BathR renovation: Wall tile done sloppy, chipped tile, tile not straight, corners not straight, tile floor not sloped. overall job is a total mess.Hired Taylor's Construction Co.to completely renovate a small bathroom. We aggreed on price for labor and I was to purchase all the materials needed for the project. Work began 6/04. There was rotted wood and damage to subfloor and floor joyst that I agreed to pay additional to repair and purchase materiats. PROBLEMS: A-did not remove old backer boards on walls and wall with plumbing fixtures is not flush with original wall is is extend out 1" with not way to fix.B-Tile is shower stall is aweful. Some pieces stick out, pieces are cut crooked, the cornes are just a mess, the mosaic stip is wavy and not straight. The mosaic tile is chipped, the regular tile is chipped he said his saw was dull. C-the wall that he build in not straight. The whole shower is not square. The back wall to the showe is 46'(was suppose to be 48"0 and the shower opening is 46 and 1/2 inches and the glass door will not fit. D-the shower floor is level, it does not slop for proper drainage and he did not put the vinyl protective liner to pervent wood damage to subfloor-per building code. the shower threshold is only 1 and 3/4 inches, not high enough. There is more, but it is a mess.I mentioned my concerns about most of these items to the Mr [redacted] and his response was to wait for him to finish. I have paid him $2,100(over half of what we agreed) to date. I have purchased $1,283.03 in materials and it is July 17 and I can not use my bathroom. Mr [redacted] wants me to purchase new material and he will tear down one wall, cut out the bad tile and patch his mess that can't be fixed. I am not willing to purchase additional materials in the hope that he knows how to lay tile or build a wall. All the tile work is sloppy and messy. The structural work is just bad. I have since learned that there should have been a bulidng permit. Also the liner for the shower floor, these are thing that as as contractor Mr [redacted] should have known. I have several communication with Mr [redacted] and he has made so many excuse for the poor quality of his work. He said the house is old, the wall was leaning and things happen. I have almost $3,400 invested in this project. When I first spoke with Mr [redacted] he assured me that he could do the job that I wanted and do a wonderful job. His words were that I would be highly pleased. The quailty of his work in this my case is poor. I purchased prepaid cards at Lowes for him to get mateials and ask for all the receipts and did not get all of them. He had full access to my house and after four weeks he left me with a unfinished, unusuable, sloppy mess.I have communicated with Mr [redacted] on several occasions to reslove this. I explained to him that I am not willing or able to purchase additional material not do I think I should have to. I have over paid him for the work poor work that he had done. I have had someone that gave me an honest assessement and have been told that it will need to be torn down and redone. Especially with the shower floor not done properly and the wall dimension off. What is most disturbing is that Mr [redacted] did not seem to concened about the mess. He is only concerned about himself, telling me that he is going through stuff. I have paid this man my hard earned money, I trusted him to do what he said he could do he told me that "If I wanted a Hollywood job too bad" I just want my bathroom done right. Pictures availableDesired SettlementI am willing to pay Mr [redacted] for the following:Removal of old tub and tile.(He did not remove any of the old backer boards, one wall not removed and my neighbor removed the other two)Removal of old vinyl floor, tolet and cabinet.Repair to floor joyst and subfloor (partial) and wood damange in lower left corner of shower. Is stall shower control even thought it will need to be redone because wall has to be removed.Installed tile on bathroom floor (was not centered before laying)Covered popcorn ceiling (need resanding)I want a refund of all of the material that I purchased $1283.03. I want a full refund for all but 0f $1,400 for the labor. I want a total refund of $2,683.03.I am willing to pay Mr [redacted] $700 for the work that he did do which I think is correct,I think this is a generous solution.
