The Belt Tensioner on my 1999 Ford Windstar van Broke. There was previous damage done by the previous owner so I brought the Vehicle to Tatros. The BELT TENSIONER ON MY 1999 FORD WINDSTAR VAN BROKE I brought the van to Tatro's Mobile Mechanicin on 12/06/13 order for the repair to be made the mechanic had to move the POWER STEERING PUMP which was not leaking out of the way.The repair was made, and the power steering pump was reattached to the vehicle.I picked up the vehicle on 12/9/13 drove to work that evening when I made a turn and the vehicle was making a whining noise I stopped and checked the fluid in the power steering pump and it was almost empty. I Bought more fluid filled the pump and the whinning stopped. As I investigated further I discovered that one of the lines to the power pump was leaking which was not the case before the original repair was made.I called Tatros right away and was told to bring it in on 12/10/13. the mechanic looked at it and said that it was nothing that he did and all he did was move the power steering pump out of the way so he could remove the old Belt Tensioner. He stated that someone heated the line which caused the o ring to melt.Weather that is fact or fiction that line was not leaking when the vehicle was brought to Tatro,s.I have already paid $ 517.27 INVOICE # XXXXXX which I had to borrow for the original repair which was completed and is fine' I am only working part time and do not have the financial means to pay another $60.00 for a new line and another $150.00 in labor for a repair that was caused when that pump was moved. Desired SettlementI would like the line replaced at no cost to meBusiness Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted]Contact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXX[redacted] had his inoperable vehicle towed to Tatro's to have the serpentine belt tensioner changed on his 1999 Ford Windstar van. He informed the service manager that he attempted to repair the vehicle himself and that three other repair shops failed to repair the damage done. [redacted] stripped the retaining bolts for the tensioner and attempted to cut the bolts off using a four inch grinder. He also heated the power steering pump retaining bolts in order to gain access to the tensioner with the grinder. Upon removing the damaged bolts and tapping the damage threads, the belt tensioner and serpentine belt supplied by the customer was installed. When the vehicle was started, the leak at the power steering pump was detected. The customer declined to have the leaking hose replaced at that time. The hose was damaged by the MAPP gas torch the customer used to loosen the bolts on the power steering pump prior to having Tatro's perform the repairs on the serpentine belt tensioner. The customer's MAPP gas torch was still on the passenger seat of the vehicle. When questioned about the heat damage on the power steering pump, the customer admitted to using the MAPP gas torch on the power steering pump. Since the vehicle was not in operating condition at the time it was towed to Tatro's, the leaking line was not detected until the initial repairs was performed. The customer returned the next day to have the damaged power steering hose replaced. The customer is responsible for the damage done to his vehicle and the payments to Tatro's to have that damage repaired. Digital pictures of the damaged serpentine belt tensioner can be supplied upon request.Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)[redacted] damaged the power steering hose when he moved the pump out of the way to remove the belt tensioner on my vehicle I had the vehicle looked at and was told that the pump needed to be moved / removed to gain access to the tensioner I then brought the vehicle to tatros the PUMP AND I REPEAT THE PUMP WAS NOT LEAKING when I brought the vehicle to Tatro's for the repair to the tensioner.[redacted] accusations that I heated the Pump are the furthest thing from the truth. That vehicle is my livelyhood the vehicle was laid up for 19 days which cost me time from a job that I had just started and need the vehicle to get back and forth to my job and appointments for my [redacted].Please explain to me why the pump was NOT LEAKING WHEN I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO TATROS FOR REPAIRS AND IT WAS LEAKING WHEN I PICKED IT UP AND DRVE IT TO MY JOB. Final Business Response [redacted] has failed to respond to any attempts to contact him. He has stopped payment on his check for the part and labor to repair his leaking power steering hose. At this point, this matter is being turned over to collections, a mechanics lien will be placed on the vehicle and charges will be filed for theft of service and goods unless [redacted] makes good on the debt owed.[redacted],Tatro's Mobile Mechanics, Inc.
