Initial Business Response /* (1000, 11, 2015/09/24) */
I am a sole proprietor who established my own company just over a year ago and have more than a decade of experience in the landscaping industry
I was called to this property by another customer (this homeowner's son); I was asked to fix the
leak in the basementWhen I looked at her problem I told her my professional opinion and most cost effective option for her was to clean up the area and replace the old drainage, which was broken from years of use, and bury new drains directing water run-off into her yard & away from the houseThe existing drainage directed the water straight down to the foundation/basement window (where her basement flooded from)I was also very clear to explain to this homeowner that I would not be able to get started right away, as I was in the middle of other jobs, one being her son's landscapingAs I worked on the drainage the homeowner expressed her concern about the water run-off between her yard and her neighbor's; the neighbor also approached me with her similar concernsThe solution I presented to this was to build a dry well, a small rock filled ditch lined with plastic lining, along the side of the yard where the water was problematicI brought materials over to show the homeowner my intention, this job was not completed and no payments were made, due to the homeowner's requestI did work into the evening several days in hopes to satisfy this homeowner, I also included extra labor and minimal yard/home maintenance at no additional charge, which is part of my customer appreciation policyPart of the miscellaneous work I was asked to take care of was cleaning out the debris and trash under her porch, that is where these planters were locatedI made several attempts to return these items once notified, until I was threatened by the homeowner and harassed by her neighbor, (who claims my personal property belongs to this homeowner)This situation could have been solved months ago with simple communication, and is now a civil issue and has no relevance to the quality & efficiency of my work, or my personal integrityI have been in this business for over years and just started my own landscaping business a year ago; I am a sole proprietor and value each customer I work withI have been trusted in thousands of homes over the years and have never heard of a complaint about missing personal propertyThat is not the business I run
Also, I made sure to repair the yard that was damaged by my truck and trailerI was working late and the homeowner suggested I pull into the yard, I knew the opposite side of the yard was dry and failed to check the side I pulled onto and I dug a rutThat rut has been filled with dirt, graded, seeded & wateredGrass was starting to grow by the time I was done at this propertyAccording to the homeowner's son, the yard is full and that spot is unnoticeableThis was done at my expense, as to it was my doing therefore my responsibility to repairI take responsibility of my work and do my best to work to any extent for customer satisfaction, however, when the homeowner is not willing to discuss concerns with me reasonably, disrespects my all around character, sends other people to follow me home and tells me to leave her property permanently I no longer think it is necessary to go out of my way to appease such peopleHer basement has not flooded since I repaired and replaced the drainageHer son has made an effort to apologize on behalf of his mother and has expressed satisfaction and appreciation for the work I did do at her propertyThe local police have advised me not to act on this complaint, or return to the property and have also expressed an understanding of the less respectful manner of the resident homeownerI would like this long thought out response to be the last request of me to attempt to explain/defend myself and my business regarding this property and homeownerNo refund will be issued, the cost of the drainage to fix the flooding basement was agreed to be $1,500; as stated before, this job was completed to customer satisfactionThis complaint does not mention my work on her original request
Again, her basement no longer leaks, and the drainage I installed and completed works properly
Also, I will not purchase and install sod after I already repaired the damage I created to the yard
The civil matter regarding these planters will be solved in cooperation with the Glendale police and the officer aware of the situation, whom I reached out to in hopes to resolve this matter respectfully
