TC Metal Roofing Reviews (%countItem)

TC Metal Roofing has not completed our roofing project per the contract nor stood behind their workmanship as promised.
Contract was signed February 21, 2018 and to date, roof is not completed. There are crushed tiles on the roof from workers walking incorrectly on the metal tiles, large amounts of red caulk and expanding window foam to compensate for poor workmanship. Missing and damaged gutters and rain spouts that were removed to install roof and have not been replaced causing further damage to our newly painted house. Interior ceiling and insulation water damage from extensive leaks due to improper installation of sheathing at the time the tear off of the old roof was performed. Bare vents on roof that were supposed to be beaded to match roof. Punch list items that were confirmed by roof manufacturer are still not addressed. TC Metal Roofing is insisting the final third payment although the county has not fully approved the final inspection due to exceptions listed on the report. TC Metal Roofing claims to stand behind their workmanship but refuses to perform a high quality work for the cost of the metal roof, $40K. Manager has claimed that the damage can not be seen from the street so it is acceptable. Tile roof is supposed to be flush to the walls but the company refused to remove Fypon and used expanding window foam and red caulk to seal. Very unprofessional. Workers were unprofessional, spoking marijuana on our roof, which was brought to the superintendent's attention as well as the workers. Tile installation is crooked and unprofessional. Red coloring from the asphalted tile is dripping down our newly painted house. Buckling of metal on top of roof due to poor installation at flat areas.

Desired Outcome

We would like to have a reputable companies that do quality work to finish the roof, repair the interior and exterior damages and punch list items. The cost for completing the work to be deducted from the final third amount due on the contact.

To whom it may concern:

This job has been nothing short of a nightmare trying to work with these customers. We have done everything and more for these folks and nothing is good enough. From day one, the husband *** has been very hot and cold. They claim to have several leaks in their house from the tear off but upon my inspection the only leak I could identify was coming through an addition that they added onto their home. The leak was coming through the old soffit that was in place. I came out there on a Sunday and took care of it immediately. The installation of the new roof started and every single day the owner had a problem with what we were doing because he watched a *** video. I came out to talk to him because at the rate we were going the job was not getting done. He wasn't there initially so I spent some time on the roof checking things. When he showed up, he came racing through his neighborhood like a mad man and slammed his brakes right at his driveway. Confused, I asked what is going on and advised that he needed to calm down. He balled his fists towards me and cussed me pretty good. I sat there and listened then advised him that we can leave his property if he wants but if my guys were to stay there that he would need to calm down and leave the crew alone until the job was complete. He was advised that all our guys are in fact certified through the Manufacturer and very good at their jobs. He agreed that he would calm down and leave the crews to do their job. We still dealt with day to day issues but seemed to be able to overcome them for the short time period. This customer had two small flat roofs on their roof, and we used a TPO Membrane for this application. The customer threw a fit with the white color on their roof claiming that they do not want to see it on their roof if they're flying over with an airplane as it was not at all visible from the ground. I explained to them that we could glue down some decorative Metal to match the roof for it to blend in, but it would be an extra charge. They agreed to the charge at the time explaining they could not stand knowing there was any white to be seen up there. Upon completion of the roof, the husband ***, agreed everything is good and I thought we were on the right track minus some minor punch items I observed myself while walking the job. This application is called a stone coated metal tile. Sometimes the tiles get scratched in the installation process and need to be touched up with glue and granules provided by the manufacturer. Couple days later we get a call stating that the roof was unacceptable, and they have a 37-line item list they wanted fixed. At this point this job has already been prolonged and dragged on, I agreed to meet with them and go over the line items to try and salvage the relationship with them. I also found out that the customer had been calling the city and manufacturer trying to get them to side with them stating there were major concerns about the roof installation and that it was a very bad job. I decided to get a rep from the metal company out there for my inspection and to hopefully reassure the home owner that it was in fact done right. The rep, Derek C, got there and upon inspecting the roof he asked the husband "what is the problem?" I was expecting to see the worst out here based on the calls and emails that were sent to our corporate office. The husband started going into reasons why it's wrong and why it should be fixed. The rep basically told them. "Look folks I am sorry that you feel this way but the roof if great. Other than the minor punch items TJ has already made me aware of this roof is fantastic." He even added that he would like to have pictures of the roof to use as advertisement. The husband Pat told the rep "you don't know st get the F off my property", I apologized to Derek letting him know the project has been like this from day one. I decided to hire another company because my guys were just getting to uncomfortable with the hostile environment Pat created. They sent out two guys that are certified to install the product and I asked them to address the issues that the homeowner has and try your best to make them happy. We seemed to be moving into the right direction at that time. I agreed to put gutters on their home in the front to make up for some of the alleged damage they claimed was from us. This damage was a few stains on their ceiling that appeared to have been there long before we got there. Regardless, my goal was to make them happy and try to still walk away with a satisfied customer. The customer agreed to these terms on a phone call and we scheduled to have one of our project managers to meet him with the terms. We could not get ahold of Pat that day for the meeting. I let them know that I am very sorry that they were unhappy about the job, but I am going to have to move forward with an attorney as this did not seem to be getting resolved anytime soon. The building department has passed the final roof inspection and the roof manufacture has also provided a letter stating it is installed correctly. We currently have a lien on the property and are moving forward with suing the owners for nonpayment. I would like to add that we have given customers this address to drive by and have sold roofs because it looks so good. I am still surprised that they could be unhappy with such a great product and installation.

