Tax Prep-Tax Preparation Reviews (1)

For tax year 2014, Tax Prep, [redacted] prepared our joint tax return as he had several years prior. I was told that one hundred plus dollars was owed to MS or IRS. (You will understand after I am done why I can't remember exact figures, etc.) I was very rushed on this particular day, dashed in Post Office, purchased M/O and went just down the street to his office where he quickly went over basics regarding tax year and I handed him said M/O which was blank. I took it back off his desk and asked him who make it payable to and his response was, "just leave it blank, I'll fill it out." My husband made it home from work and asked where I put receipt and it then occurred to me I didn't get said receipt. I dropped by his office following day, told Mr. [redacted] I was there for M/O receipt. At that instant he shoved his desk chair against the wall and very rudely asked "why do you need a [redacted] receipt, this is insulting to me, I mean, I got your [redacted] taxes down for you, that's not enough?" I began to shake and huge tears welled up in my eyes and replied, "I gave you a blank M/O and why are you insulted that I would ask for a receipt?" He then placed a M/O on his copier and made a letter size copy of what I'm assuming was my M/O. He then threw said receipt toward me and it landed on the floor. I refused to pick it up and told him my husband would come at his next convenience to retrieve receipt.
To make a long story short, my husband became very ill shortly after this incident and has since passed away.
After many, many months of total shock, anger, and so many other emotions that have completely rearranged my life, I remembered I had to file taxes. So in my grief and for the sake of convenience I again went locally for my/our 2015 tax preparation. Mr. [redacted] was more than accommodating and the only issue was that for 21 days of that tax year, my husband had been employed in Canada. I was assured he could handle the situation and provided him with every document necessary as directed by him. Upon completion, I paid him fee he requested and was told to expect up to 6 months for Canadian return. That was on or before October 15, 2015.
He called me back into his office for my signature to letter he said Canada had requested stating that I was the sole heir and executor of my late husbands estate. I signed and was told it would be returned to them and to expect an additional month due to this delay. This date being sometime in November 2015.
I checked with Mr. [redacted] beginning of April 2016 for any updates from Canada and he very rudely stated he had already told me 6 months and it had not been that long.
In early May 2016 I received letter from Canadian Treasury which stated amount I would receive and stating check would be mailed shortly . A few weeks later another letter came with date refund was issued:April 29, 2016 and other pertinent information including a toll free number if I had any questions.
I called Mr. [redacted], he was very quick and unfriendly yet told me he would have to see the letters.
My father was and still is very ill and I found no free time to go to his office and decided to snapshot letters and send them in a text. I related to him that I was very confused in light of the fact letter stated issue date of my 5,000.00 plus return. I further explained sickness of my Dad.
About two weeks have passed so today I called his office and politely asked if he had a few minutes to which he said he did. I asked him did he receive my text, he said he did. At that point I informed him I had personally called toll free number provided on said letters and was told they had never received my husbands death certificate nor any document naming me executor. I asked Mr. [redacted] could he possibly call to help shed some light on situation. His reply was, " I don't know what you think I can do, if they said they don't have documents then I guess they don't, I'm not talking to you anymore, I don't have time for this crap."
I asked him why he was ALWAYS so cocky with me to which he replied: "I'm hanging up, I don't have time for this and I'm not talking with you anymore."
I told him to have my complete file ready for me to pick up in the morning.
I report these facts, and there are more, because I smelled a rat with the M/O.
I was in shock, grief, etc. after my husbands death and hesitantly used him again.
Since the letters from Canada I've spoken with others in our area who were told by him he could not help them with their Canadian taxes!
Other horror stories that I have no proof of but have no reason to doubt the credibility of said individuals.
I am a middle aged widow and firmly believe I have not and even believe he wasn't qualified to prepare my taxes yet took advantage of my state of mind.
I believe he is cheating lots of clients out of lots of money.
If you could help me any or advise me I would appreciate it.
I do not intend to stop here and have every intention of exposing him for the unethical, unprofessional and in my opinion and belief unlawful business dealings. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer.
