the new furnace. (Because the first furnace that we paid for was somehow going to end up going on their truck at the end of the day.)We have been contacting them since Spring. It is now October. We have a 1 & 3 year old. It is just getting colder & they are blocking & ignoring our phone calls & voice mails & telling people we are lying. We are not. It is Fall about to be winter & they were fine with leaving a potentially deadly furnace in our house. When it was first installed it was banging from the furnace being too large so they braced it & said part of it could be turned off. But according to other professionals we have had in, that is illegal & would have voided our life insurance policies if there was a carbon monoxide issue. Our furnace was not safe the first day they installed it & they didn't tell us. Instead they told us we asked for one that size when we didn't because we don't know anything about HVAC. We mentioned having a cold bedroom upstairs & they added an extra duct. Problem solved. We didn't ask for a furnace larger than necessary for our house or that was unsafe.Desired Settlement: We have had to purchase two furnaces in two years now. We were told that we would be getting the second furnace installed for free & now they are asking for $400 to install it. We purchased the first furnace through a program through Beaver County where we received assistance & now we have had to pay for a second out of pocket & now we have to pay a second time for labor. So they ripped us off & the county by installing something unsafe & then wanted to walk off with it at the end of the day.

By contract from The Beaver County Housing Authority [redacted] and Son's Contracting was hired to do home repairs for Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] at 1146 Chestnut St. Monaca PA 15074. Repairs were to include: electrical, heating, cement work, door and windows and sump pump. Prior to signing contract Mr. [redacted] made phone inquiry to myself and at least one additional contractor that made a bid on the repair work. We were both grilled on what materials were to be used on his home repairs. After numerous phone conversations I was chosen to be the contractor for his

When the rehab began in July 2013 Mr. [redacted] and I discussed in detail all products to be used for the windows and door replacement.

This is a housing authority GRANT in which the homeowner is responsible for half of the monies to be paid to contractor. With this in mind homeowner still has say in what product is

[redacted] & Son's Contracting paid extra to provide the furnace that Mr. [redacted] demanded.

Upon completion of rehab, Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] and the Beaver County Housing Authority are required to sign the contract to confirm completion of all repairs.

In late summer of 2014 Mr. [redacted] called and told me that he was going to have A/C installed by another contractor and that contractor had told him that his furnace was too big. He then wants me to install a new furnace to the size I wanted to install originally at no cost to him. At that time I referred him to the HVAC contractors that originally installed unit. At which time the 150,000 Btu unit was to be exchanged for labor to install new furnace. Which I thought was more than fair.

Mr. [redacted] became furious and started to use foul language and s[redacted]d "I WILL SMEAR YOUR NAME!!" I responded, "I Do not have time for your threats" at which I hung up the phone. I have not spoken with him since nor have had ANY text conversations with Mr. [redacted] ever.

I have been in business for 30 years, I have a very good reputation in the county.

Why after a winter and cold spring season had passed Mr. [redacted] removed and sold a working furnace just in advance of the onset of winter is beyond me.

In conclusion Mr. [redacted] was given what he demanded, the rehab was inspected by the housing authority, signed off as complete by Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] and paid for by the Beaver County

Housing Authority.