Customer Response • Feb 10, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
We are in total agreement that this roof project has been a nightmare. The response is indicative of the customer service we have experienced from the company since the first week when our roof began to leak when we were made to feel like we should be thankful for Mr. K to come out on a Sunday to stop the leaks, which were caused by the poor workmanship of TC Metal Roofing workers.

Prior to signing and on the day of the contract, Mr. Robert D, sales rep, did a walk through to inspect our interior for any prior water damage inside our house. I made it known to Mr. D that I commended this practice as it protects TC Metal Roofing and us in the long run. Mr. D did not find any prior water damage on our ceiling or floors to note on our contract. On the day of the leak, I sent actual videos and pictures (on record) to Mr. K and other representatives of TC Metal Roofing of the leaks and water damage that occurred within 24 hours, as some leaks did not appear until the next morning and were visible when we awoke. We have not had any further interior leaks since.

TC Metal Roofing promised us the day we signed the contract that we would have a beautiful Spanish metal tile roof installed by trained Gerard Roofing installers and the final result would look just like the brochure. They were fast to take our 1/3 deposit, but after the 3rd day of our contractual grace period, we started to get the feeling that they would have challenges due to the structure of our roof. We were told we would have white "TPO membrane" installed on the flat parts of the roof. This in no way was acceptable to us and this should have been addressed before the signing of the contract. Our worst nightmare was confirmed. We knew we were not dealing with an honest experienced roofing company as we were misled about getting a roof just like the brochure. I do not know of any Spanish tile roof that has visible white areas from an aerial view. This should have been addressed prior to signing of the contract so we knew what we were getting. At no time, either verbally or contractually, was I informed of any extra charges. The contract states that any extra charges or work must be in writing and signed by both parties. Yes, we were extremely upset at this point; first the leak, uneven seams, dismissal of our concerns and now a tile with white flat areas. One thing led to another.

Before signing the contract, we told Mr. D that we install lots of lights on the roof for Christmas. He ensured us at that time that the roof was sturdy and we could walk on the roof with no concerns. We were later advised after the contractual grace period that there is a certain way we must walk on the roof. TC Metal Roofer's highly trained workers did not take this pre-caution, as there are smashed new metal tiles everywhere on our roof. This may have been due to their marijuana smoking, which we reported on two occasions, or possibly retaliation. I have a text telling Mr. K that a supervisor has to be on site during the installation of the roof, but as usual our concern was not addressed.

Mr. K made it perfectly clear that he did not have time to deal with our complaints as he has other priorities and that he would pull his worker's off the job. This is just one ultimatum we received over the length of this project. We did not "overcome" anything. In order to make progress on our roof and avoid the workers being "pulled off the job" that day, we buckled and agreed that we would hold our complaints and address them all at once closer to the end of the project. We still have smashed tiles, un-beaded vents, bulking metal sheathing ("decorative metal"), red colored drips running down our newly painted house, missing rain spouts, leak damage, expanding foam over our FYPON, extensive amount of red caulk and a tile roof that looks nothing like the roof we thought we bought per the brochure, including the incorrect installation of the bird stop, crooked seams, uneven tile alignment. All of which were presented to TC Metal Roofing at the onset and they ignored.

