Two years ago, I received a notice from the IRS that I owed back taxes for a business that I had sold. While the issue was my fault (I forgot to notify a vendor about a change in EIN when we incorporated the business), the process of getting this straighted out was daunting.

First, the vendor had to change their records, as well as a bank. The changes had to be made for 2 years of records, which took some doing. Then new tax forms had to be issued by the bank for both years. That was a monumental undertaking, as this wasn't exactly on top of their list of priorities.
