Regarding complaint #[redacted], customer complaint of leaking roof & damage to interior ceiling. First of all customer contacted me in regards to a leak & stain on her ceiling. She had stated she contacted another roofing company which said they needed to tear off area install ice guard,...

valley & re-shingle for the amount of $1,600. I told her we had installed ice guard above & beyond code & manufacturers specifications. Customer did not believe me & wanted proof it was installed. I told her that the only way possible would be to tear off shingles in area at my cost of $1,000. She agreed to do this with her husband present so he may see it (also took pictures as proof of installation, enclosed). We then installed new ice guard which must be installed over existing because of nail holes, recut valley & then re-shingled. She paid $200 of the $1,000 then refused to pay anymore. This area also has a hidden room with a knee-wall that hampers the correct ventilation which is very important in ice dams!    
 This roof leaked one time in 6 years in the winter of 2014-15 due to an ice dam, never during heavy rains. 2014-15 was one of the worst winters we have had since 1979. I explain to her that the leak was caused by an ice dam.  
 I have met with owner of the home on several occasions to solve this problem. It was only after legal advice I received from my attorney that I no longer made contact with her after completion of redoing the area. The customer was very irate when trying to speak with her. She would not be reasonable & began making abusive remarks.
 I used [redacted]. products & it was installed beyond manufactures specifications, 12’ up from gutter past porch-main roof union & in valley (code is 2‘ beyond inner wall. I have contacted [redacted]. on this matter & they have said ice back dams are an act of God & they do not warrant against them.
 We have been in business for 37 years & are licensed in cities across northern Ohio. We do not subcontract our roofs all work is done by our trained employees. I personally inspect every aspect of the job. We have a 25year A+ rating with the Revdex.com.  
 This passed inspection by the City of [redacted] back in 2010 (I have enclosed original permit for this. I have contacted [redacted]s [redacted]. twice on this ice dam issue with the same answer it is an act of God & is not covered under warranty.
 My possible solution to the problem would be to forfeit the $800.00 owed to Kaminski Roofing for work completed and allow custom to use it toward ceiling repair.

Kaminski Roofing has already stated the job performed, recommendations to the consumer were provided prior to repair work and consumer declined (see proposal) and business has clarified the remaining warranty due to the consumer.