I must stress emphatically that we did not contact*** or the City of Lake Mary Building Department to try to get them to "side" with us. We were desperately seeking help as our concerns expressed to TC Metal Roofing were falling on deaf ears.

To address our concerns, I tried on several occasions to contact*** to have a representative come to our house to inspect the workmanship of the roof but they never returned my phone calls. Nor did I leave any details so I am not sure what Mr. C was expecting as Mr. K indicates. Miraculously, at TC Metal Roofing request to meet, *** representative, Mr. C, was present to inspect the roof. *** had to have contacted TC Metal Roofing to inform them we had been trying to contact them to request an inspection. The inspection was much later in the progress than I would have hoped, as our concerns were irreversible by this time. The fact they ignored our calls was also a clear message that*** was not going to listen to our concerns and I made this known to Mr. C at the beginning of the meeting. Additionally, it is in***'s best interest not to jeopardize a buyer relationship by telling them that the seams are crooked and need to be re-installed properly with the proper tools. Although on their website, they train their workers to use the machine to bend the metal to get a clean straight seam. And on top of this, TC Metal Roofing has a video of Mr. K using the same machine at his facility to bend metal. So why was this not the case for our roof? For the record,***'s final report (on file) indicated that the roof is structural but there are punch list items that need to be addressed.

With regards to the City of Lake Mary, it was in our best interest that the Building Inspector was aware of our issues and concerns as the inspector does not go on the roof and TC Metal Roofing was not going to be forthright with what cannot been seen. The City of Lake Mary Building Department has not fully approved the roofing project. The permit is currently "approved with exceptions" and there are several punch list items that have not been addressed and are required for a final approval. Thank God we did go to the City of Lake Mary because we would be paying a lot of money for an unfinished roof. There advice to me was to go to the media. I did not think at that time that was the best plan of action but I am seeing their point now.

The two "certified guys" that Mr. K hired to appease us was an older gentleman and his young grandson. They worked a total of maybe 3 days with an overall total of 6 hours. They did not have the materials required to do the punch list items and what they did do, they used left over scrap material, expanding window foam and gobs of red caulk.

I am not aware of any agreement made over the phone or a meeting to discuss an agreement or the finalization of the roof. I received a text and email from Mr. K stating he had been trying to get a hold of my husband. I reiterated to him that he should be contacting me for any meetings regarding the roof. My husband does not make any decisions related to finalizing contractual agreements. Mr. K and his representatives have been advised of this on several occasions. His response to me was that we will have no further contact and I would be hearing from his attorney.

I have a neighbor that was present during the one incident described with my husband balling his fists and he advised me that my husband was angry but was not threatening or aggressive as claimed.

The extended length of the project was due to TC Metal Roofing having other roofing commitments. This led into the summer month vacations in addition to my husband having a medical emergency over a 6-week span where we could not have the disruption or the stress of the roof.

TC Metal Roofing has proceeded with collection by their attorney for the last third of the contracted amount but I have not received any notification of any legal action to date nor action on the lien put on our house illegally.

We have been back and forth with this rhetoric with TC Metal Roofing since the beginning and have not gotten any satisfaction. We are now left with an unfinished roof with sub-standard workmanship that is nothing like the selling brochure pictures. Looking back and reading Mr. K's response, TC Metal Roofing does not have nor had any intention of satisfying us as a customer or completing the roof to the Gerard Roofing standard shown in the brochure.

Subject: Re: Revdex.com Reminder Consumers Rebuttal

Hey***,

Their is no validity to the response they sent you. I was pretty detailed in my response to the original complaint. We are currently suing them for non payment and now possibly defamation of character. As you can see our reviews online do not match up to these allegations. City of Lake Mary also didn't tell them to go to the Media either. I do not feel it is necessary to keep going back and forth here. Would you like me to send you the Law suit that they will be served? Right now there is a Lien in place and a demand letter from our Attorney. We have tried many times to please these folks and it's impossible. I personally called the Manufacturing company to get someone out there to inspect the roof for their peace of mind and they still were not satisfied. At no time did I know that they had already been trying to do everything they could to prove we didn't install it properly.
